In my leveling adventure Wednesday, my Dispel got resisted. I didn’t even know that was possible. The monster was an Antican Princeps (Level 52-59). Does anyone know if Dispel is INT or MND based? Or anything I may be able to get it to work.

It shows up under Black Mage (Dark).

Thanks

If it is a DRK based spell., or if it is listed as black magic themn it is int based.

Dispel is Enfeebling Skill / Dark Elemental based spell and it can be resisted, it just does not happen too often. Anticans has insane dark resistance, so that is probably why you got resisted.

I can hardly remember Dispel being resisted, It's something so rare, i'm not even sure if my dispel really was resisted. Although this subject rings a bell.

Black magic is INT and White Magic is MND.

i had antica resisting dispel quite often also... they have enormous dark resist.

Yep, what everyone said, Dark/INT based spell. I've never had it resisted in normal XP situations, but against other special mobs it has (examples are the Weapons we fought for DRK AF2, those sumbitches resisted like 3 in a row before I gave up O.O). My INT is boosted up a good deal, and I don't notice much lacking with what I currently have. I use RSE gloves and boots, 2 Morion earrings, RK Belt, Red Cape +1, Tactician Magician Coat +1, Magic Cuisses, and alternate between Rose Wand +1 and Crimson Blade, depending on what we're fighting (ants it was wand all the way, lol).

You may also want to try getting your Dark Magic skill up- I know Dispel is technically and enfeeble, but it certainly can't hurt. If you have BLM sub, you'll get Aspir at 50 RDM, and that's awesome for skillups. One aspir per fight only costs 10 MP, and generally nets me a few extra MP to play with (on most mobs we'd been fighting at least- but you can still get skillups even if you don't get MP). I've levelled my Dark skill over 30 points since I hit 50, lol.

Pascal, those f'ers resisted my dispel a few times too on Wednesday, but when I recast it on them seconds later - it took. /shrug My RDM is a 49 and my BLM is a 40...so my enfeebs and drk magic are pretty high, and it still resisted on occassion...until I tried it again. <3

The word resisted is just crushing to an RDMs ego.

The phrase that crushes me is "can you main heal?" >< I have never leveled a WHM because I hate main healing...yet for some reason people continue to go "Ohhh - a RDM/BLM - let's grab that healer!!!!"

jender the funny thing is on the alla forums there are a lot of red mages there that are posting in a thread about how a rdm/blm team can replace a whm as main healer at higher levels and how whm at higher levels pretty much becomes unnessicery.

im glad to see that this is not a contagious thing.

A RDM/WHM RDM/BLM team is a better choose, but in my opinion it is still not as effective as a WHM at the same level. Also I do not know any RDMs that actually enjoy being main healer; it’s just a necessary evil of our job. We where built more for being a backup healer than a main healer.

And this right here is why I do not read the Alla Forums... Wow... that actualy makes my brain hurt, what about Protectra 4, Regen III, and Cure IV and Cure V? As a WHM I can honestly say MP is not an issue for me, and I sure as hell not want a RDM/BLM spending all his time healing with Cure IIIs and hasting, dispeling, refreshing, and the invaluable debuffs they do. Not to mention monitoring the skillchain for their MBs. (RDMs don't havev the huge impressive MBs a BLM has but they are very valuable none the less.)They already have enough to juggle. Or do they mean a second RDM/BLM could cover as an all out healer, even then that is like making the SMN a main healeer, a vaiable alternative, especialy with ninja tanks, but in the end a WHM would just be that much more eficent.

How would you like to see this:

"Falseprophet casts Blizzard II"
"The Evil Eye resists Blizzard II"

You think resistance of Dispel is bad, try Blizzard II! :x :x :x

 :|

On that Antican Princeps my Stone II at least did 6 points of damage.

Typically it’s one RDM acting as main, the other acting as backup, and they divide up all the other responsibilities. But I have been in parties where I was the only mage and they expected me to replace all three jobs. :|

My very first static was a RDM/BLM, RDM/WHM setup. It does require the two to work very well together, so they are not stepping on one another. I miss that static.

I was a RDM in a pt of 5 melee... a pld, 2 drks, and they all wanted to be refreshed too >_<... I was out of mp like every fight cause I had to sub WHM in order to heal them from the fly AOE they were pulling more efficiently... worst PT ever.

I'd have to say the greatest pt I was in as RDM was that double RDM with Reality, (how could i forget the NIN's name, he rocked...), Bigboy, and a RNG + THF... He was the first RDM that ever beat me to insta-dispelling almost every time! O_o /bow.

We were both /BLM and I don't think either of us had to Convert more than once an hour.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. My favorite parties or at least the most fun are when there are two RDMs. Once the two RDMs get in the grove of who's casting what, it's smooth sailing, almost no downtime and very effective IMO.

<-- That kicks ass!

I shall call it, my mini me.

That truely was an awsome PT. I think I had been drinking too much Mountain Dew that night as well.

Back the the OP, I have never found a great reason to macro in special gear for my Dispel because it is one of those hit or miss spells. In other words it either has full efect or none at all. Considering that with my MND gear on I am still sitting on +14 INT, I have never bothered to macro in the full INT set for it. If you want to reduce the likelyhood of resists, I would say the only peice you would want to macro in is your Dark/Pluto's staff. That should increase the hit % of the spell to a point where you never see a resist on your typicall XP mob.

A good story of one of my best flukes was when I went into Beaudoux(sp?) to get a coffer key for a WHM and while our other member had DC'd I decided to try and Sleep the Ruby Quadav for shits and giggles. (For the record, this was way out of the range of IT++) I landed the sleep and discovered that sleeping the big guy does not prevent his friends from comming after you. I fled out of the Qulun Dome laughing my ass off. The point is, this scenario is about as likely as getting resisted on a Dispel, so I wouldn't really worry too much about it.

This is an unusual EXP setup. I'm 8 levels behind in the party and the mob is 12 levels above me. I'm going to try a full INT swap in to see if that helps, but the level difference, I may just not be able to dispel it.
