We don't know much about the job, but I discovered something yesterday.

As a Lvl 16 BLU I learned a level 22 spell. Yes! A 6 level difference. Also for those looking to get poison breath it is from hounds I can guarantee that.

You just have to get exp for the mob when it dies, I think you could technically learn a spell of any level as long as you get exp.

I believe the cap is 10 levels higher. Uzor learned screwdriver 9 levels early. Cythe learned bomb toss 8 levels early :3 I learned sheep song 7 levels early :D

I've been trying out a theory. Your Blue Magic skill needs to be double the spell level you want to learn. For instance, Battle Dance is a level 12 spell. To learn it, you have to fill the "it has to give you exp" requirement, and a blue magic skill of 24. I learned the level 12's at 8/9, but my Blue Magic skill was capped. I just got Blue Magic 32, so now I'm going to see if I can't learn Sheep Song (16).

Just my two bits, and experience in the matter.

Edit: Got Sheep Song(16) 1/3, Helldive(16) 1/3 and working on Healing Breeze(16). Blue Magic skill is 34.

not a fact here but a question.

Someone in my LS swears that they learned Cocoon from a crawler and it was too weak. So can you really skip the spells and come back to them. I dont want to risk doing that though.

I learned sheep song when blue magic was only like.. level 27 or so. It's not double I think but higher blue seems to help learning

Burne, if you hypothetically skip it now. You could get it again in say Crawler's nest. However the spell is not too weak, and I highly suggest you get it ASAP.

i think if you can actually survive the attack, you can learn it.

Example: at 1BLU you sure as hell wont survive in altepa desert to learn 1000 needles.

unless you have a whole aliance, then its only about 55 damage each.

True. i dont think you have more than 55HP at lvl 1 though.

Then again, im a taru. XD

This is untrue. There are multiple reports of people partying with L75s getting the 1-20 spells.

From that account, I would assume then that the actual XP doesn't matter, just the level difference of the mob. It would have to be a mob you would typically get XP from, reguardless of wether or not you actually do. I would assume by this logic that a "Called for Help" mob might also teach you.

CFH mobs still won't, as they yield 0 XP regardless of level. I think that SE's wording was just shady, and by 'yield XP' they meant 'would yield XP when killed,' which means quest mobs/Dynamis-Limbus-etc mobs/CFH mobs will never yield XP and therefore won't let you learn a spell.

I already have Cocoon, i was just wonder if anyone else has heard of that.

two things:

1) I got a spell 10 levels early. Someone said that they think you can
get any spell anytime but chances are better if you are closer to the proper
level of spell use.

2) I got a spell from a "Too weak to be worthwhile" mob. No xp.
That blows that theory.

Your logic is flawed.

One could just as easily distill the statement to mean "would yield experience when killed under normal circumstances."

You can, for example, gain skillups on a CFH mob (at least, I could have sworn I've gotten evasion skill while running from a CFH before). As far as I'm concerned, that's what a blue mage's spell-learning can most be likened to. Until someone just out-and-out PROVES that it's impossible to learn an ability from a CFH mob, then I think it would be safer to assume that it can be done; not the other way around. It's certainly not conclusive just to speculate on what the vagueries of the official statement "might mean."

That was pretty much what I meant. A CFH mob, when killed, will never yield XP and therefore will not grant the opportunity to learn the spell. Nowhere in Square's information does it say a CFH mob has no ability to grant skillups, so it's safe to assume that they do. Also note what mobs are missing from the learnable spell list: The Mamnets. Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche, the Ark Angels, all of the mobs in Promyvion (the only ones that, imo, don't make sense), the avatars, Bahamut, the Sin Hunters, Ultima/Omega, Tenzen and Promathia. Aside from the base mobs in the Promys, all of them are only available inside battlefields and grant no XP, and as such are out of bounds for BLU spell learning. It's not like they couldn't be implemented due to storyline progression - they have no problem with forcing BLUs to have full Sea access to compete their level 70 spells - so why are these mobs excluded?

When I say "under normal circumstances," I mean that CFH is NOT a normal circumstance, just like partying with someone fifty levels higher than you is not a normal circumstance. CFH doesn't change the mob in any whatsoever, except that the experience and drop rewards from it are removed. It still fulfills the "would give experience under normal circumstances" requirement. The only way that your interpretation of the restrictiou could work is if you consider a CFH mob as a completely different entity (i.e., it's not longer a Doom Scorpion, it's now a CFH).

You're really looking too deeply into things when you're trying to make the statement stretch to cover NPCs under the effect of "Call for Help." The more intuitive leap to make would be that the statement simply referred to a level difference: i.e., easy prey and above.

I'd be very surprised to learn I'm wrong about this; it just follows through so much more smoothly.

I know Tiael got Blastbomb from a TW mob.

I didn't notice when I learned it, but I got Bomb Toss at either 18 or 19 last night then was surprised to find it in my spell list today. >.>;;
