Recent Hackings

Just out of curiosity to those who have had their accounts 'reset' after an unauthorized access: What kind of information did SE Customer Service ask you to provide?

From reading several people's post, it seems that some representatives are inconsistent as well as strict/lax with the policy.
 
Well whenever I had to have my password reset from me forgetting it I always needed to provide

-Full name
-Birth date
-First and Last Digits on Credit card
-My Registration Code
-and my PoL ID.

He said accnt reset, not password =P
 
It's funny that the hackings happened when the service provider has so many phone calls, it being the beginning of a new billing period. Seems almost planned. This is definitely a business that's hacking, of course I'm stating the obvious.

In any case, once the bonanza numbers are released, be ready for hackings on a broader scale. They want their gil to sell, and they have the perfect opportunity to obtain mass amounts of it. They just have to hack the right people. Protect yourself like you're about to have sex with some ghetto hooker, it's gonna get rough.

They asked me all this but I was unable to give them my registration code because I have bought the game like 5 times, I keep moving and losing the disks and I format like once every 6 months. So they made me fill out a form and get it signed by a notary to prove that I am who I say I am.
 
Wouldn't it be a good idea if SE would not allow for World Transfer for 10 days after changing credit card info? This would keep a stolen account on the same server so everyone can spam hate /tells to the RMT scum.

I try not to use the same computer I play FFXI on to check info. Fortunately I have a laptop that I keep near by to look up the info. Though it doesn't protect me from being hacked when I play the game somewhere else on it... :(
 
My account just got hacked, too.

The other day I tried logging in and it said my ID/Password didn't match up. Also the FFXI phone line has been giving me back a busy signal for the last two days. I've been sitting in the chat for almost 3 hours now, waiting for someone to pick up. Also, I don't have my registration codes. At least not the original ones, I have the ones for Vana'diel collection 08, though. If they try send me a thing to get signed by a Notary I'm just going to cancel. Not worth the effort in my opinion, since I just recently returned to Final Fantasy.
 
For those that have been hacked. Was there anything odd about your account before hand? Password reset? Game kicking you off? Also after the incident did you check you computer for virus? and did it find any? FFXI just added that community page thing where you apart of that?
 
i was a part of the community linkshell thing ma jigy. I asked SE they said you most likly had a Key logger. Which after i scanned my pc that i just got 1 week from today i had 2 Key loggers.

They said when i logged onto the linkshell community that is when the key loggers got my password.
 
seems like hackers all hack at once so SE will be too busy to do anything. isnt last hacking happen around beginning of the month too? might be smarter to reset password every month or something, of course scan system first.
Btw, what does character reset do for you? get all stuff back? then what about stuff that hackers sold?

so as long as your virus protection is up to date it should pick the key loggers?
 
I scanned it about 2 days before i was hacked, I just got the PC 7 days ago; i was hacked 5 days ago.

Nothing odd about the account before hand. I was logged in one night logged out went to bed, got up went to work, came home from work tried to log in, it said my PW was incorrect, I tried a bazzilion times same shit. Called SE never got an answer and waited 5 hours for support online. I checked my computer while I was waiting for SE. It found no keyloggers but it did find a trojan. I had my PW saved so i never had to type it in so a key logger wouldnt have got my PW.

No. Anti-virus/maleware/spyware/trojans/etc. programs are always at least one step behind. The programs the average user uses (this may or may not apply to the people hacked in this thread, I'm just making a general statement) uses programs that rely on definition lists of known virii/maleware/spyware/trojans/etc. to search for any threats on the computer. The better programs search for things that may have similarities with known threats, but while it can catch more things the standard programs can't, it can't catch everything.
 
I just want my account back... I have been itching to play since last thursday. my BST isnt gunna lvl itself

it resets your account to the state it was before it was hacked.
 
I was just looking around on FFXIAH.com and noticed that there had been a bunch of PCC sold recently. I looked at PCC and noticed that some of the sellers all had names starting with "Que" and sound Chinese (Quedongbei, Quechangmao, Quebaihe and Quezhejiang). Looking into the histories for these "players", I noticed that they had not bought anything, but had sold A LOT of high gil pieces (and all sold PCC). Some of them only had 18 or 23 items sold in their histories. I'm assuming that these hackers are truly from the same company and maybe these names would help SE track down these scum (maybe even ban it IP addresses to keep them out).

With the recent news of a US diplomat getting his laptop copied by Chinese hackers while on a trip to China, the continuing problem of MMO gamers getting hacked (by Chinese RMT, no doubt) and the fact that China itself is guilty of human-rights violations, I say that we should do our best to boycott Chinese made products, services and the Olympics. Don't think that I'm just hating on the Chinese (I am Chinese-American).

Sorry for the soap-box. I came to give an observation and ended up ranting. :biggrin:

Like the 3 hours I played the night before it was hacked... I got like 2 lvls on bst I would like back... will I get to keep it?

If SE's Account Recovery dept. operates like any normal IT dept. does, they back up all of the accounts at a certain time. It could be once a day (highly unlikely), once a week (feasible, but probably not the case), or once a month (more likely).
