Well folks, that is basically it, my time at QCDN has come to an end.

QCDN started after I was playing FFXI for a few weeks, and noticed the lack of "bonding" between players as I was used to from EQ. I thought about what could be done to fix that and decided to give message board a try, registered the domain name, set up the board, and just started mentioning QCDN in game at the AH every time I logged in, and logged out (ok ok, Easter Egg frenzy helped too).

Honestly, I never expected QCDN to become well visited, but I am glad that it did. Obviously not everything is peachy all the time, and I certainly made some mistakes along the way, but I also think that I did learn from those mistakes.

The main premise of QCDN was to be 100% ad-free, and for the QuetzalCoatl server only. QCDN never meant to compete with FFXI sites that delivered FFXI content.

I would like to thank those who donated funds to help host this site. There were quite a few of you, and generally speaking those who donated are recognized by their custom board title.

As to why I choose to let QCDN go; I am just too out of touch with FFXI anymore. I can't contribute or relate to the majority of the posts here, and I believe that someone who is active in the game would do a better job running this site.

So yes, while I am leaving, QCDN as such is staying, no worries.

I have had some talks with Pupusa for him to take over QCDN, I guess I may be open to other suggestions as well. The main issue is that QCDN is to remain ad-free. I would advise against mosing hosting companies, as my last attempt at doing so caused quite a mess, and I don't think it is worth moving hosts if that means all posts to date are lost.

The domain name is registered for another year and a few months, the current cost of running QCDN is $24.95, which includes 100 GB traffic (we are just around 10 GB per month right now), and 5 GB storage.

I know this isn't the least expensive host around, but it is reliable as far as uptime goes, and it's fast most all the time.

Well, anyway, there you have it. I don't expect my leaving will cause any changes for the users of this board. I do expect the transfer of ownership will happen within the week or so.

 Wow

I am really sorry to see you go, Sculli.

The few times that we sent PM's back and forth, were fun and entertaining. :) You are a good guy.

*Thank you for QCDN. It makes work tolerable, and has helped my FFXI gameplay TREMENDOUSLY in the sense that I have made great friends in and out of the game because of it. QCDN is a wonderful site.

YOU ROCK!!!!! Best of luck in life!

Oy Sculli, going to miss your witty replys!

Just want to say a huge thanks for making the board...I'm sure you noticed when you were recruiting for QCDN how dead and shitty most of the other Quetz boards were *cough* IGN *cough.* It's nice to actually have a sense of community on the server and has made my play time in game and my time at work (which I spend on this board) far more enjoyable!

/salute Sculli

Thanks so much and good luck!

Make sure you swing by every now and then though...

Sorry to see you go Sculli. I hope you at least come visit and remain active with us in some way. You have done a great job building us up into a community. I think the “Who have you seen” thread shows this the best. A day does not go by that I am not waving to somebody from the boards.

Thank you for starting and providing such a great forum!

Damn man...
/sigh

Well don't just disband and be done with it. Come visit, for the love of Lokkin.

So the 30 bucks I donated was good for quite some time then.
Someone else throw in a bone.

Take Care Sculli. And thanks for providing a place that was your vision.

It is much appreciated.

Thanks for setting up the boards, Sculli. You really have created a sense of community for me. I always get a thrill when I spot someone from the boards in the game, and I've received a lot of good advice here.

I'm still working my way through Pokemon Leaf Green and naming them after FFXI players. I'm naming my Mewtwo "Sculli" in your honor.

Again, thank you for the boards. Your efforts have made many a boring work hour much more bearable.

I would like to thank you as well Sculli. You did a great thing and brought a server community together. Thanks for all your hard work! I hope that your future endeavors are as successful as QCDN, (if not more :D).

Tenk

A very very very very big thank you to you Sculli. QCDN (much like Jender) has made the work day go by much faster. I love seeing people from the boards in game and have made many friends through QCDN. Thank you so very much Sculli. I'm sad to see you go.

^^ I get my site hosted by these guys. They are
capable of supporting this type of forum.
I pay about $1.24 a month. I put in about $20.00
and it lasted almost a full year of hosting (9 months .. ok).

Then the price you pay is based on total traffic.
Take your traffic and browse their site to come up with
a quote. I was VERY suspicious of this site but tried
it out because an IRL it friend mentioned it to me and
he uses it.

I hate to see you go too. I am glad this site is staying up.
Work is boring.

I've never really talked to you Sculli, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate what you've done by creating QCDN.

Never really knew you Sculli, but you seem to be a top knotch guy. I am extremely appreciative of the gift you have given the quetz server, as i spend a lot of time on these boards, and it is always an entertaining source of information. Just from reading the flameboards in the first week here alone my partying ability and in game etiquette skyrocketed. That and i have hany a person i can call on for help.

good luck man.

Good luck to you Sculli. Thank you for creating QCDN, it has much improved my overall gaming experience in FFXI. We have you to thank for giving us all a common place to state our minds to others on the Quetz server. Without this site I probably wouldn't know of a lot of the great people that are on our server. :) Thanks again Sculli. You did good.

Hate too see you go man. Good luck on anything else you are moving on too. Thank you for the boards.

Thats it, I'm heading to my hiding spot in Jugner Forest and not returning.

So many good people gone and leaving............................. both here and in-game, /sigh.
You will be missed Sculli, your contribution to Quetzie's
community is immeasurable. You have spawned many answers, many good times and many friendships through this board, and I hope you can at least feel good knowing that through the creation and upkeep of this board, you have made a major difference in the way life flows on our server.

There is not a day I dont go through Jeuno and not see a familiar name or face who calls out to me from this board. There are times I'm just hangin in my MH and get a /tell from a familiar QCDN'er who just wants to say "hi" and usually from there a new friend is made. The sense of community you have started and allowed us to mold here is much appreciated by this Samurai girl, and I will miss you tremendously.

Good luck to you in your persuits and please stop back when you can.
And once again, Thank you.

Sorry to see you go Sculli, best of luck to you in the future.......thank you so much for the great website.

<see you again!>

Quetzalcoatl has suffered another swift blow, as well as this game.....
