Hello all! My husband and I are excited to buy our daughter a Wii this year for Christmas. The only problem is, with all the remote options out there, were not sure what all to buy to get her a good start. Any advice would be helpfull. Any recommendations on games etc would also be appreciated.

There aren't any options for the remotes, but if you meant games, that'd depend on her age. I'd say mario galaxy and Super Paper Mario for single player, mario party 8 for having friends over, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles if she's an older gamer, or Metroid Prime 3 if she's too young for an M game but still like FPS(still worth it regardless of age).

I have a 7 year old, and her and I are often playing Cooking Mama, Sonic & Mario, Naruto (Easy controls.), Mario Party, Any of the WiiPlay/Sports games, and then there is the occasional battles we have in Dragon Ball Z. >.> I play my 1 character agaisnt her 5 gigant monkey force. It works out to be a pretty even fight, lol.

Great choice for the family.

I thought there were at least 3 different remotes. Ive seen the regular ones, the hand held (standard) ones and nunchucks already.

Wiimotes are what you use for every Wii game, just some games require the nunchuck attachment because they have more controls. The nunchuck isn't it's own controller, just at attachment for the wiimote to add more controls. The game pad is pretty much only for VC games right now.

Play comes with a free remote, and the games are cheap'n'cheerful party games really which I sorely wish were Longer or harder! :<

But I'd say it's great for helping to get to grips with the Wiimote, moreso than Sports

Thanks! Thats the kind of info I needed! Now I know 1 more thing about the Wii!!!

Gene if you're going to do a bundle I would suggestion the second one as it has metroid, zelda, and wiiplay. The first one just doesn't seem as appealing. You may also want to pick up Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario as Baja said. That would be sufficient enough for a christmas I would say of course wrapping everything individual just make sure she opens the Wii first so she doesnt go WTF when she opens a Wii game it ruins the surprise.

Either bundle has great offerings. Wii Play has great multi-player games with an extra Wii-mote. Legend of Zelda is one of the best games on the system. Lego Star Wars is great fun and easy for anyone to pick up and play. Metroid is another good title, but it is in first-person perspective so it may take some getting used to for a new gamer. The system has built in memory so you do not need to purchase a memory stick unless you eventually fill it up with Virtual Console downloaded games. Mario & Sonic Olympics is a good title. High School Musical is entertaining if she likes the movies and likes to sing, otherwise no. Simpsons is ok but I'd buy it used when it drops in price, gameplay is mediocre. Mario Party 8 is good for two or more people, but single player gets old fast.

Super Mario Galaxy is a must-buy title. Super Paper Mario is fun but involves quite a bit of reading. Crash of the Titans (Crash Bandicoot) is a platforming title that has multi-player cooperative play. Zack & Wiki is a fun puzzle solving platformer.

Keep in mind that the Wii also plays Gamecube games and has ports for Gamecube controllers and memory cards. The Classic control pad is an attachment to the Wii-mote and can be used to play Gamecube games as well as any Virtual Console games you download. It is not a necessary purchase immediately.

Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy are must buys.
Metroid is a good FPS, and exactly what you'd expect from a Metroid Prime game.
Zack and Wiki is supposed to be a really good single player, family friendly game. I forget exactly what genre, but my big gamer friend recommended it, and I trust him.

WarioWare and Mario Party 8 are good party games. Mario Strikers is also decent for single or multiplayer.

If you have a gamecube controller you can pretty much use that on most of the VC games and gamecube games and save money on the classic control pad. Other than that tidbit the rest of my advice everyone else already covered even better than I could of lol.

Does your daughter want a horse? This game just got delievered to my store today, and i can't see any store selling out of it anytime soon.

It also comes in catz and dogz. Cooking Mama 2 also just came out and could be fun.

Lego Star Wars is great fun and easy for anyone to pick up and play.

I second this nomination. It's designed to be easy enough for children, but has extra collectibles and exploration to keep an adult busy with it. There's also drop-in/drop-out co-op play if you need to help them out with difficult puzzles. The game is a big hit with my nieces and nephews, who are all under the age of seven.
