I am very surprised o.O;

I've decided that I'm going Puppetmaster if its like "Mimic", and Blue Mage if its not.

I've already planned out my Blue Mage lvling route XD

I just dont know man, Ima unlock all of them and test them out ; ; I gotta lvl Blu no matter what because it sounds like fun learning all those abilities.

Why that suprised? BLM can easily do 1k+ post 50, 1k needles will probably be 50+ to learn, high mp cost, long recast, not to mention it does less damage if there are more targets it hits.

Yeah, but it's 1000 guaranteed damage. Doesn't matter what your DEF or magical defence is, it's ALWAYS 1000 damage spread among nearby enemies.

Lots of mobs are resistant to some magic. That's 1000 guaranteed damage to all monster types. So unless SE makes HNM's more resistant to it, Blue Mage seem to be the single best HNM DD'er as long as there's no other mobs around.

Yes but it probably will cost 200-300mp and 5min recast >< lol

well, Blizzaga III costs 299 MP and doesn't do a guaranteed 1000 damage :P

Although the recast might be long. We'll only have to wait and see.

Yes, but its damage doesn't get divided amongst multiple enemies like 1k needles does. 2 enemies=500damage, 3 enemies=333damage, 4 enemies=250 damage. But like you said, we'll wait and see, if they get it, been reading some other forums, and they say if you slow down that video the needles are heading towards the BLU, not coming out of the BLU, but I haven't checked that yet.

last I checked Blizzaga III was divided among multiple enemies o.O;

Well, it doesn't divide it equally, but it decreases the damage XD

It can also do a lot more than 1k on its own, as well as when Magic Bursted. 300 does sound like a good balancing point, MP-wise for 1000 Needles, given what Blizzaga can do with 300 MP.

In exp parties, yes. It pretty much always does over 1k on its own non-MB'ed in a exp party.

I'm talking mainly in HNM/god situations though. A guaranteed 1k damage is pretty damn good against Kirin. Although the hate will be pretty insane.

Depends on the cooldown though. If its long, then BLM and SMN will still be in the lead damage-wise

Well, theres the Balancing point, I suppose. It's the HNM Gimmick ability, like Chi Blast. Ultimately not worthwhile in EXP.

Nope, no scrolls:
acquistion - only new spells if blue mage is main job
- to obtain new spell have to defeat monster that using that spell
- only able to learn spell only if within a certain level from the monster
- only learn spells from monsters that give xp
- no learning spell if dead
- can't learn every ability from monsters, but will have an inital amount with updates opening up more abilities

I foresee a problem with those that are going to lvl Blue mage right off the bat.. if I'm reading this right.. once you say hit lvl 40.. and want to learn "baleful gaze".. you're outside of the target mob's exp range.

It might be that to learn an ability you have to fight a "particular mob" say the Mist lizards in konschtat, as opposed to the ivory lizards ouside kazham. So those that lvl their Blue mages before much is known may miss out on getting some key spells they might want before they "level past that mob". I'll unlock all the adv. jobs, but don't plan on leveling it til after I'm done with my current goals. Those that know me, know how much I love blm. I've been on hold waiting for my LS static to catch up to me, and haven't leveled my black mage for over 2 mos. Now, with the news of job balancing, I'm going to jump back on it and try to get as far as I can before it becomes more difficult to get a pt. I personally don't think blm needs to be nerfed at all.. Low def, high mana cost, even though the output can be tremendous, a good blm knows that he/she can't unleash living hell without paying the price. This goes without mentioning the manaburn pt's/cannon that all the non-blm's gripe about... I hope their balancing of blm only occurs in a pt with multiple blm's... I'd hate to see them change my favorite job.

my next point:

let's list what we have thus far:

tank:
pld, ninja, war (only because it was the original tank, and in my opinion could be again)

healer:
whm, smn, rdm (in a pinch, rdm can be a main heal. though not recommended)

damage dealer:
war, mnk, thf, drg, sam, rng, drk, blm, bst

support:
rdm, brd, smn

so... looking at that, we don't need more dd's... We need, tanks and healers as far as I care... and another job to give refresh would be great.
Let us all remember that refresh.. against popular belief, is NOT a necessity.. does not create life or death situations in general playing situations. It only serves to speed things up, reduce rest time, etc.. any argument you may generate against this, think first how that can be combated with just stopping to drop a knee and regain mp the old fashioned way.

They've already said they're going to help whm become the main healer again..
They've already labeled both blue mage, and corsair, as support jobs.

so... my question is.. do we think corsair might fill the role like rdm, and add a different melee element to the fray, as they intended rdm to be ?
maybe corsair will be a luck driven, melee'ing refresher, enfeebler, enhancer?

and blue mage.. I don't think it will be like blm. I imagine it will create a class on it's own. I think SE has created a job that the players can't and won't alter from what SE intended. I think Blue Mage will be a melee'ing mage.

as for puppetmaster... I sincerely hope that it becomes the next "Tank".
I've seen far too many poor tanks rise in lvls only because they are such a necessity, and uncommon seeker.. like so many dd's are. It would be interesting to see the puppetmaster be an "all in one" job.. change pets in the Mog house, and make it a tank, dd, or even a support or healer toy..

who knows, maybe that's what the NPC's were.. an introduction to that frame of thinking.. we have what, 6 jobs on npc's ?

maybe a parallel concept.. all any of us can do is sit and wait.. won't be too long now.

hope you enjoyed my long thread, have a nice day.

In theory, giving Paladins auto-Refresh would help an awful lot in that regard. 1 mp/tick isn't huge, but it does help significantly, and would make the PLD BRD pairing a lot more appealing for people.

That's the beauty of FFXI though, there's almost always a mob that will con ep to u at 75 of any family type, along with lvl capped areas/bcnms, sure there may be some abilities you can permanently miss, but I can say that someone will have navigated the ToAU .dat files, find out which spells BLU will be able to learn, and make a guide for it, within a week if not less.
I doubt it'll be specific mobs in different areas for different spells, such as your lizard comparison, both would be able to give you baleful gaze I'd bet, and any other lizard in the game, you just need to be within it's lvl range. Lizards in kuftal/capeterrigan/ifrit's cauldron/attohwa, along with 1's in pso'xja(but not sure if they baleful gaze) would be EP+ at 75.

Auto-Refresh is in discussion as a future job-trait of PLD. The interviews told about on Alla gave all the job changes they're considering. I like the PLD SAM and THF ones a lot.

Just playing devil's advocate Tiael.
I plan on toying with blue mage.. and maybe puppetmaster later on. ( no pun intended ), but right now I've got too much to do as is.....

goals:
-getting BACK on my fav job, blm and leaving my old static behind... (can't wait any longer @62)
-lvl'ing nin to 37 for rdm sub. (currently 32)
-static'd rdm with my brother, Tarn. (currently 56)
-capping whm at 68 with skills to do my maat fight... (67)

Like I said before, I'll unlock the new jobs with my LS, and as I love a challenge as much as another, I'll wait til there's a good set of experienced players, and knowledge out there before I launch any "new jobs" on the exp grinstone.... too many active jobs on my plate now... I've still got my second favorite job, drg on hold until I get blm to 75.... /sigh
