Ok so through the past couple years through my own testing and others's as well I came to the conclusion of this:

Tred. Scythe > Triton's Scythe > Death Scyth +1 > Orichalcum Scythe > Death Scythe

Now, since I have come back to the game I see the new Perdu Sickle.

So I am comparing Perdu Scythe to Tred Scythe.

Tred Scythe:
DPS: 10.8 DMG:95 Delay:528 every 13th hit is a crit

Perdu Sickle
DPS: 10.54 DMG:88 Delay:501 Latent effect: DMG:93 +5 accuracy +14 attack

Now it seems Perdu Sickle takes the throne as the new best scythe. However I dont know if there is anyone that has parsed the difference between the scythes. 40k isp is alot to spend on somthing that may not be worth it.

So any of you done some testing on your own or seen any comments/parses?

Any info would be great grand wonderful.

EDIT: I am speaking from a spamming WS type situation. I plan on keeping the Tred anyways for situations where I am sitting on TP.

Don't play the job and don't have any parses, so take this with an appropriate amount of salt, but I can at least give you a few more numbers to factor into your consideration.

If you're using that weapon, it's in your best interest *not* to sit on your TP, so the latent's in effect almost all the time. If you were to adjust that "DPS" number (which is misleading, but still offers a handy comparison of weapons' dmg/delay ratios) to account for the latent, then you come up with 11.14 "DPS" for Perdu. You do give up 2 DMG but you also lose 27 delay, which makes up for it in damage over time.

Also don't forget to factor in the hidden 5 acc and 14 att while the latent's active (which, again, should be most of the time).

Yeh Ill fix up my orginal comparison, I left off some more of the details.

93 base dmg sounds low. I've always been kinda envious of the base dmg on DRK weapons.

But looking at the comparison... I might be swayed to go the route of a GA equivalent to Perdu Sickle. 24 less delay and 2 less base for stat boosts like that is pretty worthwhile in my opinion. The stats should be even more important to DRKs given that you don't have Bergressor natively.

I know Crappa uses Perdu as his main now so he can spill some details from experience.

Having top spam WS to maximize the benefit, are you prepared to handle the tanking duties that follow? If so, cool. If not, I'm not so sure it would be worth it.

Any Drk worth his weight in a merit situation will be using Guillotine. If you don't take off enough HP to have tanking duties not even on the radar, then maybe you shouldn't be playing Drk. (Not directed at anyone, just commenting)

I would definitly go with Perdu on pretty much anything, unless you are doing like a SC to MB party and you are forced to sit on your TP for awhile.

DRKs I know use Guillotine, but I also know they can get their asses handed to them. Just a thought.

I'm a big fan of my Blau, being lower base dmg than some daggers, but with the bonus to attack and acc, and lower delay. I'd recommend to anyone to lean that way for any job that can handle the after effects of spamming.

One works on every hit, under 100% TP, and on Weaponskills.

One works every 13th hit, if you don't miss. Weaponskills do not count.

Do the math.

I guess in reality that is a case by case scenario. Most of the exp parties I join are gimp cannons with only maybe 1 or 2 melees being the ideal cannon jobs. (as you know, you have been in alot of them with me)

I tend to roll /war in cases where everyone I am exping with are good at thier jobs.(or a couple WARs) If in fact I think I will be tanking more times then not...I will /NIN I hate doing it but sometiems ya got to do it. So I would hope that I can withstand at least a little bit of tanking no matter what.

I understand how those latents work... that was not the question.

You lose 2 dmg off a weapon and a 13th hit for crit for 5acc and 14 attk adn 27 delay.

WS potential should be lower with the Perdu Sickle but should be off set by the DoT boost and a more consistant WS.

As I stated it definately looks like Perdu "probably"takes the cake. But I think the difference could be small or arguable so I figure what better way to get some feedback then ask some people that have actually tested it themselves.

I have tons of daggers. Maybe you should just have both in your inventory and adjust as needed.

Max damage isn't the only thing that boosts weaponskill performance. Otherwise Woodvilles would be the mainhander of choice for WARs instead of Juggernaut.

Well the 13th crit hit does come with a few extra qualifications ...

- You lose out on the guaranteed crit if you miss.
- It's not as if it's a 100% crit rate increase on that hit. It's 100% minus whatever your crit% is otherwise. (4% assuming merits, plus whatever you get from DEX. I keep forgetting to go read that BG topic researching that stuff...)

I agree it's still very nice, but at least some of the 13th hits would have been crits anyway.

You're right in that they're probably reasonably comparable, so Perdu wouldn't be an omgwtfbbq HUGE upgrade of the sort you can't believe you ever lived without. I suspect that Perdu parses slightly higher overall though.

As for the IS cost, unless you're saving it up for something *else*, why not? 1k IS is basically equivalent to either a merit point or a non-low-level Besieged. If you regularly merit, and especially if you participate in Besieged every now and then too, it doesn't take all that long to accumulate (if you don't already have it). Unless you're regularly turning IS into coins and selling them, or doing lots and lots of ISNMs, most people already have that much IS.

(And if you *have* been turning it into gil in one way or another, well ... that's the price you pay for that gil. It's one reason why I've been sitting on IS until they finish releasing mercenary ranks, I don't want to kick myself later for being unable to afford something, because I turned IS into gil when I have many other ways of making gil.)

Amen. =P

OP - While the max damage of Orichalcum/Death Scythe are higher, it won't mean a whole lot if your attack isn't high enough to make it consistent vs the mob; 5acc and 14att is a very decent boost to your stats, and certainly not something to shrug off.

The only way I could see Orichalcum/Death Scythe being better than Perdu is if your attack is well above the enemy's defense (to the point of hitting for capped damage) AND you manage to land all hits on Guillotine consistently - but this is generally only possible with a soulvoiced BRD or a TW mob. =/ It sounds a bit silly but (fortunately or not) that's just how it is - afterall, as Skaw said, Maneater/Juggy combo loses 1 damage and 1str for 30 att, but it certainly DDs circles around a Woodville/Maneater combo.

Just to clarify on one point:

- It's not as if it's a 100% crit rate increase on that hit. It's 100% minus whatever your crit% is otherwise. (4% assuming merits, plus whatever you get from DEX. I keep forgetting to go read that BG topic researching that stuff...)
I always thought the base was 6%. When I merit, I always parse up around 9.7-10.1% crit rate with 4x crit merits. I have very little DEX gear in my TP swap (no Haidate either) so I can say with some certainty that the base is 6% for WAR, which is a fairly low job in DEX rating.

Tredecim in itself is 7.7% crit rate before you count any 13th hits that miss. Factor in also the chance that it may overwrite one of your normal crits - and while I know this number has zero base behind it - we can estimate that Tredecim raises total crit rate by ~4% given decent accuracy.

Strictly pulled from my ass but it sounds somewhat believable.

From my understanding, the 13th hit is a guaranteed hit, unless the target uses something that causes you to miss, such as Perfect dodge.

I was under the understanding the reason people main hand Juggy over Woody was due to consistancy. I think your WS numbers will be lower with Juggy but your melee hits are higher as well as higher avg WS dmg.

I am just speculating from what I have heard other warriors talk about, which ironically 3 of the WARs that I spend most of my time in game with are Maneater/Juggy WARs. However I havent tested it so I totally regurgitating information.

Well not to derail too much further but Juggy is mainly reserved for offhand. It's mainhanded solely by Ridill wars.

I've never seen a Meaternaught war go mainhand Juggy, and if they did I'd have to question why. Meater has 3dmg over Juggy during WS which should be considerably noticeable for WS, since mainhand lands 5 hits and offhand lands only 1.

The atk bonuses from each apply to both hands so I really can't imagine why any Meaternaught war would be mainhanding Juggy.

Just to clarify, although I know where you were going with the comment, you would only mainhand a Juggy if you didn't sub NIN (most do) and/or had a ridill. It's the ideal choice for WARs along with Ridill, but not really the standard choice open to most of them.

That is a very good point. Just get it regardless and test it would probably be the best option. Just so you know my standpoint.... I quit last october and came back the end of April. In the process I tossed all my ra/ex gear and gave my char and all my gil to Cmdrfly. He depleted my ISP before he canceled my account. So I am pretty much starting from scratch and am about 7kish (I think). Maybe I am putting too much of a value on ISP and should get it and test it regardless.
