Alright, so I went to see it, I thought it was ok, not exceptional, but entertaining. I did like Rose's character (Radha Mitchell), she appeared as a very analytical person, I can appreciate that.

Ok, on to the plot questions that those who have played the games may be able to answer:
  1. I assume the citizens of Silent Hill live in different "plane of reality" or some such, and that they are not actually dead.
  2. How did the female cop manage to get in, if people can only get in if they are called from within?
  3. Why didn't the female cop go with her into the elevator instead of getting herself killed?
  4. Why were the nurses in the basement all 130lbs, busty, 6ft tall, and wearing high heels? In which hospital to I have to sign myself into to get that kind of service?
  5. Did Rose realize that she will never make it back to the real world?
  6. If the answer is YES, then when do you think she realized that?
  7. Is Sharon Alessa's daugther conceived when Alessa was raped by the janitor?
  8. I assume the male cop was allowed to leave SH nack in the day because he was on the "good" side (burned his hands while trying to save Alessa).
  9. What did Alessa feed on for 30 years in the basement?
  10. What's will happen to Alessa's mother, will she forever be trapped in SH, alone?
  11. What's the deal with the dude with the triangle on his head? That made like no sense at all...
That's about all I can think of right now.

1. Silent Hill exists (in the movie) on at least four different sections of reality. The foggy world, the darkness world, the real world, and the world as it was when Alessa died. One does not have to be dead to enter Silent Hill. I assume that was a mistake, considering Alessa did kill them.

2. Silent Hill is not a ghost town. It’s headed by a singular force. That force, in the movie, being represented by the small demon-like child. My theory is because Cybil has been inside Silent Hill before, and she also had a small interaction with Sharon.

3. That’d be butch-bravado there. She was so touched by the story of Rose searching for her child and the truth that she was willing to die for it.

4. The monsters of Silent Hill always represent something from the psyche of people inside it. If you take a look at the Bleeding-Eye’d nurse, she’s very beautiful and very busty (at least when not bleeding from her eyes). Alessa has fond memories of this woman, and Silent Hill reacted accordingly: creating the Nurse Monsters.

5. She made a pact with the devil in order to get her daughter back. If she didn’t know then, she knows now. She’s probably slightly insane at best.

6. More than likely she doesn’t know anything at the moment. She’s seen hell. Notice the blank stare in her eyes when she finally gets home. You’d think she would still act that way if she noticed something was wrong? No. She’s completely bonkers after the ending.

7. No. Alessa was too small to conceive a child when she was raped. Sharon is actually the only goodness that existed in Alessa after the burning. The Reaper (or whatever you want to call it) hid the child.

8. Not only was his kindness that allowed him to live, but I believe that the actual burning of the town happened after Alessa was admitted to the hospital.

9. She didn’t feed. She lives in Silent Hill. Things don’t function as normal as they would/should.

10. More than likely she’s trapped in Silent Hill for the rest of all eternity.
It’s either that or hell. Although she turned Alessa into the wicked cult, she still was a kind mother and even went for help after she saw what happened to Alessa. It’s said that “not even the darkness wants her.” Alessa actively does not allow her mother to descend into hell.

11. Pyramid Head is basically fan service. In Silent Hill 2 he is the main antagonist, opposing James Sunderland. He represents the evil within James (shown many times raping mannequins and the monsters of Silent Hill). He’s modeled after the Civil War executioners that worked in Silent Hill during the war. He happens to be the most popular character in the Silent Hill story, monster wise.

I need to go see this movie. I've never played any of the games, will this make it so I don't know what's happening? :O

I have played the games but not seen movie going to see it or this other movie on B-day so dont spoil it

aight as silent hill does work on diff dimentions. but i dont know about the 4 it more like 3 to my point of view.

the first being the normal world, the on that chris and the detectives are running around tru out the entire movie.this is the dimension in which the event that tainted silent hill and gave birth to the other plains happen in.

the 2nd world the foggy world the one in which ash constantly falls from the sky, and has a that low visibility and lack of detail which give it a dream like world which is nor here nor there kidna mood.this is the world that the main charater run around in, and the world in which i think you only enter if allyssan allow you to. you ask how cybil got in, well in the film she play a key role a guarding type role for rose, also when they burn her if she wasnt there sharon would have been first not cybil. this is also the world in which act like a nuetral kinda zone allysan power in this plain is limited. this is kinda purgatory kinda plain.

the 3rd plain/world is the dark realm.I think this realm is the absolute manifestation of Alessa's suffereing. Everything peels and flakes away like ashes and burth flesh, which is the way she die. in this world allysan has absolute contorl and anyone caught in it is subject to allysan judgment.

the 4th world which alyada say the one where alyssan die in is the rl world just in the pass it not in itself a diff plain or anything it just the rl world in the pass.

as for silent hill not being a ghost town it is and isnt. the ppl that hide in the church are dead it proven they die in the same fire that alyssan die in and alyssan herself is a ghost. sient hill is many things it world in which souls are judge and punish for pass action, it also a type of purgatory as it was in part 2 for james, also silent hill is hell for some ppl.the thing i dont agree with is that it headed by a 1 evil force which is not take for instance the church, they manage to hide there and alyssan had no power there.reason why she needed rose. and i think proves that there more than 1 power at work in silent hill.

question 3 like part 2 it can be said that it pre plan by allyssan. cybil beign a cop and all and rose being in need.this really cna be view in many diff way and there really no right or wrong.

4 alyada got 100% correct.

5 Did Rose realize that she will never make it back to the real world. see about that the thing is allyssan needed rose to gain her revenge which she accomplish.rose even told the ppl in the church she was dead and so forth. i dont think she realize she was not gonna make it back. due to the fact of allyssan influence on her. even at the end she goes home and all but only cuz allyssan allow it hence you see the fog with them both and so forth. basically because she sided to get her daughter back and allyssan and sharon became 1 whole being. she made the choice to be with here in the gray world without her even realizing it. allyssan basically let her go home in her a diff plain the gray world to keep her new mother to herself and out of the influence of other so she cna have her to herself.(remember allyssan old mother was influence by others)alyssan only let her go home to keep her happy and in a way she seem to made her foget about chris.

everything it explain very well. anyways that my point of view's.

what make silent hill so good is that it a mind trip. nothing ever is what it seem, it very personal story line it diff to everyone everyone see it diff. same thing with the games/movie^^.

If the movie does the games justice i'ma have to pass on them, sadly ... cos i'm a wuss.

played the demo ... beating demon fetuseses with a iron pipe was a bit too far for me.

I was surprised by how good the movie was, but I think you probably have to be a fan of the games to fully understand and appreciate it. There were slight changes here and there - and they could have left the husband/father out completely (the studio made them put his scenes in because they didn't want a video game/horror movie where all the leads were female) - but for the most part they got it right, and it looked damn good and creepy too. All the happenings at the church - the final conflict, Pyramid Head's earlier appearance - will probably get a thumbs up from Clive Barker if he sees them. And as always, Silent Hill is deliciously Lovecraftian. Not everything that tries to be Lovecraftian works, but the games and this movie have done an excellent job of mimicing that overall sense of doom, isolation and misshapen beasts that go bump in the night. These games and his stories have been the only things to make me scared of the dark when I'm fully enveloped in them.

If Alessa needed Rose, and if Alessa is the one that controls everything that happens during the darkness period, why did the pyramid head dude try to kill Rose and the female cop? Seems counter-productive from Alessa's point of view.

Alessa doesn't control any of it.

Alessa was burned alive at the hands of a maniacal sect. While in the burn ward, she befriended a nurse. Soon after that her hate grew so strong that it called the very essence of evil (which appears to her in the form of herself). It offers Alessa the chance to recieve her revenge, Alessa gladly accepts. Silent Hill was set ablaze through a coal accident. Alessa and the rest of the people she sought revenge on were pulled into the foggy/darkness realms of Silent Hill. A piece of Alessa remained in the real world, now in the form of a child, who is later picked up by Rose and named Sharon.

Unfortunately for the Evil and Alessa, the remaining survivors take refuge inside the church. Their fanaticism keeps the darkness from ever entering the building. That is why when their presence is felt outside of the church, the darkness overwhelms the town, turning it into Hell.

Inside Hell it's all downhill. The monsters act on their own, they attack whoever they please. Pyramid Head has one prime directive, punish the sinners. Anyone in Hell is a sinner to him, and he goes at it. Although it is counter-productive from Alessa's main goal, she's been picking off survivors for thirty years. Whether or not they fail in keeping Rose and Cybil alive isn't of much importance. They will still exact their own sense of justice regardless. All they have is time in Hell.

Sculli clearly outlined that there would be spoilers in the thread. Next time read before you start looking at a thread. Oh, and your signature should read: "I wish the grass was emo so it would cut itself." Having "it self" makes absolutely no sense if the sentance was to be taken out of context.

Didnt the cop die when she was burned in the church? not when she was beaten down by those things.?

Yes, but regardless, if she had gone with Rose down the elevator, she wouldn't have been beaten or burned, considering that she is not a sinner (I suppose).

Unfortunately you're right. In the game Cybil doesn't die. However, she sacrificed herself for a human, and was killed by humans. No otherworldly aspect right there. It goes to show how quickly a charismatic person can just point a finger and people will follow. I think it says a lot about the world today, in fact.

I think that's my point, meaning that her sacrifice was meaningless at that time in the plot. The plot wouldn't have changed for Rose at that time had Cybil just entered the elevator with her. There was no purpose in staying behind, other than to get Cybil out of the plot for the purpose of the movie.

If you play through the first game and pay attention, not just to the cutscenes, you will fully understand the movie and the deminsions Silent Hill works around. I'm not going to tell you anything because you need to play the games but so far I have read four deminsions and three deminsions...both are wrong. Play Part one at least :p

your thinking, why would the Pyramid Heads and Cinder Children and Nurses and whatnot attack Rose if Alessa needed her help? There could be several explainations. For one, they could be there to test Rose to see if she has the mettle to do what Alessa needs her to do. It could also be that some part of her is addicted to the rage and pain and anger and wants to stop Rose. Another theory - and the one that I tend to find most plausible - is that Alessa has suffered for so long that she simply cant control her rage and hatred. It simply lashes out without mercy in any way possible. However, I believe that Alessa really wanted Rose to help her and know the truth and was therefor able to eventually get it under control, even for a little bit. Did you notice the the Dark always seemed to fade just when Rose was pleading her hardest for it to stop?

Unless there is SH for the PC (too lazy to check atm) it's not going to happen. I don't own any consoles anymore, and I don't think I will buy one just to play SH.

and that all that you said means what? the dimension silent hill works around? first off noone really know that but the ppl who made the games. in almost all silent hills games with the exeption of 1 and 3 silent hill itself is changer new aspect to the story is added.and unlike you im not gonna say "im not gonna tell you go play the game." that a cheap answer. if we are wrong please tell us why.

part 1 and the movie.
Both the movie and the first game are grounded in the premise that a young girl (Alessa), was badly burned and her torment manifested by twisting the reality of Silent Hill into the nightmarish reality portrayed in the movie.

In the games, the reason behind her burning was that it was part of the ceremony used by the mysterious cult in Silent Hill to bring about the rebirth of their god, who Alessa would be the mother of. Dahlia is directly responsible for willfully burning her daughter. Alessa actually survives the burning and lives on in an unhealing state, induced by Dahlia and a fellow cult member who is a doctor. Though not stated outright, it's implied that the combination of her torment, the natural power she posesses as the 'mother of god' and some rare, powerful drug produced in Silent Hill combine to allow her nightmares to twist reality.

There are four possible endings in the orignal game, and my impression is that the movie has an ending that would be seen as the 'bad' ending from the game. Cybil is posessed and you're forced to kill her, and Alessa becomes posessed by the 'god' that she births and you're forced to kill her as well. Despaired over his loss, Harry does not esape the hell of Silent Hill, and the game ends on a shot of Harry dead behind the wheel of his car. The parallel I'd draw here is that Cybil is obviously killed, and Rose does not really save her daughter, but just helps Alessa get her revenge.

The best ending is Cybil survives, the 'god' that Alessa gives birth to is prevented from posessing her, and can be killed safely, letting Alessa 'reincarnate' one more time as a baby, which Harry and Cybil take with them away from Silent Hill. The best ending leads to the sequel, Silent Hill 3, where the daughter is now older and the cult is trying again to have her give birth to their god. The implication is that Harry definitely survived his experience in Silent Hill, and is back in the 'real world'.

Silent Hill 2 and 4 are set in or tied to Silent Hill, but are not directly tied to the story in 1 and 3. However, a lot of the monsters from 2 were used in the movie. In 2, the idea is that Silent Hill's power goes beyond Alessa's condition. The place has the power to manifest a person's inner demons, with a lot of the monsters being symbollic of the main character's guilt over his relationship with his wife. in part 2 new aspect of the game come into play, there no allyssan yet silent hill still has both the real the foggy and the outworld the 3 realms mention ealier.

then part 4 introduces a new aspect to the entire story line. the main character in silent hill 4 henry lives in South Ashfield, a town half a day's drive away from Silent Hill. in this game we get to see a diff spin on the entire allyssan thing with a serial killer name walter who he himself has the same dimension creating ability as allyssan. which once again give prove to the entire diff dimensions. in this game you also start to notice the influence of silent hill itself on the out side world. which now changes the entire concept of the game. in part 4 you dont even have to be in silent hill to be consume by it evil. The themes in the 4th game are very tightly tied to motherhood and birth, in the way that the 2nd is tied to masochism.

so saying go play atleats the first 1 is a dumb comment the movie itself is base on all aspect of silent hill. they involve alot of the demons and concepts from part 2 and when PH come out and touches the wall that red stuff thingy that spread about that taken diretly from part 4. the only game which doesnt really influnce the movie much is part 3.

like i said earlier what make silent hill story line so great is that silent hill itself is still a mystery. yes we do learn something about the town but then, it completly changes/new info is giving out which explain pass event but bring about lot of new possiblity's. the games are 1 of my fav because that fact it leave alot of room for your own interpretation of what going on and so forth.
