This is an Japanese Indie Game, localized by Carpe Fulgur.

The main gist of the game is you play a girl, running an Item Shop(As in, an RPG Item Shop,) to pay off a loan taken by your Adventurer Father that he skipped out on paying back, and the loan company sent out their knee-breaker(house taker,) Tear. Tear also happens to be a fairy, and advises you on running the shop.

What also comes packaged in this game is a randomized dungeon explorer, in a similiar sorts as Diablo and Torchlight. To participate in these little excursions, you sponsor Adventurers by giving them the equipment they need to perform their looting tasks, giving you some sweet dungeon findings in exchange, which you turn around and sell to townsfolk and adventurers alike in your shop.

I've played the demo last month, when Andrew and Robin(of Carpe Fulgur) made their thread on SomethingAwful, and it's pretty darn fun. What sets this game apart from other Japanese Indie Games, is it's the first Anime-styled Indie Game to ever make it on Steam. The game is also available on GamersGate and Impulse Driven.

You can download the demo on Steam. I highly recommend checking it out.

This sounds like one of them little games that get you addicted as hell. I'll check it out when I get home from work.

Played the demo and loved it. I'm definitely going to grab it. It's also 10% off via Steam if you pre-order it.

It's going to be 10% off all three distributors, just that Impulse Driven hasn't put up pre-ordering yet.

It very much is, which leaves a problem with the demo. It's only the first week of the game. But you can get a lot done in that time, including unlocking the second adventurer to go in to dungeons with. Your demo saved games will also work in the retail version.

Also just a tip off to how popular this game is already: Yesterday it was #5/#4 on Steams Top Sellers list for the week. Today, it's sitting at #2. It's beating out Civ 5 pre-orders and Bad Company 2 retail sales. Again, this is for the week, not total sales, but it's still pretty impressive for a Japanese Independent Developer in the US market.

And, in case anyone is interested, here's the Steam News post from yesterday about the partnership: http://store.steampowered.com/news/4275/

Seriously, buy this game. I honestly can't see how you could do better for a $20 Indie game.

How do you unlock the second adventurer? I'm probably going to restart the demo since I made some mistakes about selling/buying in the beginning.

You have to be successful in the dungeouns with Louie to a degree, and then Charme can enter your shop and you'll get her card. Due to the one week time limit of the demo, it's a bit tight to get her.

And I've updated the OP with the Impulse Driven pre-order link.

I have to say, I frickin' hate the little girls that come into my shop. They're the cheapest, rudest customers I've come across and I just want to slap them out of my store.

Finished the demo, this is a very fun indie game =D

And so self aware too, I got a few laughs out of the dialogue. I'm definitely purchasing this on release.

Yeh I've pre-bought this so I get the cute little 10% off too. Was a fun game that deserves my money from what I saw. Thanks for the recommendation Skaw!

Anyone know when this unlocks? It's been in the back of my mind all week. I really want to play it!

Supposed to be today, but the game isn't unlocked through steam yet. Looking at their forum for it, everyone's been waiting a few hours so far to be able to play.

It's especially annoying since I found the leaked full version last night but waited until the real game was released since I had purchased it.

Almost feel like searching for the leaked version now... Seems kinda pointless though since I've already bought it.

The game's pretty fantastic. I'm hoping it sold well enough that the localization team can start making deals to bring another game over.

Just a heads up here. Carpe Fulgur has released their localized version of Chantelise. It's an earlier game by the same group that made Recettear (EasyGameStation), so it's not quite as refined as Recettear but it's a good game. Word of caution though if you try it out, low HP = ear rape. Also, they're working on a third release called Fortune Summoners. Looks like we can count on these guys bringing over some of the great Japanese indie games for quite some time granted the success they are currently having.

I'd also highly recommend you guys check out Jamestown while you're on Steam and have some time to spare. It has nothing to do with Carpe Fulgar, but it's one of the best damn danmaku Shmups out there that CAVE had nothing to do with. Most certainly the best to ever be released stateside.
