Hi, im new here but I found this page about botting in the game. The article itself was ok but the comments were absurd. It quickly turned into POL bashing.

One of the comments was:

Moron#1 said:
I had a conversation with the GM about botting. Apparently it is ok to fish bot. I think fish bots are the only bots that they allow though. They wont let you use bots that kill monsters because it inconveniences other players they said.

Yea, this guy is totally ignorant. But this next comment made me both laugh and cry at the stupidity of the playerbase:

Moron#2 said:
ya...pol has totaly screwed my freind up his gpa last semester was a 3.83 and now its a 1.7 since he got ffxi...he spends all his time on it cuz he thinks hes getting somewhere...i hate it...pol has royaly screwed his life up...

I mean COME ON, how on earth can they blame POL for this guy wasting his life away on FFXI. Most people can play the game and maintain their GPA. Its not POLs fault that this guy is retarded or something. And yet the rampant stupidity goes on:

Moron#3 said:
same here.. i barely ever get to play anymore. it does a download that doesnt help every 6 friggin days. i like FFXI and all but pol is screwing it up and changing everything. the only good thing that would help is if they put a limit on AH prices lmao im a poor DRG who needs some armor. oh.. and wht the heck do we have a GM.. they dont do anything to us...

Now this guy is retarded for sure. loldrg. But his points are just as retarded. I mean AH limitations? Unhelpful updates? Mr. Retarded.

Now the kicker: All 3 of these morons seem to think that POL is the root of all evil while FFXI reamains the shit. Apparently FFXI would be better without POL, besides the fact that you can't run FFXI without POL but oh well. These geniuses will think of something.

My first post. Well, better than the lame old "I hope everyone will be my friend! Tee hee."

FFXI would be nicer without having hundreds of thousands of people trying to connect to a single server using a program who's only real purpose(loltetramaster) is to load up FFXI. Focing people to use POL is part of the problem with updates, because everyone is fighting for positions in the queue. WoW was frickin' genius in using bit torrent to distribute their updates, since everyone who is trying to update is helping everyone else update. Yes, you need POL for XI, but there are other methods of running the game that SE could have chosen; their complaints about POL could have been in reference to prefering other methods to access MMO's.

It's not retarded to think that the method could be better.

Well I was referring to the part where he said that there are so many usless updates. I dont think he was referring to the actual method (and If he was, I wasnt refering to that when I called him a moron.) I was refering to his ideas of AH limitation and his comment on Usless updates. EVERY update has a purpose, no matter how miniscule. To call any update usless is foolhardy and ignorant.

I understand POL isnt the BEST choice, but its not exactly the worst. (Is it?)

All PoL is a lobby server. Kind of like an operator in old phone systems. You dial up PoL and then it routes you to your server that you play on. The only problem I see with it that they haven't really used it to it's full potential. Yay lets go into a BDSM DRK chat room^^. Yeah it could be alot better but what does it really matter? The game works, and no matter what they do when you have 300-400 people in small sections of games like this it's going to lag. That's the internet, get used to it.

Now granted those posters are blatant ediots, however I dislike PoL seeing how its a bottleneck for FF. I really see no point in it whatsoever, almost every other MMoRPG does not use this system.

...How is it a bottleneck for FFXI? The only time its a problem is when you cant log on because the huge update just finished and everyone is having an orgasm trying to get in. Wait an hour or so and then get in.

Blame ps2 for all the limitations that go along with pol/ff11. Unfortunate for ps2 players, but SE needs to scrape that version and update 360/pc, past the ps2 port. Its not a solution to every problem, but get rid of it like sega did with pso1 on dc. The real addicts will either get a pc or 360 or just be sol.

qft

Without PS2, the developers could come up with something MUCH better... but alas their screwed with the now sub-par PS2.

And they'd lose tens of thousands of paying customers just to please some people with some shiny new graphics, which would cost even more money. That there's a fine plan, sir.

Not just shiny graphics. The increased power of PC and 360 would allow for better AI, more options, a better UI, amongst other things.

Not saying they should scrap PS2, but if they did they could do so much more.

Sure a few may disagree with me, but I think it'd totally suck if mobs knew good times to Flash/Stun/Sleep certain players (i.e. during SC), or how to Sleepga II -> Thundaga III.

It'd be especially bad because a higher AI would make Dynamis near-impossible. I mean mobs opening with Mijin Gakure or stunning pullers to thusly tear them apart would just...suck. =P

You're forgetting that in one of the interviews, SE said that the majority of the japanese players play on PS2, that the number of total players who play on PS2 makes up about 40% of their player base; they'd be insane to just throw away that much revenue. So while the PS2 is the bottleneck in terms of development, it's most likely never going to be fixed.

So what you're saying is you don't like games that challenge you?

Oh I completely agree it would suck if they did that. But removing the PS2 would give the developers more options to do what they wanted, as opposed to having to limit themselves.

PS2 covers a major portion of the final fantasy player base. I believe the majority of JPN players are on it, and a sizable percentage of NAs.

That being said it is also the single greatest limiting factor for the games development.

I didn't mention the numbers on each system, because even if 90% of the player base is on ps2, the system itself is limited compared to pc/360. FF11 has many yrs left id predict, so eventually it's going to be fased out (ps3 version or whatever). Unless SE also does what sega did with pso and have 2 versions, but you use the same character data (pso dc ~ pso pc/gc).

There is a point in which a game may become too challanging. Dynamis is hard enough as it is. Now add in even more intelligent mobs and it really does become near impossible.

Challange is good. I agree that a challanging game is a fun game. But at some point, a game may become too challainging.

You personally may be able to react well to the new challange. You may be able to go beyond your former limits. But not everyone can. It may be a fun challange to you, but to others it can be damn near impossible.

Javing better AI's on the mobs woudl be harder, but more fun. I mean, I was farming today, and all the mage mobs in Yughtot Grotto (However you spell it) were casting poison. After the 50th time of not sticking, they were still casting poison on me, and didn't even attempt to melee me. I was like, "You're really that stupid?" Just kept spamming poison. Same with Yag mages and Bio in Giddeus.

A prime example of upgrading the AI in CERTAIN areas. A general AI increase would not be a good idea.

An example of an iffy intelligence increase would be having lizards travel in packs. Sure it would look coold, it would seem like a smart idea for lizards to pack together, but otherwise it would be a horrible idea as lizards are linking mobs.

Now say you made lizard packs in the Konschtat Highlands but not in the Dunes. This way, the parties who level off lizards in the dunes arent going to be annialated by a single pull while the lizards in the highlands stand a better chance of survival AND offer an interesting battle for anyone who wants to fight them.

Excellent idea. Will SE ever consider? Hell no. It would cost too much money to update the server and game to do something like that. They are penny-pinchers, which is understandable, because it costs multitudes of dollars to run the game in the first place, let alone perform a massive update on the game.
