So my PS3 Slim, it makes some noises from time to time, in particular with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Ive read around and it seems pretty normal, was just wondering what anyone else thought and if its nothing to worry about.

Also, I wanted to know if PS3 had the option to burn discs to the HDD like the 360 does in order to prevent overheating and spinning.

What type of noise? Just random disc spinning type noise or air blowing?

And I'm pretty sure you can't burn discs to HDD (googled it and nothing really came up). You shouldn't have a problem with overheating though unless you have the PS3 in a tight space or the back against a wall.

Like disc reading, for a short moment. Like a spin, spin beep, it sounds normal.

I've never had that from what I can think of but it sounds normal. My Wii does that occasionally but not my PS3. Then again, I don't have a slim so maybe it's different. PS3 is usually a really silent system so meh.

Also, there is no way to have Voice chats across games is there? Is it something theyre going to work on?

Not while playing the game no. If you bring up the "dashboard" type thing and start a little chat thing I think you can. But I'm sure you can't while actually playing the game. I hope they work on it, even though I never chat with people on my PS3 list anyway. Just so it's one less thing 360 has over PS3 lol.

In short, no. Though the PS3 will download game data from the discs of some games to better run those games. However, I've never had a problem with my PS3 overheating and I use it for pretty much everything. PS3 games, Blu-Ray movies, and regular DVDs. I've accidentally left my PS3 on for a day straight thinking I had turned it off. The only thing that happened was my controller battery died and needed to be recharged.

I haven't really heard of any overheating problems with the PS3. In fact I've never had any overheating problems with any of Sony's consoles. I guess that's just one of the many things PS3 has over 360. *drum roll* No RROD here.

If only they could have made it so after an hour or two of play, not idle time, it didn't sound like a small, parked car...

You obviously have your PS3 in a tight area or back against a wall. That or your PS3 sucks. Before I moved my PS3 in a tight shelf, which I plan to move it again, I didn't even know it was on. I left my PS3 on for like 3 days once and didn't know it was on because it's so silent. Now that it's in a tight space, it gets hot fast and the backup fan cuts on. And yes, the back up fan is pretty loud but not the system itself.

I've got the old clanky 60 gb ps3 and it sounds like a train coming through the room sometimes. I hope it's normal lol

I specified **NOT IDLE** for a reason in that last post of mine. Think about it...

I know you put not idle. I was pointing out the fact that I've never had overheating issues even after leaving on for 3 days. I've played it for a couple hours before too and I've never had sound issues until I moved it into the little, tight area it's in now. Which after like 2 hours of play, the back up fan kicks in.

Sorry had to say something about this...I've dealt with 4 or 5 people that have gotten what forums are calling the yellow light of death on their PS3's so yeah...lol

On topic: is your console laying flat or did you buy a vertical stand for it? The one at work is held up vertically and every now and then when we're closing I hear the disc read noise and a small beep which is normal for me since it's on from 9:30 am to around 9pm every day.

No, you said that to back up a claim of how silent the damn thing is, which it is when on the XMB or whatever. My post had nothin' to do with the thing overheatin'. Shit, why would it? It has a damn turbine in it and for what it is worth I wished my growing collection of 360s had one too.

I'm not going to fuss with you over something this stupid. I was claiming both. That it's silent so I didn't know it was on and that after leaving it on for 3 days it didn't have a overheating problem. You posted about how loud it is after an hour or two of play. It's loud because of the heating problem. Unless you meant the disc is spinning like mad or something, I'm sure I know what sound you mean. I even get that sound after leaving it idle for an hour.

I know you said not idle. I saw that before I even posted. I was stating that it's usually pretty silent for more than 2 hours unless you're having a overheating issue.
