Hi all :)

While showing Rappa's "Good Times" thread to a friend of mine here at work, he suggested an RMT countermeasure that was so simple, I couldn't believe that it had never occurred to me.

Normally, that's one of the leading indicators of a genius idea. Here it is:

Make proven RMT accounts permanently PVP.

As I understand it, GMs can currently ban accounts, a temporary setback at best as the character files can just be transferred to a new comp with shiny, new software and a new account ID. This would be different. This would be making a change to the actual data contained in those files, making that character, in essence, always appear as a targettable mob, while not necessarily allowing them the chance to attack others.

I don't know if that would actually be possible, but it is nonetheless the funniest and simplest idea I'd heard in a long time, since it would allow GMs to weigh the evidence, make a decision, and then just let us police ourselves.

Even if it's not possible, a guy can dream, can't he? :P

The funniest part is that said RMT accounts would try to continue business with their PK flag, rather than starting a new character. Though the few smart ones would immediately sell all gear, RMT that, and start a new account.

Seems you misunderstand that BAN MEANS BAN. Player files are entirely server-side, and banhammer deletes those files. That's why we have the leveling squads of... what is it these days, PLD THF THF BLM BLM BLM PL-WHM?

Though looking at it, it would be awfuly useful for the GM to make that final check as to if the person is RMT. They have the PK flag, and if entire LS's actively hunt the person... it's a good bet they're genuine RMT. :D

You're kidding! o.0

You mean to tell me with all the other banishments we've seen . . . Large is still around?

It was actually his character that gave me the impression that dat transfers(PS2 hero that I am) were possible, since he disappeared for over a month during those mass bannings a year ago. I guess that was just his/their way of staying below the radar.

Well, as character data is saved on the server and not client, transfering data between computers to get a banned account back is not possible :P

lol you guys think RMT is bunch of stupid china farmers? Yea technically we use that term (Which is kinda wrong also) but in true reality with real people, those china farmers are way ahead of what a guy trying to shut down would think. They have people with control (By that i mean one of those rich guys who gather a shit ton of money)on every server pretty much and it's them who guide them, lead them to NMs,and pretty much helped them out in the back of the scene. So yea you could flag a RMt or w/e but you would only be targetting a small source of gil that is being acquired to be sold to others.
Incase of Large lawl.... i'd rather not go into details
