Roles in Campaign

I've been /in party/ with Alberic at campaign and sometimes eat dirt if I'm not nearby. =p

That said, it can be a real pain when you're meleeing on the frontline with someone and they don't throw a cure to you at all but jump right on the raise once you drop. That 150mp could have been better spent for both of us. I'm not asking for a dedicated healer or for any single whm to ignore their own needs to melee to make sure I'm at 100%, but when I'm clearly getting my face chewed on it'd be nice for a pick-me-up or something.

THAT said, I usually campaign on drg/sam and just superjump+retreat if things get too heavy. AF2 legs and High Jump can also drop you pretty decently down the line of people to kill. Mages don't seem to give a damn if you're dying on the frontline, but most of them jump at the chance to milk you for EXP/AN by curing you while weakened.
Mages dont make very much curing weakened people and for that matter I got to one campaign once and raised 3 people then it ended and I got 90 exp, so really this is set up to reward people for melee action not standing by cureing. I've gone as Blm and the difference between nuking and meleeing with a staff/Scythe are night and day.

I see some melees that die then cry "Cure me plz" as they run back in weak to get more points fighting a NM mob or something, well if you want to be that reckless go sub Dnc or whm so you can cut out the need for a mage and be self-sufficent.

I turn down campaign and beseiged invites when I'm Rdm simply because I end up having to follow melees around cure/haste/refresh/etc them, sorry but at events like this I do for my enjoyment, if I can heal or raise someone in need I will but I am not there to become a personal cure-bot.

Amen.

And I bet that you don't die a lot either! I always find that funny when people engage the nm and it turns into a pixel genocide 30 secs later while I chill off in my corner with my mob lol. On one vs. one (not necessarily 2km away from the fort), you don't even need to touch your mp on /DNC.

I went to do a couple of campaigns on DRG/SAM too and even if it was risky, if you play responsibly, you won't get killed. It's all in the way you tackle the event really. Of course there is still potential chances to get MPK out of the blue but the chances you will die because of other sources are reduced considerably.

So my 2 cents: Let the mobs take a few stab at the fort before pulling anything. You'll reduce chances of link by a lot and you'll have the control over the battle progress instead of having a moron flash the shit out of the nm and end up linking and killing everybody in his wake and having downtime because someone tried to play the "holy savior of Vana'diel".

No clue if it makes sense right now, it's clear in my head but I'm too tired to make it clearer on paper lol.

Nope, as PLD/DNC, WAR/DNC, SAM/DNC, NIN/DNC, or BLU/DNC I rarely die, hell on PLD/DNC I can hold off two mobs, finish one off (thank you Atonement =D) and start on the other without so much as breaking a sweat or hardly touching my MP.

Dont get me wrong, I understand the frustration of having a mage nearby who you know hasn't been casting shit, and that doesnt even bother to cure you once you're dying, but I mean come on! If you dont keep us tanks or melee's (who end up tanking at times) alive, guess who's next on the kill list

This is all i'm getting at. I'm not saying "Drop everything and curebomb". I'm saying that while your meleeing, toss out a cure here or there so the tank stays up and you aren't going to die shortly afterwards.

But you also gotta look at the other side of the coin. As others here have mentioned, while you're in the middle of meleeing (as a mage) you cant really check a person's HP, and what point is there to toss a cure at someone who prolly is in the middle of casting it on themselves? The mage wastes MP and as an added bonus gets nothing for that MP wasted!

All in all, a balance should be struck when it comes to it, but I really dont see that happening =/

/ma "Cure V" <stpc>, tab around for targets, especially the one being wailed on.

Makes a lot of sense, it doesn't take much for people to get tired of the norm and feel the need to do something different. I say let that whm spam Hexa strike every 4-5 minutes and feel useful in battle.

A haste geared whm with nin sub and prudence rod in off hand will out tp most people.

As it was mentioned before, that's all well and good... in a perfect world where no one blinks when they swap gear, that would be a great solution. I have more things to do than repeatedly scan a huge mob of outside people trying to target them. No thank you. Sub dancer or mage. Problem solved.

As people said, it's just how you play it whether by subbing dnc or whm or use meds, buy RR scrolls or etc etc.
I hated doing campaign early on playing as rdm because all I got was a measly 500 exp from just healing or nuking. It just didn't seem to be worth it at all because for the same 30min in a campaign fight, my bf's WAR got like...2000exp. Yea, it just wasn't fair if you go and play as your assumed pt role. Curing, hasting, even raising random people did not make it worth my time.

It wasn't until I actually saw mages meleeing mobs and stuff was when I tried it out myself.
The difference was indeed like night and day. I cranked out 1500exp or so (maybe more) in the same amount of time. I was so excited with that lol.
So yea, instead of doing my usual mage duties, I just meleed, healed myself if needed. On rdm, I subbed whm for RR and I did just fine until some smartass thought it was funny to slingshot a NM turtle to the group of weakened people.

Sure it's frustrating to see a PLD not tanking, or a BLM not stunning, or a WAR not voking but it's all fair game there. They all want exp, they'll get it one way or another. Even if it means not choosing to heal others or voke, stunning, etc.

People pretty much already said it and made a point but on RDM/NIN, I usually just solo a mob or two or melee with other people. I don't usually cure people outside of my party. When I campaign on PLD, I always sub RDM (because I haven't finished DNC sub.) I can easily handle myself as /RDM. Yeah, you can tab around to cure other people, but if I'm soloing a mob, I kinda need the MP for myself. If other people are in my party, I try to worry about us more.

As it was mentioned before, it isn't looking for a dedicated healer, it is just an occasional cure that will save the tank's life, and yours by extension.

I'm not looking for a tank to save my life. I come knowing that it costs no exp, I come prepared to heal myself and my own party, and others when I am able, and I come prepared to die on occasion. I don't bitch at other people to voke, tank, or save my ass. That's what RR is for. Personally, I fight most battles with someone who is perfectly capable of tanking one just fine without help short of the uber-strong nms, and if other people involve themselves, come over and voke, that's their business, and not my problem or responsibility. That's the point I'm making.

Campaign is one of the few events in this game that people can do leisurely and not worry about standard party guidelines. Someone can easily turn this around and say : Know your role and buy a RR earring if you want to live, or as mentioned sub a different sub job to better your odds. I've HP'd many a time due to lack of cures and raises, but I'm not gonna basically tell someone get back in the damn kitchen. XD

The cool thing about campaign is doing what you can't do in a regular party. I sub what I want accepting my unlucky fate as a melee or melee mage. When i'm on any of my mages, yes. my macros do have <stpc> in them and I tab around for the poor guy maybe getting pounded. Or drop haste on a near by pld or nin. Or a stun if I see ore toss or something else that can be prevented. because if it were me? I'd appreicate it. Do I have to? No. But I'm not going to make sour faces at the person who doesn't. its thier own free time. they arn't bound to usual xp party rules.

If you want to enjoy yourself, don't worry about what people around you are or arn't doing. No XP loss for freak accidents here. You can always turn in your tags and get the XP you earned and reflag after a few battles. Then maybe you won't be so upset if you do end up stuck without cures or raises.

So whats gonna happen when the whole union thing comes out?

"Damnit whm stop meleeing and heal our tank! We're actually trying to win this"

"Why the hell didnt you get an RR scroll?"

"/assist the damn tank already, focus on the same mob!"

"Dammit dont ninja lot my shit!"

Definitely promises for some good popcorn.

I attend Campaign and Beseiged for my own enjoyment, must be why I enjoy FoV so much nobody to tell me what to do there. No union for me I suspect, I'm freelancing. :)

Depending on what my Puppet was at that moment in time, If I was getting low on health and it couldn't cure me just asking for a cure usually netted me one...of course it wasn't a
"CURE ME NOW FUCKERS!" more polite...

Not saying you were rude or anything, just adding in my two cents, asking doesn't hurt either...=D

Yeh what Hit said, if I ask for a cure nicely I often get one from someone.

This is a poor example. The whole point of the union thing is cooperative participation to accomplish a goal. You don't work together, you don't get drops or accomplish the task. You'd only be hurting yourself by not doing your "expected" role in party. It's totally different from campaign where your goal - exp and AN - is accomplished solo and with or without the aid of others.

This right here, has netted me quite a few life saving cures to say the least. Ask nicely, people might just actually listen XD
