Well folks, that is basically it, my time at QCDN has come to an end.
QCDN started after I was playing FFXI for a few weeks, and noticed the lack of "bonding" between players as I was used to from EQ. I thought about what could be done to fix that and decided to give message board a try, registered the domain name, set up the board, and just started mentioning QCDN in game at the AH every time I logged in, and logged out (ok ok, Easter Egg frenzy helped too).
Honestly, I never expected QCDN to become well visited, but I am glad that it did. Obviously not everything is peachy all the time, and I certainly made some mistakes along the way, but I also think that I did learn from those mistakes.
The main premise of QCDN was to be 100% ad-free, and for the QuetzalCoatl server only. QCDN never meant to compete with FFXI sites that delivered FFXI content.
I would like to thank those who donated funds to help host this site. There were quite a few of you, and generally speaking those who donated are recognized by their custom board title.
As to why I choose to let QCDN go; I am just too out of touch with FFXI anymore. I can't contribute or relate to the majority of the posts here, and I believe that someone who is active in the game would do a better job running this site.
So yes, while I am leaving, QCDN as such is staying, no worries.
I have had some talks with Pupusa for him to take over QCDN, I guess I may be open to other suggestions as well. The main issue is that QCDN is to remain ad-free. I would advise against mosing hosting companies, as my last attempt at doing so caused quite a mess, and I don't think it is worth moving hosts if that means all posts to date are lost.
The domain name is registered for another year and a few months, the current cost of running QCDN is $24.95, which includes 100 GB traffic (we are just around 10 GB per month right now), and 5 GB storage.
I know this isn't the least expensive host around, but it is reliable as far as uptime goes, and it's fast most all the time.
Well, anyway, there you have it. I don't expect my leaving will cause any changes for the users of this board. I do expect the transfer of ownership will happen within the week or so.
