Didn't know you were an admin of Shinra, Makelith :p

how many rule changes will qcdn go through? or seems that myrid is implying you copy and pasted this from somewhere.

either way, keep making rules, its a great use of your time.

The rules posted are the same one's Miros posted on behalf of Reeve with a couple of additions and added examples. Reeve's rules had been in M&G for ages.

I like the old version better.

He also took out the part about how they aren't rules, but guidelines.

It went from loose "guidelines" to "just because something is not on the list doesn't mean that it is acceptable or unpunishable".

I believe it was your most recent SAF thread (rather some of the responses in it) that lead staff to feel some of the rules/guidelines need to be clarified. People were saying that it wasn't okay to punish people for something that isn't specifically outlined in the rules and requesting more organized and consistant guidelines.

I don't know. I did mostly copypaste the original rules that Reeve had.

It is an awesome use of my time, to have to make rules that i shouldn't have to make rules about.

They are still loose guidelines, there are just more of them. As it said in there, i'm not interested in banning you because you slipped up once, but i'm not going to allow repeat offenders, that can't get it through their heads, to continue their antics. Besides the only rules we really added were abusing the report post function, griefing the staff, posting for banned members, and allowing them on your account. We have punished for it before and people whined that it wasn't in the rules. Now it is.

I don't know why we need to post new rules and such. Why do people find it so hard to not be morons on a forum. Common Sense really is a super power, I guess.

Probably for the exact same reasons as to why people find it so hard not to be morons in the real world. We as a species are really quite selfish and idiotic, which is why we need rules. Clearly stated rules for those of us who struggle a bit with simple things.

Anyone who's ever worked in retail, as a waiter, with the general public, knows how moronic people can be.

im just waiting on the "post per day limit" rule.

Yep. That'd be a really productive rule to add. It would totally make sense.

Griefing the Staff
There are certain ways to bring things to the staff's attention. The Support and Feedback section or PMing a global mod or admin is the correct course of action. We aren't the Nazis, the Gestapo, or any other villainous organization out to get you.
Including but not limited to: Posting in a Meet & Greet thread about a staff decision you disagreed with, putting "Mods are fags" in your signature, repeated posting of material you know will be edited/deleted in an effort to create more work for the staff

this is a better rule.

Real Life Comments
Not allowed. This is a game, and should be treated as such. Keep it light, so that everyone has more fun.
Including but not limited to: telling someone to die in a fire or that they should kill their self, insulting someone's weight, sexual orientation, religion, race, etc.

So wait this forum is a game?

No Hacking
Our server has nothing of value or even interest for that matter unless you're into Bea Arthur pictures. If we catch you trying to hack into the server, the forum or into a users account, banning will be the least of your worries.

really?

Thats one of the new ones.

I'm pretty sure anyone and everyone knows that FFXI is the game. If this is your gripe with the rules, i'll happily reconfirm everyones thoughts that you are just going to complain to complain.

Copypasted from the original rules. Nice to know you are so upset about them ~2 years after they are made.

If the only discussion this thread is going to get is people nitpicking words, i'll just lock it.

do whatever you want, its "your" board.

ive been a member here for a very long time and ive seen a lot of "administrations" come and go, and this is the first time i really kinda question why you keep updating and adding more and more rules.

now i know that things need to be dynamic and evolve with the culture, or in this case, what people are doing or what rules they are breaking, but when is it going to end? i personally agree with most of these rules, its just the sheer fact that every few months a new admin comes along, it seems, and adds their piece to the pie, and although ive respected most of them up until now(minus reeve, sorry buddy i dont even know who you are), its just beyond me why you would need to point out that hacking/trying to hack the board/member is punishable by a ban. for realsies? people dont know this?

thats how i feel, no nitpicking words. lock it if you must.

Every few months a new admin comes along? I think that's being greatly over-exaggerated. I've been on staff almost a year now, and that whole time Miros and arc were the admins.

As i said before, i just copied and pasted the rules Reeve had up before, that have been up since he took over, and added to them. No hacking shouldn't need to be said, i agree with that, but i figured why not. It was in the rules before now, it may as well stay. All of the rules that got added shouldn't have to be made, but people wanted them, so people got them.

you do realize that by adding more and more rules people will try to figure a way around them and you will only have to keep adding new ones.

Personally, I don't see any issue at all with the "rules". I simply find it sad that so many things, actually, need to be spelled out.

The very first thing ANYONE here needs to do is ask themselves,"Am I, personally, paying for this forum?" If you are NOT the one paying for the bandwidth and space......put a lid on it. I do not see a donate button here, I do not see a buttload of ads here.(for which, I am truly grateful)

To be honest, this is the first time I have even ever read the rules. For me, it's a simple thing called common sense, and courtesy. I guess, however, too many of the children here haven't yet been taught by mommy and daddy how to behave in society.
