<Huh?> I don't know who you're talking to but I certainly don't bitch constantly. I rarely even post on this board. I'm pissed off cuz I can't play when I was planning to..so what is it to you? Doesn't matter cuz that's what maintenance is and I'll get over it. Don't see why this is turning into something personal. Don't like it don't read it. Doesn't affect you than GTFO...seems simple.

We don't even compare to a lot of the European nations in terms of the number of holidays.
 
Most EU holidays aren't stat days. They usually still have to work, just less hours. But yea, they tend to have more because they've been around for longer than America to accumulate them.

You seem to be missing the point, entirely.

Kiere's gripe isn't just that there is going to be maintenance and that she won't be able to play. She is stating that there is a pattern in which Square-Enix/PlayOnline tends to schedule these on days that [happen] to fall on a US holiday. Usually ones many people are off from work and school. Sure, it's not a global holiday but it's not that hard to get a calendar that states what countries have what holidays. I'd say North America makes up a HUGE percentage of the player base these days. Why can't they do it the following day?

Furthermore, she (like many others) doesn't have a whole lot of time to play. So, a day off from work and real life responsibilities would be a perfect time to do somethings in-game. It's not like she's going to have withdrawal symptoms, if she doesn't get her fix.. It just would have been nice.

Lastly, I'd like to point out how much you have accomplished in game and how little Kiere has been able to. If she had so much time on her hands to have several jobs in the 70's and completed so many missions for Sky and Sea, I doubt that she'd be complaining about a few hours of downtime. Therefor your "You can stop playing a game for a couple hours. Go outside and work on that nice pastey white skin." comment is completely hypocritical.
 
So... other countries have had maintenance on their holidays as well yet haven't posted here. That is the point I'm getting at lol.

I just find the whole thing funny.

And btw, it would only be hypocritical if I was crying about being booted off the server for a couple hours. Which I'm not.
 
I bet SE will read this thread, and totally take it into consideration next time and full heartedly change their updating procedures... soley because someone out on the internet named Kiere has posted claim about how unfourtunate her life has become due to this untimely server maintenance.

Well, even though this is on the WORLD WIDE WEB, it's generally US based website. Face it, on here, European, Asian, even Canadian players are the minority. I'm not saying you guys don't count but I am pretty sure if you DID have a message board where most (if not all) users were European and SE DID have downtime on your national holidays... You'd be a bit peeved as well and there will be negative posts about it.

Then, on the other hand if that were the case and there were NA people posting on a European site, we'd probably just say... "Meh, doesn't effect me so whatever... stfu."

I guess it's only human.:biggrin:

My point here is that you seem to have plenty of time to do things in game. She OBVIOUSLY does not. If she did, she wouldn't have made this post.

The form of hypocrisy is that you're telling her to get out more often when it seems as if you NEVER do. Hence, the mention of the in-game accomplishments.
 
Because I maximize the time played, means I spend more time playing than her? I have a job that makes me work 45 hours a week and I also have a great social life. I'm penalized because I get great EXP pts and have had statics for CoP and ZM (only too about 3 days in total to get CoP done). Please, thats rediculous. Maybe I should just sit in Lower Jeuno like some others do and chat for 5 hours before I decide to exp.

Anyway, nobody was penalizing you for maximizing your play time and getting great exp or having statics... Even with all that, it all takes time. Some have more to spare than others. Which I think is where the whole thread went a little haywire.

Sheesh Mire, you crazy :P Anyways, how's life? And anyways on topic, maintenance is only 4hrs, but will probably be extended, least there's other things to do other than FFXI.
 
You know, there maybe a reason for doing it on a holiday. I betcha there will be alot less commercial internet traffic, so it may speed downloads up a little.
