I've yet to get anything like that either. Maybe it's got something to do with those of us who have M-names.
 
I've gotten a few in game tells which i just called a GM. =/

Won't happen, back in crazy christmas rmt found a way to duplicate gil through an exploit in the delivery box system.
That was what was causing that insane inflation back in 2005.

Anyway, got another message yesterday from this Hugecheap company.
 
Over the past month, I've gotten 3 POL Messages advertising from "Huge Cheap" from odd names in my friend list. Skeith seems to have recieved some message(s) from the same person I did, so we were trying to determine who the messages came from by process of elimination.

At first I thought Sanoske got hacked. But he seems to be OK.

Should I list the names here so you guys can see if you've gotten messages from these same names? Should I report this to a GM? Both?

i got messages from Afficial an Nobady neither are on my friend list.
look at this conversation with GM. when i asked him how are they sending messages, seems to be a glitch with pendind friendlist. but of course he would ellaborate lol

damn no edit button i meant he would not elaborate lol . and my spelling i type bad enough after i have coffee let alone before ><
 
I, too, had made a GM call, but not regarding the gil sales advertising but the sudden resurgence of fishing bots and warp hacking. While riding the ferry back and forth for 2 hours I noticed 2 tarus suddenly appear on the boats and spam fishing nebs.

I called a GM after witnessing warp hacks 4x in a row. I also asked if RMT related GM calls had exploded in volume, but the GM told me he "was unable to answer that question". It just pisses me off that SE didn't take any measures to prevent all this blatant abuse of the free trial system.

If they're going alphabetically, I hope they're banned before they reach the Z's :dur:
 
They seem to reach N just fine, three fucking messages from them now.
 
Last night while exping in eastern altep my party was ran over by a train of 18 taru taru rmts all on /follow. I think the elementary school teachers would be proud of their single file line action. They looked to be doing ZM. I have had 3 Friendlist messages from RMTs and one /tell in game so far. I think they have people take name chunks then spam.
 
I thought they couldn't go into any expansion zones just original FFXI areas?
 
I would guess that the rmt spamming /t and FL messages are on the 14 day trial. Now where you see 18 taru taru on auto follow not aggroing in Eastern altep~ Not much they can be but rmts.
 
It's obviously an elaborate Pyramid Scheme concocted by Square-Enix.

Square-Enix is on a perpetual money quest... The FanFest... The over-priced Tidal Talisman... And banning / shunning RMTs while subtly encouraging them to come back via methods like this.

It's all 'bout dem greenbacks, baby. Gotta make dat paper and pay dem billz.

There was a thread on these Taru characters a while ago, pretty sure they're not rmt, just some guy with too much cash running multiple machines to make ingame money (via Avatar fights).

I recently had my second message through the friend list system advertising rmt, odd that i don't get more considering my name beings with "B" which should put me near the top of the list when they /sea a zone. Obviously i don't hang around in the right places.

Oh, and no, i didn't report either of the messages i recieved to GMs, i just ignored them. I'm sure the GMs would thank me if they knew.

Is it someone we all share on our friend list or someone on the outside who's hacking and bypassing the messaging system to reach us?
 
Outside hacking in. Does raise some scary questions, like what else can they hack into via PoL.
