You should make a new sticky stating the amazon link so people understand and be an obvious reminder. Quite a few people don't even think about it.
Hmm, I just don't want to come across as too whining about it.
Yes, if someone does do Amazon shopping, it would be great if they could do it through QCDN, but I don't want to annoy the crap out of people by reminding them of the ads either. ;)

Just make a sticky like:

"Don't forget to help out the site's expenses, click the amazon banner when buying your holiday gifts."

People just don't remember or realize they could easily contribute by clicking the banner.

No one will care, if they do, just permaban them since they won't give you jack anyways :p

I'm beginning to contemplate posting here anymore.

Those ads are automaticly generated by choosing what type of message board this is. I have the same crap on my LS board. You should by no means stop coming here for something as petty as that. If you didnt want to see the ad you could always donate money if it offends you so much. Not to sound harsh in anyway.....i'm just sure that the admin here hate having that crap on there as much as the next person.

Oh, and to stay on topic......I usually buy books and videos online.....and not very often either. ^^

I agree, i'm a member of a local music message board, looks like this one aswell lol. There are ads but I don't see them with popup blocker, what the owner does for that site (as he is a student) is sets up a paypal account and once a year or so asks for donations, the site has less members than here and he still manages to pull in quite a lot of money. Put the amazon link up, but make sure you do an amazon.co.uk link, so that us brits can help out :P

Just an update:
The Google banners now show a "Advertise on this site" option. So if you run a web site that could benefit from the exposure on QCDN, or you know anyone who does, please do let them know about it.

I know I could just negotiate directly with whomever wants to show something at QCDN, but I currently have no way to track impressions and click-throughs or effectivly process payments, so the extra step through Google is worth whatever it is they will charge for the time being.

Edit: Somewhat related, I did get a few emails about advertisers denying affiliation, mostly based on the fact that the Flameboard provides content that is likely to "offend the intended target audience [of the advertiser]" (meaning the audience they want to show their ads to is not likely going to use QCDN because they would be offended by the Flameboard). I thought that was rather amusing ...

Almost makes me want to create detailed demographics for Flameboard users.

I was wondering, how do you make donations since the change to vBulletin. I rember the old QCDN had a donation button but this one does not.

I am not currently accepting donations.
Heh, I know, it's like "WTF, you don't want free money?!?". I do appreciate the willingness to donate, but right now things are just too unorganized for that. I would like to reward those who donate with something, and I am still looking into what that something could be.

I will change the ad placements and just in general do more work on getting better quality ads to the site within the next few weeks, with a major push between Christmas and New Years, and then there will be a way to donate to QCDN.

Free AdSense Keywords Video Shows How I Make $11K / Mo. With AdSense

Just saw this add at the top of the page, and found a little irony in it.

If it were only true ...
Now I am not saying that this guy didn't do it, but the time for it was last year in June or so, since then he's been selling his knowledge and has probably made more money with it than AdSense ever did for him.
More power to him too, unfortunately his advice isn't very applicable to QCDN.

You could add in keywords dealing with the PS2, 360, PC as these are versions of the game and relate to the site, this would open a few more types of ads...

The meta keywords are largely irrelevant when it comes to adsense, they take the keywords from the page the ad is being displayed on.

Please forgive me, I am coming in late to this discussion. Couple of questions:

1) If I click the Amazon ad, do you only get money if I buy something? Do you get something if you only refer me? If I need to buy something, is it a flat fee you get, or is it a %-age?

2) If you get money for click-thru's, I'd be happy to do so, if I knew what links to click.

Lastly, thank you so much for all you do to keep this community running. Your efforts make Quetzy a better place to be, and you have my most heartfelt appreciation.

I removed the Amazon ad as it just didn't look right.
I will add it again once I figure out where a good place to put it is.
The only ads that pay for a click are the Google AdSense ones.

Amazon has a couple different payment schemes, haven't really looked into it all that much.

Again, while I do appreciate that you guys are willing to support QCDN through the ads, please do keep in mind that Google knows which ads you click, what you had for breakfast, and where your children play.

Please do not click an ad if you are not interested in the content it leads to, as this can result in Google dropping QCDN from their program for "fake" clicks.

I have currently 48 gil seller domains listed, and it looks like there are no more gil seller ads coming up. I will obivously keep an eye on it, but I think it's mainly done.

Thanks to everyone who send me PMs with gil domains they had seen in ads. Much appreciated.

How did you get emails from advertisers saying they didn't want on your site? Did they actually take the time to read through the flameboards? I figured their ads popped up on so many sites that they couldn't check them all.
