Rude People

I must first say I could care less about the Gil-Sellers in this game. I know first hand alot of respectable people who "buy-gil" and then turn around and bash gil sellers. I can understand the reasons for buying gil and I can see others point of view in how gil-sellers ruin our economy. I tend not to judge anyone unless of course I see people make stupid decisions, which is why I have this opinon.

I've always thought the way to solve our inflation problems was to bash those that pay inflated prices, but anyway that is another story.

A Gamer playing along side a Gil seller means the Gil Seller will make less profit, and more gil stays clean in the game.

This is only true if you want to look at the positive side of the argument. If you look at the negative, what your doing is making it easier for gil-sellers to advance get higher lvls and get better "loot", and more importantly more loot. This has already happened though so the arguement is pretty old. I have no idea how many "new" gilsellers come into the server everyday but making it easier for them is not helping anyone at all.

Another thing, I do not buy gil. But sometimes I wish I did. My time is alot more precious than my money, especailly at the prices that the sell it at. But unfortunatly for my game life, I have not. You can go look at the levels of my jobs and the gear I wear sometimes if you do not believe me and laugh. :D

As usuall you're well spoken Darkdante.

The 6 Gil Sellers that gained my trust are all level level 75 now, they can kill HNMs as they are. If i'm there with them or not, "the mob will die" and drop the item. None of us can stop them for what they do except S.E. and Gil sellers are still here.

A gamer making equal shares with a PT of gil sellers like that, is good for both sides of the argument i think. And dosn't deserve to be bashed for being at peace with even the lowest of representatives on the server.

Wow. Anttaru, just wow.

I refuse to party [help; assist] anyone who may be a well known gil seller for the simple fact that I do not agree with what they are practicing. Do I MPK? Nope. I know what it means, but I don't even know what it stands for. (Ex = n00b) Do I hate them? Nope. I realize why they are doing what they are doing is for money. The same way a hooker turns tricks, or a Police Officer doles out speeding tickets. I do not hate the hooker, or the police officer, so long as they are not doing anything to directly damper my experiences.

Now, I have on the other hand, seen some pretty messed up things done by gil sellers. Like, the BST charming Stroper Chyme, and Luchking and his gang putting it to sleep so our crew couldn't get a ToD. The I hear of the MPK stories.

But really, I've been treated just as bad or worse by gamers. I have indeed been MPK'ed in Garliage Citadel. We were hunting skeletons at level 52, and this RDM in rull AF ran up to us and said "PL 50k for 1 hour." I told him "{No thanks}" So he started resting nearby, I didn't think anything of it. We starting fighting a Fallen Mage, and I see him run into the room, then come back. He starts casting Warp, and I'm thinking... oh man, here we go... Sure enough, just as he warps away a Fallen Mage is standing in the middle of my party, whacking away at the MNK. I use Flash, BLM escapes, we are safe. I get a tell "u should have taken the PL XD" from the RDM.

A gil Seller has never done that to me before.

Again, I'm against what the Gil Sellers are doing. I think it's wrong to take advantage of a company to make money for yourself. The ethics of it are just not right. Do I hate them? Nope. But I sure do hate that RDM...

U wanted a raise....??? If u help gil sellers against serket i'm gonna mpk you and the whm who raises you. j/k but still fuck you for helping them.

Amw team was shouting for Optical so i shouted also and guess what i got in /tell?
"We not gil sellers we friends adn we play game blah blah blah. You can ask anntaru." nice to meet u anntaru.

Okay, think of it this way. You and some friends head to a basketball hoop in your local neighborhood to play some basketball.

Then one day a gang comes in, kicks you out and takes every single hoop at the court. They aren't even playing basketball. They're just there to say they're playing basketball while they deal drugs for money.

Sethala said:
That's... a pretty crappy analogy. See, if you play basketball, you're doing it for fun. You've got no bigger plans in mind. When you camp NMs, chances are unless it drops a rare/ex item you need, you're camping it for profit. So are the gilsellers.

I think the analogy holds. Where you're blurring the line, Seth, is in not making a distinction between game profit, and real-life profit. In other words, no matter how much gil we might have, we're still chalkin up the 13 or so bucks a month as a loss; not so the gil-sellers.

Not to mention the fact that in the very strictest sense, what they're doing could be deemed illegal. Now I'm not a lawyer by any stretch, but isn't the practice of gil-selling something tantamount to copyright infringement? After all, SE created "gil" as a concept, use it as an integral part of their FF series, and now that they've gone on-line, it has become (I might be coinin a phrase here . . .) a virtual commodity. What any gil-seller is doing is hijacking this particular virtual product for their own profit.

Here's a thought! What if SE were to sell gil themselves? I mean, let's face it, they can set the price wherever they want, and have the added advantage of creating it with a few simple keystrokes. It would cut gil-sellers off at the knees, and anyone who actually took advantage of the offer would still be viewed in the same light that they are now by those of us who consider it "cheating".

Just a thought :P

And now we get into quite a few moral/legal debates. So the real question is, is buying/selling online items in a game immoral? Personally, I think the answer is no. Of course, the repurcussions of people who obtained gil in this way is a completely different topic entirely.

But that doesn't mean it's right. It just means that in my opinion, it's allowable. Personally I think my money is better spent on other things (like college...), but if someone feels like they want to spend their own real-world money for in-game money, I have no real problems with that.

As for how the gilsellers got that money, as long as they weren't doing anything "underhanded" (i.e. MPK), I don't really care, although I do wish SE would lower the NPC price of fixed rusties even more... but that's a different topic.

And the legal issue... there's quite a few things that are illegal that I think shouldn't be, and quite a few things that probably should be illegal but aren't. Can't think of anything off the top of my head, though.

The big thing about it is that these people don't camp these mobs for the thrill of it, or because they want the item, or even USE the money to buy items they need. They get it, sell it off to the highest bidder and repeat. While this may be ethical according to the rules of the game, it just doesn't sit right. Honestly, I have NEVER met a nice person whom I've suspected of being a gil seller. I've seen PARTIES of gil sellers trying to get help from me. One guy even asked me to raise their whole party. With names like JHFK or anything else where it looks like they hit the keyboard with their fist when they asked for a name, I generally am hesistant to help.

Why? Because they support a lifestyle I don't agree with. People who pay for their gil or pay for their character to be levelled don't do the same kind of work as I've had to. They really don't appreciate what everyone else has gone through and therefore doesn't treat it the same. Oh, I bought a million gil. I'll blow it right away... I've hit that million mark....and then blown it all on my elemental staves... And I'm back working up to that mark again.

As extreme as it sounds, just because they've been nice to you, doesn't mean what they stand for isn't wrong.

They have no use for the item itself, just the money attached to it (RL money). Why would I get mad if this happened to me, even if they got the mob legit? Because I know they won't be using it to do anything useful inside the game with it. Same reason why people get mad when like a whm lots on the Assault jerkin, or a warrior lots on a moldavite ring. Even if they won the lot fair and square (according to S-E awesome lotting system), people are still goign to be mad.

I'd rather see Palum get eaten by a savannah rarab, take my exp hit, come back out, and come for seconds, before I let him knowingly help a gil seller.

Another analogy:

Player: Yeah, thankfully we still have the 'y'.... so where ya been Seth?

Sethala: Oh... I've been at the serket hoop... with the gangs...

Player: What are you doing that for? They beat on us and break the law and you're hanging with them?!

Sethala: Well, the ones I hang around with don't do that... I'm sure they'd never do anything like that... They're really nice people... gave me money the other day too.

Player: Yeah, sure Seth... that's just fucking lame.

Alright, I get the point, I think.

Just two things. First off, I hate any gilseller that uses MPK, kill-stealing, etc. So no, I'm not gonna help out a gilseller that I know is a MPKer.

As for hatilg gilsellers, period... it's kind of like.... hm, I can't think of a good comparison. But I understand why people hate what gilsellers are about, that buying gil isn't fair. Myself, I don't really care about if someone buys gil as opposed to getting it themselves.

Anyway, Palum, I understand why you don't like gilsellers. You don't like the idea of RMT, that's fine. So I can understand why you don't like gilsellers. I'm just saying that I don't mind RMT going on, so gilsellers don't bother me (at least, the fact that they sell gil doesn't bother me - as I've said before, I don't like the MPK bit at all).

You'd be a bit of a hypocrite to say you dislike RMT when you took money from the people doing it. Maybe that's why it doesn't bother you.

Seth, judging from what you wrote, you take a "neutral" stance when it comes to RMT, that is, you neither like nor hate RMT. But in your recent posts, you don't seem to be in that middle ground. You have tried to defend RMT as often as you could.

Why?

Of course you could throw it right back at me by asking "Why do you hate RMT so much?"

I think you know the answer already.

Well... uh...

I honestly have no clue >.>

I think it's because I try to keep a balance of sorts all the time. If I see someone attacking something, I usually step in to defend it, even if I don't really care one way or the other. So, I saw people attack RMT, and tried to balance that by defending it. I think if someone else started a post about the benefits of RMT somewhere in a month or two, and got a lot of support, I'd wind up jumping in to attack it.

Which is really bad when the person attacking it is me... every time I try to make a debate about something that I don't really care about, I wind up making both sides of the argument and contradict myself a lot...

Some people tend to forget that when they installed this game and skipped passed the user agreement, they WILLFULLY GAVE UP their freedom to do whatever the fuck they want as Ant puts it. If you violate these rules and it is discovered, you are performing an illegal act and therefore your account/IP should be banned immediately. No questions asked glllsellers are a mennace to society and deserve every bad thing that could happen to em in game. I dont give a shit how "nice" they are to you or if you know em in person. If you know em in person go punch em sqaure in the face for doing it. Im lucky that i have yet to experience EXTREME gil sellers (level 47 gets you only so far with HNM hunting), but from what ive seen and read, they need to be ignored.

As far as anyone who associates with them knowingly, they deserve the same crap the gilsellers get. If they are associated and dont know it (which would probably happen to me) then i believe they deserve forgiveness and should be calmly informed about the gilselling antics. Nuff said.

Unfortunately I do not like the idea of RMT. If you're out to get money for your efforts... I believe the rest of us have a job....

I don't go into Chuck & Cheese (or whatever kids' playground is near you), collect all the tickets and sell them to the kids so they can get those prizes they wanted to get. My friends will just monopolize the skeeball table and get all those prize tickets. Instead of ourselves using it for those Chuck & Cheese brand prizes, we will just sell them to the kids since they can't use the machine to get their own tickets and get what prizes they wanted.

This is how I'm seeing RMT work in FFXI. People who are in this game NOT to play the game, but to just take advantage of people who need the items by claiming them and selling them off to the highest bidder and then turning around to sell the gil for RL rewards. At 11:45 pm at night, this is how I'm seeing the comparison.

*sigh* I'm not even sure if that made sense

Palum, I think that's one of the most apt observations I've seen on this issue, lol. I just had to say that. ;)
