rdm melee debate continued

I really, really hafto wonder how the hell a RDM/NIN could out DD a Ridill WAR, even in spite of off handing Joyeuse. I think something was left out, like "The WAR wasn't taking the RDM seriously at all and was meleeing in Weaver's Apron, Tanners Mitts and Magspecs. and hadto afk for half the party"

Cause seriously, I'm not seeing that percentage reading as possible otherwise. I can generally melee circles around RDMs on WHM (and I'm still lacking Tabin +1 for WS, blee) and can't come remotely close to being on parse with a Ridill WAR.
There is that possibility too, they could have outright lied about their results. It's not even a remote possibility, given the results either.

have you used any eva in your soloing? i know damage -% wins hands down when you face a mob that hits very well; when i get an sh and some rings I'll try it out and see how it works, i only have around 14~ish+ and it's pretty handy already

Considering that Red Mages only have D evasion skill(cap of 210 at 75), you're not likely to evade anything; so stacking on +evasion gear isn't going to do as much as you think. It'd be better to soak the damage rather than stack on shitloads of evasion gear in the hopes you might dodge one more swing during the fight.

Well, there's really a lack of evasion skill+ gear, and yea, you probably won't go from dodging the lower tier to having the mob missing you versus even a dancer.

What's Nuking setup blu? Needs more magic accuracy?

it's not really relying on eva alone for me when I solo, it's the (in lack of a better word) extra mileage i get with blind, para, slow on a mob on mobs dc-T where just a tiny bit of eva helps vs steelshells(em-T) as well as the signet; it is noticeable when I stay just in attack gear that my ss is wearing, I know it's not really needed since dmg -% would prove better over time(and more flexible).

I just want to see the extent of it, it's only so-so now but I don't have a lot of eva+ on me atm, if it doesn't work so well i can refuel the money to hq d. harness pieces.

Just sleep them. :/ With T mobs, sleep if it gets hairy. -dmg% is most likely better mileage, I'd only have evasion+ for grav kiting. The crow pieces I use for -enm and in Campaign, where, once again, the mobs level is so low evasion actually does something.

It also helps to not be hitting 190 evasion during your maat fight....

never had to sleep them once neisan=P

tis how gimp spent his day getting 15~20 dagger skill ups to get his dagger of trial

crabs(em-T) are annoying since they hit a tad hard I mostly used the flies(dc-em) near the prime entrance the elemental there is obnoxious but rarely popped the 3 or so hours I was there

that's actually a funny story... i had went /whm because i didn't know how long I was going to be there since I was attempting to bring sword to 222- 240 as well(never did) and I didn't want to wake up late for shiki; I would've 'borrowed' your food but you changed the pw on me douche!(no food at sandy, stealing from neisan is much more enjoyable).

didn't bother with cocoon, my bibiki shell helped a bit with my eva setup and debuffs, I suppose i should've added that I used shadowstich once or twice to get stoneskin back up but it wasn't so bad, nothing special about my gear or sub but i didn't want to chance dying out the middle of nowhere without rr and means to jump back to what i was doing.

Since I'm really desperate for a good ws

You were using me for a cheap asian whore with benefits. I had to cut you loose, sorry.

It's kind of the big bro-little bro system

What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine=D

Hey it wasn't all that bad even though I accidentally 'broke' one of your orbs XD

Also; stop fucking meleeing and haste the monk you stupid red mage.
Actaually that guy claims he does that while hasting 2 melle a refreshing himself and 1 other, along with doing slow II and para II. Which I can see that happen because I did a very close rotation to that when I did melee, and still 95% time made it to convert.

It was a Ridill/JOY WAR (in hellstorms post) That doesn't exactly qualify as a "Ridill WAR" in my eyes.
The point was about DOT. The top quote(the quote in the quote) was stating about a person who was saying that if a rdm went /dnc that all he would lose is a ws and starfox stated that it mor then that you lose a lot of dot when not duel wielding. Which I'm sure non 2hnd jobs can relate.

If RDMs can melee in a party, I give WHMs the same right. They have a better Club skill than RDMs do Sword/Dagger.
It funny you should say that another rdm on that site came up with a strat where him and his whm friend would both melee and share curing duties.

In light of the recent threads on rdm end game tanking and alternate functions outisde of the traditional role revelent information is appreciated. If you want to turn this into a flame go to the flameboard and start one up. God knows Hellstrom is fighting a losing battle every day on QCDN anyway.

If you have information on how to maximize rdm damage potential in a merit party, regular party, HNM, solo, w/o please post here. Hellstrom you should have posted this in end game discussion imo.
This is just not at endgame though. It is overall from 1-75. It was stated even in that post that even if rdm was given better melee tools the hardest part would be to get rid of the sigma that rdm melee have(sound familar bst an drg.)

Melee and RDM should not be allowed to be used in the same sentence.

If you really wanna see how good a RDM can melee just make a cannon RDM PT and see all the awesome XP you get. if you break 3K/hr then you might be on to something!!!
Rdm where meant to do dmg in a party not that a large high pact dd, but prob about 60% of the average dd.

There is also mighty Talwar, DMG 40 delay 240 DEX2.
ya didn't stat that one due to it high delay it the same reson that the e sword is overrated it delay is outrageous. RDM specialty is quick small dmg like that of thf and mnk(minus ws) good % of are dmg comes from en-spells

True, it doesn't translate to good DD, it's just sad that Rdm is arguably behind/equal to Whm in the melee department.
can a whm do it job while meleeing though can a whm have the survivability as rdm? As I said before it not the dmg that is what make us better, but are speed. Read some of that source thread, maybe you will learn few tips.

Was pretty relevant to me bud. It's less a flame than a fact. If you're a Red Mage, in a normal, fucntioning experience party, you're expected to not melee, because it just isn't viable.

If you're going to solo or be in groups where things aside from the norm are acceptable, then more power to you. Find ways to do it yourself.

The relevance of the topic was just that. Don't melee if you're in a party that's trying to gain experience points efficiently.
What if it was viable by some of what is said in that thread they can keep 2 dd hasted plus refresh them and 1 mage. The dd that they don't haste they can do more dmg then what would have been produce with hasting him in fact they say they can do more then 60% the avg of the party. meaning if the avg is doing 20% they would be doing 16%, and that is with minimal gear

does your parse avg in en- spells because mine don't.

Neisan if you don't want to melee that fine the point of this is for people to stop thinking that backline rdm is the only way. Lately all we are is a mini whm that can refresh. We can be so much more and frankly I want to play the job to if full potential not only the cookie cutter way it is played now. Rdm use to be a pretty skilled job, but ever since taou it been well.... boring. Still great job in endgame, but lvling up it no more then a whm that don't have to rest and can refresh.

I seriously got nothing out of that at all. What the HELL are you even trying to say?

This doesn't even make any SENSE

They might have been "meant" to do that much, but in reality they're doing about 10-20% of a real damage dealer while also not doing their jobs as effectively.

No, their specialty is SPELLS; hence why their magic skill is so much higher than their melee skills and they have that "mage" word at the end of their name. They're not fast enough nor do they hit nearly hard enough to compete with even a thf's DoT

can a whm do it job while meleeing though can a whm have the survivability as rdm? As I said before it not the dmg that is what make us better, but are speed. Read some of that source thread, maybe you will learn few tips.
The only speed advantage RDM has over WHM is fast cast, which only works for MAGIC. It has nothing to do with melee ability.

does your parse avg in en- spells because mine don't. p
So now you're using parsers and they're ok? For the longest time you were whining about how they were hacks and cheats; but now they're ok when someone uses them to support rdm meleeing?

Red mages weren't allowed to melee long before ToAU came out; no job should have the capability to fulfill every role in the game with the same or near effectiveness as every other job. If you want to melee, change your job, but stop being a fucking moron who thinks that red mages are even remotely useful as a damage dealer in a full exp party.

Only the red mages are retarded enough to think they should be a god class; SE should just remove your sword skill already just to shut you up. If you have the time to swing your sword a few times in between casts, then you could spend resting to regain your MP back. Get your ass back with the other mages and stay there.

For every role you want to perfom, FFXI has a job that works. Paladins and Ninjas can tank. Warriors, Monks, Samurai, Dragoon, etc - they're pure DD. So are good thieves (the ones who don't pass off crappy perfomance saying "I'm just hate control, not DD"). If you want to support/cure you've got your whms, bards, rdms and such. Blm's the pure nuker. You want to be a hybrid melee + mage, a true jack of all trades? You've got Blue Mage. Seriously. It's the job most Rdms wanted from the outset.

A few years ago, my reply to this argument was: "SE misleads people into thinking RDM is a jack of all trades job, so I can understand it if people try to melee in a party. You choose a job, presumably, based on what you want to do in a party, and these RDMs are getting screwed."

However, this isn't two or three years ago. The percentage of misled newbs choosing a job based on misinformation isn't what it used to be. I say, stop trying to jam a square peg into a round hole. It didn't work in preschool, and it doesn't work in FFXI.

Oh, I had already calculated in En- spells. The Rdm with blau/joy parsed the same as a Nin hitting the mob 60% of the time. I'm not saying back line is the only way, but as it stands now it is the most efficient. Do I like this? Not necessarily, but it would be like a Nin complaining about having no Throwing weaponskills... Or a Smn complaining they don't deal enough damage to be considered a full time DD.

Whether the job is doing what is expected of it is relative; if the majority of the player base feels that Rdm performs to its expectations, Then there is no need for a melee update outside of SE doing the same thing when they said 'We want Smn to use their avatars more.'

I think the point of the Fast Cast comment is you finish spells faster allowing you more swings, but at the same time BLU beats the pants of both of them.

I swear SE still thinks people fight Tough mobs for experience the majority of the time...

EDIT: so I'm not accused of continuing in the Necro flame, at 33 a JP Whm friend gave me a Frost Robe. I upgrade to Pyro Robe>T.M. Coat in exp (Royal Squire's is better at 40) and used Brigandine outside of exp. I'm pretty sure New Moon Armlets were available back when you leveled (should have gotten Devotee's/Engineer's, although when I did get the engineer's I npc'd them since I no longer needed them), along with your RSE. Leg armor, eh, I don't remember what I used. AF Weapon for Convert, I didn't do this, but I did wear a hairpin given to me by Khidir. So, I'd say there was mage gear lying around.
