First of all, welcome to QCDN. You're in for a treat... ^^; lol
Anyways, on to your topic. As a member of QCDN for a long time running now, along with a lot of the other familiar faces seen here daily, we have seen many changes. From starting with an Administrator who wasn't around much (Pup is cool, just had other things to do), to Sculli (who I thought has done a great job providing us with a place to make our community thrive, and now on to Reeve. It is already being debated as whether another change like this will strengthen or ultimately destroy the board (which I hope doesn't happen.)
This is why I believe a change to the earlier days is necessary. Although I never really fully backed the Flameboard, when it was removed it seemed like a part of the community was just closed off. Members split, fighting moved to other parts of the boards, and even made its appearance in a more mild form in order to appease the masses. I think that these new forums, such as Neighborhood Watch and The Burning Circle should be recombined to recreate the Flameboard as we once knew it. But that is just the beginning. Although intended as a place to vent, rules should still be enforced there, with the rule of no personal insults with no relevance to the issue. This is a fineline, I know. Mods must be chosen carefully for this section, as the mod will tend to take the reprecussions of his or her actions.
My next thought is exactly what Tim Wakefield said. We need a fresh crowd (preferably those who don't type like idiots in their introduction thread. They even piss me off). I'm not talking about going out with mass advertising or anything of that nature. Things like the Weekly Worldpass that Kotus started is what I am talking about. I know it would be hard to get some people to help out the random new comers, and I also know that once you help them once, they might expect more, but it could be a start to getting some fresh faces here. This isn't really something you as an Admin need to worry about as much as it is us members and players that need to present a more welcome atmosphere.
Threadcrapping definitely has to be put down.
I agree with allowing replies in the Auction House. The original poster can reply to his/her own thread, but someone willing to help isn't able to. A reply helps out more than one person when it comes to exchange of goods. The last thing you want to see is 5 threads in a row with the same exact topic. One topic should suffice, and allow members to search the forum to see who can make what, who has certain items for sale, and not have it go out of date.
And as far as a QCDN Instant Messanger, the current one is good enough in my opinion, as it is only really used for maintenace times. The link automatically creates an AOL Chatroom, so it pretty much already is a private room for us Quetzy members. I have found that Instant Messaging can actually help out weeding of pointless threadcrapping, as it can be done in real time, and can help keep posts for longer lasting issues.
Anyways, that is it for now. If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to look for this thread again.
Good luck.
