QCDN catoring to Gil Sellers?

Sorry if this is alittle late but "Search" does not always work.

No it doesn't ALWAYS work the way you want it to.
Neither does Google, which is worth how many hundreds of millions of dollars.

If it's worth having a sticky, then there will be a sticky. If it's long gone and hard to find in search, why do we need to necro it when there's a sticky that mentions necroing is bad?

Sounds like we have a volunteer fr Sculli's latest project.
Here's some of the ideas:

"I am looking for volunteers to create the following tutorials for QCDN use:

- how to join a public group
- how to upload your avatar
- how to edit your signature (show vBulletin functionality, not how to make a sig)
- how to add a user to your ignore list
- how to change the thread cut off age temporarily and permanently
- how to subscribe to a thread, including explanation of the different notifications
- how to subscribe to a forum
- how to add an event to the calendar"


I already covered one, so pony up a contribution. :nyam:


Sorry if that's smart assed...My point is, that improvements are coming. Necessary ones any way. Go to this thread and input your suggestion for a search guide.

Because i already did that, and not shit came up. If you would read my posts as you obviously arent, you would know that. If you do a forum wide search with sellers (since gil and ads are taken out of the search) you get 11 pages, if you do a search of general forums you get 5 pages. And of the first 2 on both searches not one of the posts was about the ads. So just for you all say it one more time. Please, do a search with any search tools or whatever you use to make all the topics on gil selling ads come up on the first page of the search, and then explain how you did so. I bolded and made the font bigger so hopefully youll read that.





On a diffrent subject though, i want to remind you of this.

See there, it says QCDN mod. As a mod shouldn't you be helping people and being friendly rather than ripping on them, calling them a "noob" and not doing anything to help. Just thought id add that.

The vBulletin integrated search isn't the greatest I will be the first to admit that, which is why I added the Google search, but Google didn't search index the QCDN pages yet.

However, I think the main point of contention is that the one camp says "put in some effort to find the answer to your question", while the other camp says "why should I, I rather ask the question and have someone else put in effort to answer it". To each their own, the second camp creates more work for me as I feel obligated to answer questions that pertain to QCDN operations.

Re: How to search:

Here you see a screenshot on how to search for something I may have said about gil seller ads in General Discussion.

The results of that search are shown below:

Since you are looking for something I wrote, your reference points would be threads that I started. The results show three possible results. From experience I know that the middle one is not the one you are looking for, so at the worst you would have to look through three threads, of which two would contain the answer you are looking for, or a reference to it anyway.

Something else interesting, the keywords actually used for the search were gil seller ad, but only seller was used to search. That is because search terms of 3 or less characters are ignored.

I'm well aware of that. Sculli and I have discussed.

And as "people" *cough XYZnotnecessarilycallingyouanewb* such as yourself, who have been around here for a matter of hours, and are clueless as to my good spirit, come in and get smart ass, I just call it like it is.

Ultimately I have told Sculli that I may voluntarily resign from Mod duties, as it would be worth it for me to speak my mind and not be held accountable to upholding a certain image, which is really just your expectation...That a Mod will never put you in your place. I'm not here to cater to BS. I am here to participate in discussions. The opportunity to Mod one forum came up, and it doesn't call for much effort on my part. I haven't changed since I got here, and won't. If I want to tell a smart-ass, off-base 16 year old something, I will...If that doesn't mix well with being a Mod, that's fine. I'm a Mod, and I Mod my forum, but I am here to participate, agree and disagree with things firstly and above anything else. I have helped plenty of people on this board in some fashion or another, and it's not worth it to me to be held to the status of almighty Mod ( lol ), if I have to sacrifice calling a situation the way I see it.

Not quite yet lol. What im talking about isn't how to search, or even how to search correctly (even though i said that in one of my posts). My point is that search doesnt work for ever subject. Yes you can narrow it down to one post if you know what your searching for (ie. author for of thread, thread title, which forum its in ect) but if you don't know who the author was and/or where it was posted your not gonna have a 10 topic search result its gonna be multiple pages.

So i apperciate the diagram but it really has nothing to do with what im talking about and i still would like Sneaky to show me how search will find all the topics on gil selling ads.
