Let’s start off with the basics of WHM.

Level 75:
Healing: 276
Divine: 269
Enhancing: 230
Enfeebling: 225

with /SCH and under the effect of “Light Arts” will bring those 4 skills under 256 up to 256. So.. enhancing and enfeebling will be bumped to 256.

This means a nice bonus to slow, paralyze, and biggest part is that it adds about 4-5 to barspells. (Tiamat wut)

Also, under “Light Arts” it reduces all White Magic spells by 10% but Black Magic increases by 20%

Reduces casting time for White Magic by 10%(why i cure faster then most u gimp! <3), and increases casting time for Black Magic by 20%.

Reduces recast time for White Magic by 10%, and increases recast time for Black Magic by 20%.

With /SCH there are also benefits of “Sublimation” which drains 2 HP then stores 2 MP every 3 seconds up to 25% of the user’s MAX HP. Useful when WHM/SCH is only in a party with a BRD and no RDM because Sublimation doesn’t stack with Refresh. I know what ppl are thinking oh just /smn and get more refresh you will benefit from /sch more then ANY other subjob. /SMN is a 1tic refresh not that big of a deal.

Another benefit is the 2 charges that come with subbing SCH. Penury(-50% MP cost) and Celerity(-50% cast time/recast time). Each charge will recharge every 2 minutes but can store up to 2 charges. So a good example would be saving about 50-100 mp every 2 minutes.

Last benefit is under “Dark Arts”, dark magic will be bumped to 256 and Aspir(126 is my record!) can easily get up to 100MP per aspir also Dispel helps alot u dont get dispel with /blm or /smn!. Sleep is also available but no sleepga.

With /BLM, you get Sleep, Sleepga, Aspir(but low dark magic), Drain, Elemental seal, warp, escape and Tractor. Some would argue sleepga, elemental seal, escape and tractor is what make WHM/BLM but those should be dependent on BLMs or RDM/BLMs that are at the LS event.

Last is that both /BLM and /SCH get conserve MP.. so why /smn for 1 tic conserve mp go! So all in all start /sch! its way more usefull gratned it all has there "perks" but /sch is the BEST forwhm hands down... w/ all the mp u can save/ the faster u can cure. so if ur a whm u should sub it or ur a noob <3 bounce

p.s: U pay for ur own game.. Im not trying to tell u how to play ur jobs but when it comes to the ls/ls events we all play together and /sch can maximize your WHM potential! Hope the whms that dont /sch will /sch after u read this!

yes, /SCH is my favorite as well. However, its not the be-all-end-all sub that you can use all the time in every situation.

sub SCH is good for the situations in absence of a RDM for refresh and have a BRD in meripo (yes I have been a WHM in meripo) and even with a RDM in the party it frees up the RDM to focus on something else.

Exactly!!!! "Frees up the rdm" I dont know how many time when I been in the "Oshit" Moments and a RDM would be off sleeping or helping heal or low on mp and I would lack refresh.. /sch Is def the best sub (Of course u can /blm when ur low manning khim cerb for ES slow) But all around I wouldn't leave MH w/o /sch in any ls event =P

p.s WHM is merits are awsome I can prolly keep my taru mp better then a RDM

Even without sublimation /sch saves more mp than /blm so idk why you're mentioning rdms anywhere.

There is little reason to use anything but /sch, unless you are in a situation where you need tractor/escape or sleepga or have to keep a carby on something :P

The Penury C5's, the already reduced mana cost and casting speed, the potent Aspir in Dark arts, dispell and sublimation all compliment a whm wonderfully, especially with MP management. It is well worth the (very boring) time investment to get it to 37.

Well, now that the level cap is going up, we'll have to see if /rdm becomes the most favored subjob.

  • Pros: Convert, Refresh, Fastcast II (Faster than Arts casting bonus), and a bunch of utility spells like Gravity and Bind.
  • Cons: Lack of Arts stances means lower Enfeebling and Dark magic skill. Lower MP efficiency without Arts stance, Penury stategem and Conserve MP.

we just have to see cuz what if they dont allow us to get refresh as /rdm ort what if rdms get refresh 2.. and even if we had convert I really dont notice my self needing to convert mp each 10min so I could stick with sub but when lvl cap raises im going to VERY happy w/ more starts maybe and access to more shit like rapture and stuff we will see how it all plays out im very intrested lol but good point

Convert on Whm would be really broken. If a Whm is ever in that bad situation where they are out of Mp and used their two hour then Convert would kick ass. Like, I wish I had convert on Whm when I did that Shantotto fight. And let's not forget that even if they added a Refresh 2 a Whm with his own source of refresh would be broken in it's own right.

When these updates are added the game is going to change drastically.

You know, I was wondering... does HP loss from Convert count as damage for the purposes of Afflatus Misery? :glare:

I'm going to guess no, since it doesn't count as damage for the purposes of Campaign points, but hey, who knows?

I've never really looked at the potential that /sch brings over /blm. I CAN'T WAIT TO SWITCH

As a whm that goes /sch for serious stuff (tho I was hardcore /smn before /sch came to be..)

I love that sub, I don't know if it still will be the king after the level cap gets raised. But for now, I <3 the mp conservation features and <3 Sublimation when I don't have a rdm. It's good to be able to help yourself if there is no rdm.

I never liked subbing blm except for messing around/tele taxi'ing; I never really felt Conserve MP at all. That's why before /sch, it was ALWAYS /smn for me except for what I mentioned.

Prolly gonna push it to 50 first, then RDM..tho I hope I can do RDM with friends since I trioed it to 37. (so my party legs on it are pretty weak. Need to get them before I go for randomparties.)

Pretty sure that abilities like Convert/Refresh/Haste will be on the list of abilities that won't be allowed to be used as a support job ability. They did announce that not every ability will be accessible.

We'll have to see. They DID show a WHM converting, and there's been a translation of a interview that they would allow it. (I think they will weaken it though. But I'm worried enough that I teased one of the best RDM I know saying I'd have to take Where Not To Convert lessons from him!)

Either way, I'd STILL want /rdm for my BLM so it won't hurt. ^^

Convert from a subjob will most likely be scaled down like they did with Meditate.

As for /SCH I'm not sure RDM will replace it completely, the way I think about it people are overrating /RDM.
There's that little part of Dark and Light Arts reducing their respective spellcosts by 10%.
The added the fact that both stances give extra skill to those that cap below 256 and even raise the skills only available to the subjob to 246.
Under Dark arts with a decent Dark Magic build even HNM level mobs will give a more then decent MP return with Aspir.
Penury which saves 50% MP on your next cast, and Celerity if you need to cast something faster than any fast cast can provide!
The job traits Max MP Bonus and more important Conserve MP.
Perhaps even with the first new cap (barring the first raise is to level 80 or higher) Accession (Hastega go!).
(Either that, or Scholar won't be able to use Accession with Haste, Scholar main would be way too powerful compared to the other jobs.)

I don't think SE will be stupid enough to not give Red mage some new form of refresh spell either, which will most likely be one that overrides Refresh. (See the Regen series.)
All in all, even at level 99 I don't see /RDM's advantages outweigh those of /SCH in most situations.

I do however see /BLM making a comeback albeit situationally as at level 90+ people will get access to spells like Stun.

As I said, it's hard to tell how useful /rdm will be from ONE pic and one translated interview (which might not be translated correctly, even. I consider translation from JP to ENG as much art as science; have to preserve any jokes/humor and still not lose the meaning. I can imagine that's hard; witness the complaints about translating RPGs!) how useful it will be. /rdm might turn out to be pretty situational.

I'm all "wait and see!" tho I AM planning on taking rdm from 37 to 50. It's still the king of blm subs, who knows if it'll become good for whm too once the level cap gets raised. After the level cap raise, it'll prolly still be the king of blm subs.

Until we know for sure.. /sch all the way for me, baby ^^

/RDM will probably not give more than half HP to MP when you convert. It is very unlikely it will do full MP > HP as a SJ.

With my MP pool, that means I get 600 MP from it every 10 min. That's 60 MP saved every min, or 3 MP every 3 sec (Same as Refresh). MP-wise, it depends a lot on the situation. At least when I play on SCH, I cast spells a lot, and Light Arts save 10% MP every spell. That means a single Cure III saves you 4.6 MP. Most of the spells we rely on cost more than 30 MP, so in the long run, SCH will still save you more MP than RDM will.

SCH get another utility over RDM sub, and that is Accession and Manifestation. This means that WHM can do AoE stoneskin, AoE haste (if Haste will be stackable with it remains to be seen), AoE -na spells, AoE Regen III, AoE sleep if we have to, AoE Aspir, AoE sneak/invis, AoE Repose... This assuming Accession/Manifestation will be available as SCH sub, of course.

Basically, for WHM, the benefits of /SCH still outweigh that of /RDM. The way I see it, /SCH will only really be beneficial to SCH and BLM. And even then, I like /SCH on BLM when I can get away with not using Stoneskin, so it is a really circumstantial sub for BLM.

When people talk about RDM sub, I believe they are just thinking about how great Convert is, without considering the other factors of other subs. Yes, Convert is great, but do the calculation and you'll see yourself that you likely save more MP than what Convert gives you either way. If I main heal on RDM, I like to use /SCH sub (if Erase isn't needed) for that reason. It saves a LOT of MP, ever more than a half Convert do. Now that /SCH gives Erase as well, there is no reason for RDM to use /WHM while playing a healing role.
