This has been brought up many a time before, I know, but I would like to point out one particular flaw that came to my attention when updating FFXI earlier today.
Roughly around 3:40 PM Central, I began updating FFXI as usual. This time it went faster than normal, however, once it got to about 99% complete downloading, the timer stopped at 9 seconds and 1 file to go. I remembered that if i closed the game, then pulled POL back up, it would resume like normal on the last file. This was not the case in this circumstance... How I have no idea...
Once I booted up POL again, I proceeded to make my way to the "Check Version" button. As I clicked, a message appeared saying that my update didnt finish and i need to restart FFXI.
I hesitated to follow the instructions, but I eventually gave in. So as I began uninstalling FFXI to reinstall it, I noticed some files that it asked me if I wanted to delete them. Whether SE intended on making FFXI a "Install once or your computer is fried" game, I dont know. What really steamed me was that a message came up saying windows .dll files and etc. were missing. I discarded this thinking that it wasnt much of my concern. The message repeatedly popped up and I forced myself to restart. As the dell screen popped up and went away at bootup, the message appeared again in dos... which meant I couldnt load windows... And in turn caused me to have to reinstall windows in order to get back into POL... how odd, I know.
So now about 3 hrs later, I'm sitting here with a new install of windows typing to you while SE screws up my life trying to get me to reinstall FFXI...
What a wonderful way to waste 3 hrs of my life.
