QCDN's future without a Flameboard

If prehaps there were regulations on what type of content could be posted, then it may ease things up.

Such things like:

Person stealing an account
Harassing Players
Sexual Harassment
Thieves
etc.

Should all be reported on the flameboard, just to warn fellow players.

Things like:

So and so is a fag.
OMFG this guy keeps stealing my mobs
Inflation
etc.

Are not vital to know or can easily be avoided by changing areas or moving to a different camp. As for inflation, screaming about it wont help.

This is a great idea, and I'm not just saying that because I posted it about 5 pages earlier. >.>

I met Shuhya because of relationship similarities we shared and we learned of eachother via QCDN.

she's great isnt she. i meet her when she was a 25 pld. gave her a few tips in party and we've been buddies ever since.

With regard to the discussion of limiting the flameboard to some small number of limited offenses, I'd recommend renaming it too. I don't have a name in mind, but flameboard definitely seems like a place for flames, not reporting things that this community takes seriously.

Maybe "Neighborhood Watch?"

I think that conveys the sense of keeping people accountable without wanting a mudslinging contest.

A rose by any other name, would still smell as sweet.

Or I guess rather in this case a steaming pile of racid feces could be called Super fun happy squishy dough.... Still won't change the fact that it smells like shit. XD Changing the name of it won't change what its there for...

However that being said, I personally don't see a problem with the flameboard. The flameboard was the reason I first ever visited QCDN. And it is still the first forum I visit when I come here. For me it is pure entertainment. Its like my own little Web Soap Opera. XD I was actually shocked by the amount of ppl in this thread that seem to not like the flameboard. I think people take stuff on there and in the game way too seriously sometimes. Just relax and have fun with the game and the flameboard I say, but then again what do I know. I'm just a gimp :D

(I didn't read all the posts so if this has been said.. Sorry D:)

Eh, eh?

Is there a point to that post Westyle? I find that atleast the Off Topic and Reality forums the furthest from the flameboard.

Not that i expect anyone to take my opinion on the matter too seriously but i'm with the crowd that's for more rule enforcement. Personally i know there's been more than a few times i should have caught some kind of moderator reaction at one time or another and as of yet i've only recieved one PM from the administration regarding the animated icon thingers. I mention this not to slam the moderators/admin but the fact of the matter is people can't always be trusted to use the board responsibly or even for it's intents more often than not and such actions rarely recieve the attention they deserve. (This is only a personal observation kinda thing, it's not like i'm saying you guys don't do anything. But in my case i know for a fact i wouldn't put up with some of my own shit around here and it went unchallenged, i can only assume i'm not alone.)

I'm also of the opinion that the FB should go game content onry. If you just want to kinda whine about something in general be it religion, politics, what some douche did to you on the busride to work today there's no need for everyone to get pissy about it, that stuff can just as easily hit off-topic or reality sinks in where there's not such a hostile environment by association. The FB invites some people to take a generally assholish attitude to whatever gets posted there regardless of wether a constructive post can be made or not simply because "it's the flameboard, take you knocks or GTFO".

As hypocritcal as this all might sound coming from me the board as a whole needs tighter reigns and the FB and many posters in it without any association to any issue in game need to be curbed for a minute until things get back to some kind of norm.

Granted the administration should not be held liable for people who can't keep from posting for whatever reasons but the fact of the matter is the FB makes up a large portion of the readers and there is a guilt by association for things getting out of hand without or with limited reprecussions.

As far as the rest of the boards go i think the reasons they're passed over or neglected is that the most of playing community on the boards aren't here to proactively do something for the community just read and move on. Which is all fine and well but some more folks could shore up a little more initiative and manage not only to get some respect for doing so (i'd imagine) but help to detract from what is obviously the most negative place on the boards and put more of a positive spotlight on not only QCDN, but the server, and FFXI as a whole. In short i think the FB is what it is because it takes the least effort on the part of those who come to QCDN in the way of participation, which is kinda sad.

Edit: And yes, for those of you who give a crap this is a somewhat public "i'm tired of looking like an asshole on the internet for no particular reason, i give up on it." post. I'm attempting to holster the E-penis, if i stray run me off on a rail :P

I'm somewhat surprised noone posted this yet...

1. Delete flameboard.
2. Upgrade and enforce the rules on general discussion to include no flames what-so-ever.
3. Turn the flameboard mods into general discussion mods (or just add a couple). This should take stress off both the FB mods and the GD mods.
4. Delete any flames or negative replies.

The flameboard is not needed. People go there to post about an annoyance or just something to they wanted to get off their chest and wind up more annoyed/ more pissed. No flames ever accomplish anything good. If someone wants to rant about something, they can go somewhere else just as easy.

Why in god's name would you delete the flameboard? Then you have to moderate other stuff to no end! Probably even the AH(as a flame on one post there was taken to fb for some reason).

Clearly people like the flameboard if more people are viewing it and posting on it. If you delete the flameboard a lot of those people will probably stop looking at the rest of QCDN. Sure there a bunch of shit on there, but if its boring or stupid thread dont bother opening it. I personally like it there- you dont have to worry about what you type.

I really don't see why, at page 15, some people still are posting that the flameboards acts like a pen that keeps flames where they belong. It so blatantly fails at that "pro." Fact of the matter is that almost no one takes their flames to the flameboard if they feel the urge to flame a comment made elsewhere. They just start it wherever they find the problem.

The idea that the flameboard is a pressure valve or a pigpen is absurd. It keeps nothing in and spills its trash out into the other boards via exacerbating personal vendettas. The flameboard doesn't stop flames from happening in any other board. That's not flawed logic. That's straight naivety and adolescent thought, and it is annoying to say the VERY least that it keeps getting brought up.

On most quality forums, there is a no-flaming policy, at all. Nowhere. The flameboard mentality should not be encouraged anywhere. To cater to it is to attract the types of posters who come here for that. Eventually that type of player will start affecting every other board by association at best and actual mentality at worst.

Aside from the bolded portion - which would have been better left off -.-, I agree with this statement.

because pretending it doesnt exist has always worked for everything.

Bords with no-flame policies arent based around interaction between the members outside the realm of the fourm.

Hey Sculli, if you take out the flameboard, then i think the moderators and yourself would have to go into overtime, when it comes to editing and locking threads.

Just because someone regulats thier visits to QCDN dosn't mean they are not suited to join an end game LS. Yes there are people who point fingers at others, and that is how they make themselves out to be.

I myself is in a endgame LS with leader status, and i seen new people join our LS that got struck down here and i let them show me and my LS that they are ok. And they have. My advise to those who do not examine an individual for themselves, Is to examine the individual for themselves. Of coarse if that person is a regular flame thread maker, that is understandable. That only serves even the endgamers.

The most popular LS's have been smacked by those who find it trendy to hate on a group of endgamers. In this day and age to have you're LS bashed is a bloody complement.

All and all Sculli, removing the flameboard from here would be like removing the sewage system from a city. You can't please everyone. And if they do not want to take part or enjoy the many other areas of QCDN, then they only are out for marking people who come here. Which isn't such a great deal for us and them.

Other than that, there are many endgamers that come here. Who's gonna look down at someone for being a QCDN member ? QCDN allows the community to be heard, 100 times better than the actual game itself. (Unless the entire server was there during you're magical moment).

Removing the flamebord would be taking down a rule i think is very respected as the greater percentage of filth stays out of the way for those who seek clean reading. Without the flameboard people will flame one another regardless, thus making QCDN real grimy.

Mentioning that the flameboard has a real use between people who actually do interact is nothing but a trick to try to save what makes qcdn a joke to players. So you mention a person with a scorpion claw for 4 million gil in their bazaar on the FB. What good does that do? Do we all have a notepad by the PC to write down all these little tips? "Ohh XbobX=scorpion scammer. Thanks!"

What benefit is that really? Honestly. Effectively. Shall we rename it "Tattleboard?" Reading "u stole my sniper rings" and "I saw him scamming in bazaar!" gets old fast. The people who argue that that's what the flameboard is good for COUNT on it getting old fast so they can go right back to drama spamming and contentless fodder that gets hits--even if just their own.

No, the only reason this defunct and insignificant point gets brought up is to try to find some shred of benefit of the flameboard to try to spare it from the axe now just to pick up right where you left off next month when people stop paying attention. A tattleboard would die unbelievably fast, because no one really cares about bazaars and who stole my sniper rings. People would abuse it and keep right on flaming. Mandating that the flameboard is only for reporting of poor play is nothing but whitewashing dog puke. It won't last long.

The moderators are QCDNs sewage system. The flameboard is raw sewage in the street. Big honkin difference.

If you don't like the flameboard, you're perfectly welcome to stay off it; no one's forcing you to read the threads or post. You go on and on about how much you hate qcdn, but you can't stay off it. You have one of the highest post counts, because you spam the flameboard whenever you want attention and everyone starts arguing with you.

Your whole example and reason that the flameboard is useless is pointless flames that no one cares about. That's the kid of thing that would be filtered out with increased moderation, if the mods started doing that. Drop the small or meaningless flames and leave the ones with actual substance to them and the quality of the flameboard would improve.

Marajade has a good point though, the vast majority of the message boards with no-flaming rules are the only method of interaction between the people on the boards.

I can't stay off the flameboard even if I never go there. That's the point. It literally took me months to migrate to the flameboard after people started brawling elsewhere because they just couldn't help themselves. Every board is a flameboard no matter what I do. Everywhere I go, people can't control themselves. Look at this thread. How many flames that are right out there in the open? How many people just looking for a fight and can't stop posting? That's why I hate QCDN. People can't put the flaming down. They lack control to be a flamer somewhere and not elsewhere. So I say take that PRIVILEGE away if they can't handle it. Make it easy on them. They either can flame everywhere or not flame at all since they can't grasp flaming somewhere and not others.

You think theres too much drama in the flame board.. you should take a look at this thread.

Nah, this is tame.

>> Peregrine.
If you seem to have a problem with the flames following you, maybe that should indicate that the problem is not the boards.
