Roles for dancer, where do we go now?

Only thing I'd like to add is both Saber Dance and Fan Dance are very potent. My first time using Saber Dance, I double attacked 4 times in a row and it proc'd on Pyrrhic Kleos.

Fan Dance, is my favorite one though. Lesser Colibris outside went from hitting me 49-90 to 7. Now that 7 went up to about 30 or so after a few hits, but Lesser's had a hard time hitting me. In a merit party, Greater Colibri hit me for 9 on the first hit and it went up to about 50ish after a few hits. And in Campiagn, against a Quadav NM, he hit me for 0 > 2 > 12 > 30ish > 49 > then up to about 60-80. You can click off both abilities if you feel you need to use a Samba/Waltz.

These abilities aren't game breaking, but it adds a bit more to what Dancer can do. I think SE did a great job with the merits :)

Thanks a ton TB, that's definitely great info. 5 min recast on either of those isn't too bad either. If you could play around with Sabre Dance a little more and possibly give us an idea on da rate. Also, is your eva capped at all TB?

Sure, I can try to do that. Evasion is probably a few away from being capped, its capped for PUP but DNC has a little higher evasion. The effect if Saber Dance degrades over time, like the first minute of using it is an pretty high DA rate. I'll see what I can do.

Very interested to see where this leads. Btw, are you able to perform a quick drain samba 3 right before you pop fan dance btw? it should last about as long wth af head, thus the no sambas effect of it will be moot.

The only concerning issue with all of this is: The 70/75 levels before you can use the better portion of the things gained today, DNC will still be a so-so job. If you are already 75, then congrats, you're on the right track. Still, having to get to 75, merit all of those abilities, and attain any/all of that relic and AF+1 seems like a lot of work just to possibly become a tank.

The moment you activate Fan Dance any Sambas effect goes away.

Tanking hopes aside, if you think dnc is just an so-so job, then you've pted with crappy dncs my friend.

Well, I probably have, but I've partied with a few decent ones too, and took it to 40 myself for a sub. Not saying that I know everything about the job, and I know it does have its uses, but I'd still consider it a middle-of-the-road kind of job in the latter 20 levels of the game, and for most endgame'ish events I would imagine (at least, not a staple job that people lust after for said events).

Agreed for the most part. I don't think it's too handy for most endgame stuff, SE said it themselves it was meant to be for smaller party stuff. But in smaller group settings dnc is just sick if played well, which admittedly is rare.

Actually Bladewind, I agree with you completely. I don't think that Dnc, if proven can tank, will replace pld. Exactly for the reasons you state, people don't like to change, and prefer tried and tested. And I agree with the healing aspect as well.

Blade, I'm sorry if it seems like I was dismissing everything you were saying in other posts, I just wanted to keep any personal beefs out of discussions that can be kept reasonable. Thank you for a perfectly legit and reasonable post.

I think what you've said is true, but if we dancers can get groups of people together to test things out, it's quite possible to change the status quo in some instances, whether those changes are huge or minor.

I have some friends I'm sure I can test this out with for NM, HNM, and other partied instances.

Edit: Lol, gimme a bit of time to get some merits and some Relic, and I'll gladly test things out with you Trist. However, even the best tanks can't keep hate off DDs that are trying their hardest to rip hate away, however those said tanks will do their best at keeping those party members alive, and I think DNC can possibly do that. lol I'd be interested in giving dnc/pld a whirl just to try it out with Cover. Although I'd probably be asking to die, but meh, who cares.

Actually, it depends on what you plan to tank. I think in meripos and some endgame stuff, it's very viable, and could probably stand up fairly well to a pld. However, things that hit incredibly hard, say Omega, lol, PLD simply will do better cause I'm pretty sure a DNC could get 1-shotted.

There was a thread a while back on Alla about tanking as DNC/WAR in exp parties, turns out it was already very effective. Funny though, people kept chiming in about keeping shadows up (ignoring the OP said /WAR) , or not trusting anything other then /NIN. lolcookiecutter

I agree, dance is a viable tank, but will never be THE tank, paladin just has tank writtin all over it, hehe, and we can never stand up to the kind of things a pld doesn't even flinch at.

I've seen mvoes that would one shot my puny taru barely take a nick out of my dad's pld, so yeah, we can never replace the job.

But be a first voke for them? Hell yeah =D

when i was soloing some gobs in the desert i found it actually easier to not use shadows. once dnc gets curing waltz 3 soloing is a joke. when i actually lvl in a party i tend to do healing to make it easier on mages. they sometimes get pissed at me though cuz i will cure the tank and then they will and thiers will do 0.

Personally, my fav peieces so far are etoile tights +1 (haste +3% to replace my barbossa's)

Why do you say "my" when you don't have these?

"Dancer group 2 merits have brought more utility as an attacker to the job, but do you think this will be enough to let Dancers serve as effective attackers?

Gondai: Using the new ability, you can certainly increase your offensive power, and the other ability, “Fan Dance,” is a marked increase in defensive power. It reduces the amount of damage you take. In practice, these should be great abilities to use as you see fit.

If you use “Fan Dance,” can you tank?

Gondai: While the ability works to reduce the amount of damage you receive, you probably could not withstand a prolonged barrage of attacks, but rather stand up well to pulling hate on a monster. It’s a good option to have at your disposal until the enemy’s attention turns away from you.

With the addition of group 2 merits, what do you think a Dancer’s role in a party will be?

Gondai: After group 2 merits, a Dancer will still function on that concept of a job that heals while dishing out damage. I think it has a lot of variations it can add to that role now."

straight from the SE dev team =P

Ya I know, I just read it awhile ago.

This is why some have been going /war to tank in parties. Uts is damn near a joke before you gain access to Ni. With (lol)defender, plus war's natural defense bonus, coupled with DA for faster TP (I think DW and no DW at /25NIN is still break even on TP gain, just increased DOT, whereas DA is actual TP gain increase), /war seems to be a very viable sub. Hell, to an extent it's already been successfully tested.

I prefer /nin for extra 5 acc do to dual wielding bone knife +1. Normally Im either puller or first voke.

3 shadows normally lasts long enough for the thf to satat tank, if not, I can take a few hits ^_^
