Ok, I understand that you can play anyway you want. I understand that with campaign, you have more flexibility with your job.

<rant>
But for the love of god, especially if its only a small handful of players in the battle, do your job! If your a WHM and want to melee, sweet. But when everyone around you is dying and your sitting on a damn near full MP pool, wake up!

Your one Hexa Strike isn't going to offset the fact that the only Tank just went down and your face is now being eaten.

Weakness and major downtime can kill alot of EXP/Limit gain, and causing that for a group of players because you wanted to play 'WHM Beatdown' is not fun for anyone. If the RDM can still enfeeb, if the BLM can still nuke, if the SMN can still buff, all while meleeing, then you can still heal.

Hit "submit" instead of "preview" but the other thing I want to add is:

If your fighting a mob with an AoE attack, do NOT bring it to a group of people already fighting a mob. You're just going to screw everyone over.

Some people do that for kicks. One guy just trained the scolopendrids to everyone every chance he got in one Meriphitaud campaign. Just remember the 70% rule. 20% or people wanna do the right thing, 10% of people don't give a shit either way, and 70% of people are straight out assholes.

As for your first point, yes it is very frustrating when you die in campaign. But when you go in there, try to remember that you are on your own. No one is obligated to cure you, and they are most certainly more intent on keeping themselves alive. So there are things you can do to be more self reliant: RR items from the vendors, and /WHM for reraise. Or you could just /DNC and burn TP for HP. That seems to work well.

I take it since you could see their MP, you were in a Party with that person. Was he made aware that his role was as healer only? Or were they under the impression that it was a free for all, and they could do whatever they wanted?

It surprises me that Campaign is still evidently serious business.

All viable options have been given here already.

Sub WHM and cast Reraise?

As much as they wanted players to cooperate in campaign, its really just a free for all. Be more self-reliant, as Excim said, and either carry RR items with you, meds, /whm, or /dnc. As a PLD in campaign, I came to realize I couldnt rely on anyone else but me, hence why I always go /dnc to campaign.

As for the assholes dragging mobs to people, yeah they do that, all it takes is a GM call tho ^^b its what I do. Ive gotten more people temp banned in the past few days than I can shake a stick at =P

That actually works? They didn't just say "Sorry, I'll investigate that", swat you on the ass and away they go?

LOL person got teleported out of the zone by the GM, thats how I know.=P

It's not really the fact of dying. Its kind of expected to happen in some campaign situations.

It's just frustrating when you have a WHM right next to you, you've already burned Chivalry and your second MP pool and you still die, without so much as Cure I, then watching the WHM cure spam themselves as they start getting nailed.

I always grab the reraise scroll at the start of each battle and each time I die if its available. It just sucks having to use it when all someone had to do was cure the PLD standing right next to them.

Sorry, forgot to reply to this.

I was not in a party with any of them that do this, which is why I say "nearly full MP pool." The moment they are the ones that start getting hit, they suddenly have an urge to cure spam themselves repeatedly.

Do I know for certain they have near full MP? No, I don't. Do they have enough MP to at least toss out a Cure IV or so? Yes indeed. I understand they aren't obligated to. It's just frustrating when that is the thing keeping a battle from running smoother than it could.

I agree with you in all respects, but again, Campaign is really just a free-for-all where people go to do as they wish even if it means not fulfilling the "role" that their job was meant to fill. Simple solution, become more self-reliant, and if you ever see that WHM getting beat down, dont voke off of him/her and let them die, and dont bother raising them. Its that simple

Do what I do as PLD. Run up and melee-pull a mob while the 27 other pussies stand there and wait for you in their look-at-me ws gear. Soon as someone hits it, it's theirs and you are free to pull one of the other 400 monsters attacking the walls that everyone is staring at. It's great fun and allows you to watch a great number of douchebags die. Guess I'm part of that 70%.

Maybe Whm's go to Campaign so they can do something different than what they are expected to do 99% of the time in exp partys, events, bcnm's etc. Campaign is there for mindless fun much like Beseiged, dont expect mages to follow the party line when its their free time they are using.

I've been whm and turst me its dull hitting cure, haste, raise, etc all the time, dam rights we want to hexa strike something, cause whm's build up alotta frustration and things like Campaign help us release. ^^

Makes a lot of sense, it doesn't take much for people to get tired of the norm and feel the need to do something different. I say let that whm spam Hexa strike every 4-5 minutes and feel useful in battle.

Amen.

And I bet that you don't die a lot either! I always find that funny when people engage the nm and it turns into a pixel genocide 30 secs later while I chill off in my corner with my mob lol. On one vs. one (not necessarily 2km away from the fort), you don't even need to touch your mp on /DNC.

I went to do a couple of campaigns on DRG/SAM too and even if it was risky, if you play responsibly, you won't get killed. It's all in the way you tackle the event really. Of course there is still potential chances to get MPK out of the blue but the chances you will die because of other sources are reduced considerably.

So my 2 cents: Let the mobs take a few stab at the fort before pulling anything. You'll reduce chances of link by a lot and you'll have the control over the battle progress instead of having a moron flash the shit out of the nm and end up linking and killing everybody in his wake and having downtime because someone tried to play the "holy savior of Vana'diel".

No clue if it makes sense right now, it's clear in my head but I'm too tired to make it clearer on paper lol.

Try /dnc like any number of other people who solo campaign. Or a mage job of your own.

When I'm in a party with other people, my priority is healing them, and if I have mp left over to heal someone else, so be it and if I don't, frankly tough shit. A mage in campaign is not suddenly responsible for saving the lives of multiple outside people who show up to solo whether they are doing so intelligently or not. You want a mage devoted to you? Be one, or party with one. You are not the only one trying to get exp, and believe it or not, those meleeing mages make more exp doing both than simply laying back to cure you.

Nevermind the fact that in a campaign situation, you have any random number of npcs, mobs, and players to target through, swapping equipment to ws, moving in and out of your field of view... There's no way to target everyone who shows up to smack a mob, and to expect someone to, even someone who's standing right beside you and quite possibly has filters on for all but their party, is pretty arrogant.

I play WHM and RDM exclusively in Campaign, and I don't usually heal other people that I'm not in parties with. You get far more points for dual-wielding and doing damage than for curing morons who couldn't be bothered to sub DNC.

I can solo mobs, even some of the NMs on my WHM/NIN, why can't you? D:

Most WHMs and RDMs will Raise the dead, but please understand we're not here to keep you alive unless we feel like it; we're in Campaign to get our own points.

I've been /in party/ with Alberic at campaign and sometimes eat dirt if I'm not nearby. =p

That said, it can be a real pain when you're meleeing on the frontline with someone and they don't throw a cure to you at all but jump right on the raise once you drop. That 150mp could have been better spent for both of us. I'm not asking for a dedicated healer or for any single whm to ignore their own needs to melee to make sure I'm at 100%, but when I'm clearly getting my face chewed on it'd be nice for a pick-me-up or something.

THAT said, I usually campaign on drg/sam and just superjump+retreat if things get too heavy. AF2 legs and High Jump can also drop you pretty decently down the line of people to kill. Mages don't seem to give a damn if you're dying on the frontline, but most of them jump at the chance to milk you for EXP/AN by curing you while weakened.
