Rock Band 2 Announced

It's been announced already, don't intend to get it.

I thought Rock Band was supposed to be the "only need to buy once" game, where I get the base game and they'll keep feeding me music as long as they're doing it through DLC. If I have to keep upgrading I'll probably just sell Rock Band 1. Yearly increments is bullshit when the game is sold based on the idea of continued support through DLC.

Sooooo... you'll buy new songs...

but you won't buy a disc containing a multitude of new songs...

/confused

Yes.

I'll buy SPECIFIC songs that I want.

i won't buy an entire set of songs.

And I'll be quite pissed if I have to buy that entire set to continue to buy the specific songs.

I've also been mostly unhappy with the Rock Band DLC. It's a lot of crap mostly.

It's an excuse to compete with GH4's release sales. Once GH4 comes out the plethora of fresh songs will smoke Rock Band bundle sales, so they need a reason for people to purchase new ones.

Fire i understand you... But, there are features they will add that can not just be included in an update via download. For one, i better be able to do Band world tour online with Eleib... Also did they completley dissmiss the use of old instraments in the new game? If not i dont see the harm in just buying the actual game for $60.

I guess the harm is that I feel like the game misrepresented itself. You had Guitar Hero spitting out a sequel twice a year, trying to gauge its customers as much money as possible, and had Rock Band saying, "hey. we're different. Spend $180 bucks, get an entire band, and just buy songs for the rest of the generation via DLC."

Now I have to keep buying their games every year or else I get locked out of DLC, and the base is split so I can't play with people on Rock Band 2? If I want to play songs off 1 disc or the other I need to quit the game and change discs?

Yes they could have easily added another mode or two via a patch, other games do it all the time. They want to force people into yearly iterations because it's more profitable than letting us pick and choose what we want. I must be the biggest fucking idiot on the planet for thinking EA of all companies isn't going to do this.

Yeah, I don't think any game/company is going to come out and be the big savior of music games. It's all part of the business. You can only make so much money before everyone has their whole setup and is just paying Microsoft for the points for DLC. That's why they try to come out with stage kits (phail), drum silencers (still phail), etc. They gotta pay those royalties for the DLC somehow and at least they're letting the consumers transfer all the DLC to the new game and throwing in a couple goodies to boot.

It's how the gamer economy flows, updates and upgrades. Else we'd all be playing this stuff on a Commodore 64.

They're also upgrading the instruments to better quality ones. There's no reason to get in a fit over it when all they're doing is selling a reskinned upgrade pack to the core game and adding in 60+ songs at about a dollar apiece. That's half the cost of DLC.

Osi we are so rocking the world when we can do bwt online. You me and Ivolt.

the transferable DLC is the selling point for me, if that was not there i wouldnt be very happy and i wouldnt wanna buy it

Just so its known, you don't need to buy RB2 at all if you're fine with your current instruments. All future DLC will still work with RB1, so unless you really want the disc worth of songs, or really want the new instruments, you don't need to upgrade.

They better be, but the whole timed 360 release first thing plus them being limited edition will annoy the fuck out of me. Also the cymbals are all duplicates of the existing setups, so who knows how it will play otherwise.

Those drums are limited editions of the ION kit, and the basic version of that will be at least $150 if not $200. Odds of the special edition kit being less than $200? About 1%...

EDIT: They're 299 + 45 shipping, and the 3rd cymbal is extra -_-

Oh well, probably getting them anyways, since by the time RB2 launches for PS3, I'll have the cash.

I like how everyone I told they'd be $200+ said WUT NO WAI THEYD DO THAT

and I was way UNDER the mark... roflhahahahapwned.

Yeah the ION kit is hardcore badass, it's basically an electronic drum kit that is preconfigured to hook up to a game console. It'll probably be compatible with GH4, too, since it comes stock with 2 cymbals.
