Rape Only Hurts If You Fight It

Freedom of speech is great as long as you're not forcing your opinion down someone else's throat. As in, I have the right to say what I want, period, as long as you have the ability to not listen to me.

If I want to preach that sex with children is good, that's my right.
If a teacher wants to tell elementary school students that George W Bush is a great or bad president, that's not right. They have no choice, they are forced to be there.

Thank you, sir! I agree with this. I also agree that parents shouldn't force their own views on their children. I'm mostly referring to religion but politics and whatnot fall under this as well. I think it's brainwashing to force a child to believe in everything you do. I know so many people that punish their kids for merely logically questioning their religion.

Rape is one of those things that is really hard to joke about, even more so than murder.

Sarah Silverman, in Jesus is Magic: "I was raped by a doctor, which is so bittersweet for a Jewish girl. (Audience laughs) Thank you. I'm so glad something good came from that."

Her delivery of that bit gets me every time. It's a funny joke, but at the same time you want to slap everyone who laughed.

But then the government is forcing secularism onto people's children.

I'm not saying force a child not to believe either. That's just as wrong. Children should be educated about many religions and understand why people believe the things that they do and then make their own choice. I'm not saying that encouraging religion shouldn't be allowed. I'm saying that demanding that a child believe everything the parent believes is wrong.

If you wanna go even further, parents that force the idea that being gay is wrong onto their children. You can have your own views on if it is or not, but the fact is that parents teach their children that they should like the opposite gender. One of my friends got grounded for 3 months after he told his parents he was gay. Anyone see whats wrong with that?

I'd also like to address this as well. I completely agree wholeheartedly with you here. I don't believe in any religion, however, I practice Christianity because thats how my parents brought me up. Children need to be educated about religion, but they also need to be given the ability to make their own decisions regarding it.

LOL perfect government then why did rome fall LOL seriously that guy is dumb.

I don't think that parents should tolerate it. Hell, I'm not even saying they should do it. I'm saying that once children get older they (parents) should stop trying to force religion onto them and allow them to make their own choices. If they choose to continue their religion, great. If they choose to take a different path, more power to them. I only wish my mom or grandma wouldn't be destroyed by finding out I'm agnostic, lol.

Well, if you would have found a nice little Christian girlfriend like I told you to, this would have never happened.

Wha? I'm gonna assume this is in response to me?

You would be correct in that assumption. I don't always quote people when I reply directly after them.

Ah, I figured as much. My fiance had nothing to do with my turning agnostic. In fact, when we first started going out, I tried to keep religion out of the relationship because we had differing points of view (her being agnostic but me still being Christian). Boyfriend/Girlfriend relationships shouldn't be based on religion, I don't think. If you love someone, religion shouldn't matter in the least. (and yes, I do love my girlfriend, regardless of her religious views)

When I read this, it clearly came of to me as something that was not supposed to be taken seriously. It was obviously satiric. I don't think anyone who is mentally health would say that rape is any way or shape good. So he wrote about a controversial topic.

Also if you are making a joke about rape or murder or race or anything really. If you can't tell that joke to someone who's been through it, than you shouldn't be telling that joke anyways. And no rape is not by any means worse than murder. I don't even know how people get to that conclusion. You can recover from being raped... you can't exactly recover from being murdered.

i laughed histarically (sp?) at this entire thread

rape is no laughing matter

unless your raping a clown

As for the social out reach of this it reminds me of the Stanly-Milgram experiment. With the guy being asked to answer some questions and if he was wrong he would be shocked. Society looks at it as wrong but without we would not know that some people really are just followers and will do what they are told even if it harms someone else.

Or can you? ;)

Um...what? I've seen what happens to rape victims, a close friend of mine got raped by her ex-bf recently. She now trusts no one, save for myself and a few other people. She's a completely different person. So no, you CANT recover from rape, you have to live with it for the rest of your life.

In regards to the rape vs. murder thing, yeah, some people don't recover entirely from rape, but you can.

I'm not going to deny for a second the psychological reprocutions of rape on a person. It could start or trigger all sorts of disfunctions, however, it's not murder. Morally, to some people, it may seem worse, but unless the rapist phsically mauls the victim, then they are still alive and well. They can recover physically, and if they want to, mentally.

Being raped doesn't mean the world is over for you, and you have nothing left to put out. To become a hermit for the rest of one's life, is a selfish thought. If I were in the situation, I would try to realize that despite what has been taken from me, I have much, much more to give. People suffer all kinds of trauma and pain, if you look past the taboo, rape is no different, at least for the victim. It's more despicable because it's intentionally inflicted by a person, but in terms of recouperating and learning, any self actualizing person is capable.

lol blow it out your ass. You're just saying that because its still fresh. If she's never gonna recover and you have no hope for her, do the right thing and put a bullet between her eyes...

...unless of course she can recover and there will still be a happy life worth living. I guess you'll have to be the judge on that. If you're right in what I quoted though, you are doing her a disservice by keeping her alive. Who wants to live in a world of constant fear and paranioa?
