Well I have been playing it for about 5 days now and I must say I'm impressed. It literally takes the best elements of WoW, Everquest and a few other MMO's and runs them in 1 game. The crafting is detailed and enjoyable as is the PVP content. I like just about everything about it and I truly don't know what to complain about.

THE BEST MMO LAUNCH I HAVE EVER SEEN. I for once after playing this game agree with the hype. Somewhere around day 2-3 I realized I loved this game.

The quests roll really nice and believe it or not, the random rifts and attacks aren't a burden. Your rewarded any time you join in and help take them down with specific currency and items which are exchanged for even more rewards.

I thought when I bought this game that it would be lonely and solo all the time until endgame like WoW was. Instead they have things on the fly called public groups. I randomly get group invites as I adventure in the game when im in an area that has more difficult 2+ people quests. Others recognize when something is rather hard to do so grouping happen like that all the time. You can que like WoW to join instances and PVP if your bored of questing.

The soul system of gaining abilities is the most diverse and cool thing I have ever seen in an MMO as a game mechanic. If there is one original'ish thing used here that would definitely be it. I love the combo's I create in the 3 soul tree screen. I fiddle with it all the time. I created a PVE setup for questing and another for PVP. Half the fun is messing with that and seeing what you can come up with. Lots of customization in this game.

The community has a lot of fun and isn't as immature as WoW's was. In fact by odd chance most players I meet played FFXI or tried FFXIV at some point. This community seems a bit older and that is very nice.

The guild system has rewards for all completing guild quests and there even is the ability to instant warp guild parties together and the such.

The "instances" aka dungeons are truly teamwork and its a great way of meeting people. The boss battles are a hoot.

The interface of this game is deeply customizable. There was soo much thought and careful effort put into creating this game. FFXIV could have learned a thing or two from Trion's result.

If your looking for a new MMO with no doubt a LONG future and a fun community, this is for you. This game will no doubt still be around in 3+ years. Again, don't expect a mind blowing original experience. Just expect a well thought out MMO that takes the best of all MMO's and lays them into an amazing tapestry of thorough enjoyment.

I play on the Epoch PVP server and my name is Ragequit. If you give this game a try come and find me and I will show you around this delightful world :).

Some of my friends have been playing in the betas for a while and love it; I enjoyed the open beta as well. I might grab it later on.

I do really enjoy the randomness of the rifts and how the whole area stops what they're doing to help out. I'm also enjoying the customization of your character in regards to what souls you choose. Bards are completely broken damage dealers and off-healers.

One of the most beautiful things about this game is the second you report a glitch, its fixed within 24 hours typically. They really take care of the community. They patch the thing almost every other day and are always looking to update and improve. They are putting on a freaking clinic on how to properly create and maintain a MMO.

I think you just won me over right there.

I've already been told by my local friends that it is failing pretty hard, already. Though I'm sure it will sustain it's own group of core players like every mmo ever has.

Don't know where they're getting that information, they're still adding new servers to deal with the influx of players.

This time around, I'm going to take the conservative approach of saying I'll see what condition the game is in 3-4 months down the road. There have been quite a few games that started very strong, but fell apart once the majority of the player base hit endgame.

Believe what you want, but the player base is gaining in numbers in front of my eyes daily and the amount of content on release is absurd. The word of mouth on this game is spreading at a breakneck pace. The "endgame" isn't like ffxi endgame. Its the same as the raids at lower to mid levels except with greater rewards and more complicated designs to win. That's the beauty. No real point to race to endgame since you experience the same during leveling.

Like I said the game wins for rewards.

Lets break it down little bit.

1: Close a rift-Rift closing points (Exchanged for special rift closing gear)

2: PVP fights and epic battle zones-PVP points (Exchanged for PVP gear)

3: Crafting daily quests-Craft artesian points (Exchanged for recipies and other items)

4: Reputation with factions and daily quests-Reputation points (Exchanged for gear depending on rank of reputation)

Many other types of the same. Also accomplishments and artifacts = gear for the points gained and story.

Also, a real BEAUTIFUL thing they do is specific chat modes. I'm level 35, I have a specific chat command to ask those that are level 30-39 if they are interested in a specific raid area. Makes things go smoother. That chat mode chats with all currently online on the server no matter what zone they are in :).

This game is going to be successful, a content patch is being released soon as well. Hating on the game without playing it because you may have been scarred by other MMO launches seems like a truly childish way to go about things. I was let down by a few MMO launches as well, but only by trying new games will you ever really find if you like something or not.

I'm in no way telling you to go buy this game or any other, im just conveying my personal experience in the game thus far.

A lot of games, like I said, have started out strong. Warhammer Online seemed like a really good game until you hit endgame, and then it fell apart. Search the boards here and I suspect you'll find a few posts from me raving about how awesome the game was. And it too had PVP and PVE content that was basically the same thing in every tier, with scaling complexity you approached endgame, which in some ways I think was part of the problem, but I digress. Pretty much everyone I've talked to that's played both games has more-or-less said "It's like Warhammer Online, but less buggy at launch". And while I rather enjoyed my time in WAR, up until the population imbalance really hit home and the game went all pear-shaped when the PVP endgame didn't work and the PVE endgame was bugged to the point of being broken, despite regular patching, comparing the two games in that fashion actually doesn't really move me to be all enthusiastic about Rift. It's not a question of whether it's a good or bad game, I just don't really think it's what I'm looking for in an MMO right now; right now, I suspect, FFXI suits my needs just fine.

In short, I'm not hating on anything, I'm just not drinking the Kool-Aid until I know the Kool-Aid isn't poisoned.

You are my Jim Jones, and if you're still kicking in 3-4 months, I'll consider joining your freaky cult.

That and until this semester is over, I think I'm better off not getting involved in any potentially engrossing games. For some reason my teachers in Block II are just absurdly happy to assign homework.

I hope to Altana I'm not Jim Jones! That story ends pretty bad ;)

Yeah.. okay. So that person that told me the game was failing I guess was misinformed.

Anyway, I just got the game because a few of my RL friends decided to try it. Here goes.

I really want to buy it, however I've spent so much money on games and clothes these past two months. I'm giving my cards to my mother for a couple of months unless I need cash for nights out.

See you in game in two months!

For those who are on the fence about trying this one out- it's probably worth a look.

I'm playing on Seastone (PVP) atm and it's definitely better than I thought it was going to be after my experiences from early alpha through launch.

I'm playing on Hammerlord (PvE) with an assortment of characters, all of which are currently under level 10 as I type this but that is sure to change since I'm off work today and tomorrow.

I have to say, I am enjoying the way different classes play differently. Melee is a melee, but the way the difference in skill functions varies the playing style enough to keep it interesting and this is just coming from playing the beginning levels of each of the 4 base class types. I do like how one class can play completely different than another of the same class based off of what subclasses you choose to suite how you want to play.

Bunch of friend's play it irl. Tried it at one of their house's that were past the open beta points and it's not bad. So I bought it and am enjoying it more than I did the beta.

You guys are making me want this more and more. Probably going to cave in soon. Going to wait until next subscription charge to make sure it's worth laying money down on.

So far it seems pretty worth it. My group of friends just made our own guild a few days ago and now we're checking out that stuff. Again, guild rewards and stuff are very similar to WoW with the exception that as your guild levels, each level grants you a guild point which you then spend on available guild buffs almost like you do with soul points on your character.

And as always I am really enjoying the way the different classes play. In a manner of speaking, there are essentially 24 different classes in this game and then within that, countless combinations and ways to play them due to the way the soul system is set up. It really is a neat feature.

Amen.

So i just found out, that if you're into PvP there's actually a seperate soul you can buy with Honor points (pvp currency) that is unique. As in, it's traits are soley based around PvP stats. Even the skills you gain from the soul itself are all very useful in PvP. I didn't know about it til a little bit ago. So.. possibly could be other special souls out there as well that I have yet to find out about. Cool stuff.

I too found this out today, but I don't think it outweighs certain souls especially if you're healer.
