Questions concerning certain magic...

I'm just getting to the point where my bard is going to start going through the limit break stuffs, but my real goal is going to be summoner. Any tips for either, particularly in the equipment area?

For instance, choices in the lvl 51 staves, as I'm approaching it somewhat soonishly. Also, any suggestions with anything else would be appreciated. Thanks!

For BRD you want Earth (Elegy) and Light (Requiem, Lullaby), HQ if possible. SMN will require a full set of the elemental staves as they reduce perpetuation costs. HQ reduces them by 1 more so they're very useful as well.

For brd questions just ask Vilurum.
CHr for brd is only for lullaby, elegy, and anything else you cast on the monster. if you aren't doing that then chr is completely and utterly useless to you and does not enhance your songs in any way. I would recommend wearing mp+ or defensive gear if you don't have skill+ gear in a slot during the rest of the songs you're casting with mp+ gear usually being the preference.
Learn how to pull if you haven't already. There is nothing that anyone will have you exp on that you cant pull. If you for some reason exp on tonberry then you really need to be worried about the Pt leader's sanity.
elegy--> runaway!--> lullaby@camp--> buff DD---> pull--->buff mages this time--> pull
That's the basic idea on what you're going to be doing if the pt kills properly.
Get the +1 versions of an instrument. +2 are for epeen and to waste some gil.
Madrigal is useful during the early levels when sushi doesnt add much but if people are using sushi or 2h weapons just drop the madrigal. minuet/march is the best combo for exp usually for ya.

I'd recommend taking bard to 75 first before working on smn, that way you can get your whispers for fenrir and do cop for diabollos.

I can't give a lot of smn advice on gear other than all of the austere set since it's one of the few pieces that give smn skill+ and nab smn earring as well(bit pricy just make it a future goal).

Get austere body first, then hat then hands, then the legs and feet. Your gear up until then will pretty much be like a whm except the mnd rings(just use mp+ there).

Also do you have carbuncle mitts? Great for soloing, we can get you a pair this weekend if you wish...

I only got the Austere Robe and Hat, because I'm Hume, I used my Custom Pants (+32MP) and my Custom Boots. At 52 I switched to my Evoker's Spats instead of the Custom Pants for the avatar accuracy.

I recommend doing this quest: Say It with Flowers and the quests afterwards. It will eventually give you access to Toraimarai Canal so you don't have to get three mages to open the door, unless you're Windurstian I suppose.

i only recommended the austere legs and feet because of the duration/accuracy the smn+ skill gives as well as greater returns on elemental absorption at 50. Smn skill isn't likely to be capped so the more the merrier. Of course the mp gear is needed as well but gearswaps pretty much.

Hands is great for bp timer but outclassed when you get summoner bracers from dynamis but goes without saying.

Strangely enough, Khidir, that was the plan. In any case, I'm going to need to figure out a plan to make a ton of money, as I haven't ever had a character this high before I need a set of HQ 51 staves (I love summoner and I intend to spoil it ;P). As for the Carbuncle Mitts... Would this Saturday work for you?

Also, many thanks to all the other assistance. I may have been on FFXI since its release for PS2, but I've been off and on a lot during that time, so I still say I'm rather inexperienced.

saturday is fine and you don't neccesarily need hq staves off the bat just get the nq then work twoards hq in time.

Thanks much, Khi. This is more of a long term goal for me anyway... my SMN is still lvl 1, as I wanted to go running around Sarutabaruta with Fenrir and Diabolos, as well as all the other ones. :evilsmile:
