Recent Hackings: The whole story

Help me fix my firefox ;( It wont work on my laptop. Only thing I can tell might be causing it is everytime I turn it on it says "OSCheck could not be started"

I'm on stupid vista :|
idk, it works fine on my laptop running vista.
Only thing is FFXI runs choppy on my laptop like Dowzer mentioned. It's hell, and the only reason why I still regularly play on PS2.

I know a thing or two about coding complex websites ;) I've never used any developer tools on GF though. I probably should but I'm just too set in my ways to learn anything new, lol.

More derailment but yeah, it's nice for debugging in CSS, it allows you to edit CSS on the fly instead of having to re-upload every change. Plus you can disable elements and all sorts.. Worth looking into definitely.

Thanks for this warning. I'm switching to FireFox now.

Firefox is like helmets for retards. It doesn't solve the problem of people doing things they shouldn't, just cushions it.

Anybody who knows how to browse safely is perfectly fine with Internet Explorer.

Well I'm slightly retarded and I like a little padding so I guess it works...

Except when the site is a perfectly acceptable and well known one and has malicious code in which attacks the user's computer using known vulnerabilities which aren't in Firefox, unbeknownst to the user. Then your analogy starts to buckle at it's knees really.

Another post, to secure yourself from the virus completely (complete peace of mind) take the following steps.

1. Download Firefox.
2. Get Adblock Plus.
3. And Filterset.G Updater.
4. ?????
5. Profit!

I have followed these instructions and used FFXIAH.com daily for the past month and I haven't been infected.

To add to this list, you may also wish you install NoScript, which enables users to determine what JavaScript they wish a site to use, though it may be for more advanced users.

Yes because good browsing practices are totally going to protect you from an ad that automatically runs a malicious script without you even having to click it!

No, but your security settings will. I'm dumbfounded by the amount of people that still use activex. That is the number 1 easiest way to get a virus. I haven't ever used it on the pc I have now, and I haven't ever had a virus on this pc.

I'd be willing to bet the key logger auto instal script won't work without it. I visit ffxiah and ffxiclopedia frequently, even now that I don't play anymore. I searched for the virus and the files aren't on my computer.

Bassiclly, no matter how bad you want to play that flash game that requires active X, it isn't worth it.

It's a JavaScript issue and that does not require ActiveX.

Though yes, ActiveX is nothing but trouble.

Safe browsing includes a decent and up to date antivirus software, among other things such as security settings like Trippy mentioned.

I never use firefox and I go on all those websites ; ;. I'll use firefox I guess.

Why not just stop using Free Anti-virus software? and actually buy a Internet Security Software that will help to prevent hacker.

Free stuff always have a limited on the function they do

I went to Somepage, and I use IE, and my computer blocked one of these twice within like 30 secs, on Dec 3rd, which it seems was around when a lot of these hacks took place.

You can secure you computer and use IE, or anything you want.

I want to say 3 weeks or so ago every time I went to ffxiah.com, alla, wiki, and even atlas my Trend Micro kept popping up stating the usual "someone is trying to get your info" message. At first I was concerned, then pissed because I thought it was just f'ing up.

I play on 360, but I have a network with that and 2 laptops on it. I'm not too pc savvy, but can follow instructions. Any worries for 360 players?

Oh, haven't done a sweep in a couple weeks. Doing one right away to see if my laptop is infected.

I have a question, if you're gonna browse safe, would you use the worst Antivurs? (Last line of defense), What about the worst Firewall? (most Important line), What about, the worst browser? (First thing bad stuff™ must get past)

Now, I wonder which web browser has an absolutely horrible track record with security...

It's funny, because despite all this WORST BROWSER EVER OMG IE crap people spew like projectile vomit, I'm using the same internet as everyone else, going to the same webpages as everyone else.. and yet, nothing happens for me. Antivirus doesn't even blip a hint of ill doings. I must've went to FFXIAH about 200 times throughout the begining of the week and last weekend..

Perhaps if idiots left the internet, there'd be no issues.

And don't kid yourself with bad track records in security. You're sounding like a Mactard. The reason IE is targeted is because it's what the majority uses. Firefox isn't inherently better, it's just targeted less. Anyone with a care can grab Firefox and find it's flaws and exploit them. There just isn't enough reason to do so.

Thats gotta be my biggest net pet peeve. People thinking their nonmainstream browser/operating system is some badass invincible shield, kicking hackers and malware authors in the teeth through cyberspace.
