Well lately I have been leveling SAM and has been fun but it's at the point where theres hardly any tanks. Yes that's right it's in the mid 50s. This is really making me want to well quit it albeit a very fun job. I thought about hey maybe if I level NIN I'll get parties faster. Ya but then again theres the fact that your a brokeass and you don't even know how you have geared SAM. I don't know my dilemma is what should I do? SAM or NIN?

A suggestion of gear that fits a galka that is strapped for cash would be nice for both jobs. My NIN is 42, really 43 deleveled from a BCNM40, and my SAM is half way to 57.
 
id wait to see how this new update effects sam
 
If you're a "brokeass" Ninjar is certainly not the way to go. In addition to the massive cost of tools you have to invest in the three most costly gear categories, accuracy, haste and evasion. Even the Katana start getting super expensive towards the mid 50's. Every job you play is going to be dependant upon some other job to level, be it a tank, or a RDM/BRD. If you enjoy SAM, stay the course. No sense having a job at 75 that you really don't enjoy playing.
 
i wanted to say "make your own parties" when i started reading but i cought myself in time. BW is on the money though. stay with what you like. nin is fun too. but the only reason im not broke is cause im holding off on it. (50 NIN)

till you get a steady cash flow (and i use the term lightly) i say stick with sam.
 
SAM's are gonna get alot more invites after the next version update just due to curiosity about the new job abilities. Fun fun fun...even if your broke. Even if your gear is gimp...sorta. As long as your skilled and such.

I'm gonna end up testing out Hasso and Seigan after the update on my own so that I'm not trying to figure stuff out in a party.

ROFL! Got a great idea. SAM static, nothing but sams and a whm. Bouce hate back and forth and tank using Seigan. That would be killer, no?
 
Yah i've noticed a lack of tanks now too. Ok i'm only 51 but i NEVER get pts cos there are sso little tanks around now. I know that it may not come out too good as a SAM but you should maybe start going down the solo-er path while being LFP like I am at the moment! or maybe you could get your PLD it's relic gear and sell your Adaman(sp) set to gear up a NIN.

Oh btw, Romperstomper, don't be too worried about being broke, I couldn't even afford a chocobo from Jeuno to Zi'Tah earlier. I highly doubt your that low for cash XD

I've noticed a similar thing too, and my SAM is 60. I *love* the job, but sadly I never have the time to level it anymore. If you love the job, stick with it. Make a static if you can, most players tend to have a 60ish job (at least most of the longer playing ones).

Also what they said was true, leveling NIN now is a hell of a lot cheaper than it used to be. A stack of 12 Shihei bags is what...60k, 70k? When it used to be upwards of 150-200k. Plus Sushi has been going down too, which is wonderful for NIN since they focus on attack speed for damage and hate. If anything now is a great time to level NIN while it's cheap, I just hope people don't start calling it lolbandwagon.
 
My SAM isn't gimp and I stripped my PLD down to bare essentials pretty much. AF a cheap sword shield a cheap back and belt. That's how I have around 1mil floating in my gil wallet so maybe grow fire ores.

I see all the points and Hasso/Seigen make me want to stick to SAM and I can use hauby on SAM if there is enough evasion in my gear. Either way it means farming for Hauby with the current prices it looks like a few weeks of cutting if they stay at the constant 80kish.

Edit: Forgot to say I'm not bored with it. Just that with the lack of tanks except for Sookie getting PLD to 60 for CoP there arent many that ARENT in parties. I enjoy both jobs and all the jobs I have played to the levels I have them except for THF.

You know I'd really appreciate the useless hurray SAM posts not being posted. I asked for advice and most of the posts are just hugging SAM with no advice at all.

i personally say its personal preference, me i like sam, but i never get invites A) because im a taru B) i sub DRG, i have thf capped if the pt wants me to sub thf but personally i like being SAM/DRG very very very very few people understand much less see the benefits of subbing drg, and thats fine people are entitled to their opions and if i dont get an invite its my loss anyway. BUT between sam and nin, yes it can be a money issue and despite money, its really all what u like to an extent, from personal experience sam does teach u about patience
 
ya i had same problem finding tanks last night, im 60 mnk. their all either JP ONLY or afk...
 
I'd go with the job you prefer romper. There really is no reason to put weeks into leveling a job that annoys you every time you play it. If you like SAM more, then stay SAM.

I'd like to point out though that neither job is cheap. Your switching from PLD which usually gets a lot of miles out of AF and some cheap items like shield torque, knight's mantle, etc. Then gets expensive at adaman. SAM and NIN on the other had have a large cost in the mid-late 50s and it just continues on up to the end. Just thinking on my character I got Hauby and Woodsman/Snipers in the 50s and I can never really sell them back. Then in addition you need a completely different setup for WS getting Hachiman, Flame Rings, etc. If I do my SAM/NIN solo thing I grab a mix of evasion gear and the list just seems to never end.

Both jobs will take some dedication to get the gil you need, but neither one is insurmountable.

Either way I have my sub leveled for NIN from PLD. And you're right that's why I'm trying my hand with fire ores for Hauby. I have a Woodsman keyword A I don't plan to get another vener only has two less so it doesn't really matter. I've noticed the price difference I had 3.5-4mil of gear for PLD that was all around purpose for Galka. When I get 59 I'll be selling my walkure and some other things because ore wont be ready by then unless party situations just die for some reason because of no tanks and I'll be trying to make parties because newbs have failed horribly. As for SAM/NIN I doubt I'll do that because I'm sure once cannons start at 70+ there'll be a butt load of PLDs. I learned patience from 70-75 PLD and doing THF as my first job to 50+ so the patience is already there. I mean I'm sure both will end up being 75 because I find fun in both jobs. NIN is a different way of tanking than PLD. NIN is based on doing damage to hold hate along with provoke. PLD has job abilities flash etc.
