Religion kills?

Let people believe what they want to believe, it's their life, it doesn't mean they are any less intelligent or any less independent.

This is complicated a bit by the fact that parts of one side believes they are supposed to preach to everyone that doesn't believe in an attempt to save thier soul.

parts of one side.

Parts. Exactly. Not all. I find that people who condemn others for not sharing the same beliefs and ideals are not only ignorant/close-minded but they usually have something to hide themselves.

is this any diff then the fact that parts of the "other side" (atheist) feel the need to put down and belittle those who believe in religion, pointing out how misguided they are and ignorant to believe in a "fairy tale" in an attempt to "enlighten" them?

theres pricks on both sides. its not "one side"

the part that bothers me is that when its a religious nut, Some people point to is it as an example of religion or a bad part of religion, but when its an atheist nutjob those same people say you cant use that as any kind of example because, well thats not an atheist nutjob, just a nutjob that happens to be atheist.
Some people just like to have their cake and eat it to.

Enlighten? When I start spewing facts at people, it's usually in response to someone using religion to defend their stance on something like abortion.

But that's just me.

I don't remember calling anyone a prick, and as I'm not much for name calling, I would probably remember that. Besides, one side certainly likes to preach much more than the other.

It's like this: If a religous person runs an airplane into a building, claiming glory to allah it's a religious nut. If a theist/atheist shoots up a school yard and doesn't mention anything about religion, then it was a nut. If an atheist gets caught putting cyanide in the blood of christ at the local church, it was an atheist nut.

It's kinda simple, really. I'm starting to think you enjoy being persecuted. More of that "have your cake and eat it, too" you were talking about.

After reading like the thousandth thread on the evils of believing something that someone else doesnt, usually regarding a nutjob claiming to be a christian, I wonder 1 thing.

If people are so smart, why cant they tell the difference between a real christian, and a nutjob who does some horrible crap all the while claiming to be a christian. I mean the difference is night and day if you ask me.

-Loves his/her neighbor and even their "enemy" = Real Christian

-Loves to hate people who are differnet from them in any way/shape/form = Klan member using Jesus as an excuse for hating their fellow man... or "Fake Christian"

-Person who tolerates the beliefs of others even though they dont agree with their stance on a given topic = Real Christian

-Person who uses the Bible as an excuse to terrorize someone else = George Bu.. I mean Fake Christian

One big "issue" I have is that the people claiming to be christian far out number those who are real Christians. Its incredible to me how many people call themselves Christians when in reality they are so far from it. Also, Christianity was hardly built on tolerance...on the contrary it was quite intolerant of other religions and cultures. History is littered with examples of Christianity's intolerance. Not to say Christ himself was intolerant, but the religion itself was/is.

I think Gandhi summed up the charade of the majority of modern Christians best:

"I like your Jesus Christ. I do not like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ."

Haha, Stine told me that quote for the first time last night. I love it.

You can replace the word "Christians" with any other religion when someone acts against it's teachings. The next time a 'Christian' goes up to you and starts preaching, feel free to walk the other way, I do. Might sound funny coming from a religious person, but nothing pisses me off more than someone who is holier than thou telling me "you're doin' it wrong" just because I don't do what they do.
