As the title says, It's pretty straight forward.

How do you skill up your Puppets Skills?

Ranged I do in PT.

Magic I do soloing/campaigning

Melee I also do somewhat in PT but it doesn't level as quick.

My melee is very gimp and I was wondering if ya guys could help me out a bit =D

Ive ignored my RA auto for a very very long time but ive kept the other 2 at cap ... or i try to atleast. SE keeps pissing me off when they raise the cap each time... hopefully they dont do it again, lol

With melee, I kept it capped while doing sky events, now im basically stuck in same predicament as you cept its my RA, sitting at 200... just need to figure out how to improve it lol

Solo EMs, get that Eva gear ready.

I need to desperately get my ranged puppet's skill up, as it is severely under cap (by 50 or so). To skill it up, I would assume, you need to go to zones that are around that cap area (where you'd generally xp.) and skill up there, yes? I don't know exactly how it works, but I generally hop on BRD/PUP and skill up that way (though haven't done it in a while). Anyone know if /PUP is a slower skill-up method than PUP main? Or does it not matter?

When you sub /PUP, it only allows you to activate your automaton at level 37 (Assuming you're level 75). So you can skill him up to the cap at 37, but after that you gotta do it either in party or on the EM stuff that PUPs can solo.
Heck, join a skill up party. They're for robots too!

I'm only 26 pup right now, but wouldn't camps you'd solo merit in count as mobs that you could potentially skill up off of?

I'd assume yes. Right now, I was skilling up my puppet's ranged attack in the dunes on mobs that I originally was soloing back in the day, and though a tad slow, I was getting consistent skill ups. I was trying to steer clear of using Drum Magazine because of the decrease in accuracy, and tried to let Scope do its magic. Hmmm.

Couldn't scope level out the acc decrease you'd get from drum magazine?

I don't use it...I personally try and keep two wind Maneuvers up, with Turbo charger and Scope, and then either a fire or thunder maneuver depending on where my Automaton is standing.

Fire for melee range and thunder for further? I'm a noob w/ pup so I'm trying to learn as much as I can about it.

Damn you hit with your fricken turbo charger >.<

well Thunder increases Dex which helps acc for the automaton, so sometimes if ya have it close enough to melee the mob, then I'd use a thunder maneuver. if it's out of range then a Fire for extra damage =D.

Well I know that each maneuver gives +1 to whatever stat its associated with. That's still interesting though.

At later levels, Drum Magazine is great because the puppet's accuracy is already good enough for ranged.

The only reason why Thunder Maneuver would affect accuracy is due to Target Marker/ Stabilizer(s)(I & II). Turbo Charger also doesn't affected the rate of ranged attacks, only melee attacks.

You still get more out of just leaving drum off, because the weaponskills that the (rng) puppet uses are very important for it's DMG. You WILL notice a huge increase of misses on AP or Daze with Drum on.

Really? Heh, interesting. I suppose I'll work out a personal parse to see the percentages. I suppose then, with that interesting note in mind, you'd only use Drum Magazine against low evasion mobs. I knew the Drum Magazine overtook the enhancement of the Scope, but didn't know that it was that much of a disparity.

Do you ever use Drum Magazine? Or is it simply not worth it in party situations? I mean, other than being situational, is it any good? Wasn't even thinking about the accuracy down it would give to Daze and such. Though I would presume that tp-gain wouldn't be a problem if the puppet is within melee range?

I use it for farming, I also tried it on a Great Colibari party.

The issue about it is, SS has a low hit/DMG rate from melee with it's C+ melee skill. Shots and WSs are a large help for it's DMG, which is why you cannot really lose Acc on Ranged. Also, it's ranged has better DMG upclose, so you'll want it to melee anyway. Buuuuuuut I'm sure if you find something to fight that doesn't have high eva, you could squeeze it in, I suppose, although I would never use it for anything over T unless you have ranged merits.

I'll have to try it again sometime, but it's not likely to get a merit with PUP when I have COR and BRD :|

I just hit PUP75 last weekend, so I had to max out skills too. ^^

I was trying to just to slowly get skill while soloing Lesser Colibri, but it was kinda slow considering how fast they were dying.
I went out to the Tree with my SMN lady and took my H2H from 221 to 225, and I had Hikozaemon setup with Red Turban/Stomwaker. He had 206 skill, and after an hour~1.5 hrs was up to 220... I think. Ended up leaving at 226. Automatons are just like us when it comes to skills, you just gotta find a skill range to take them to different zones.

If anyone needs a partner up in the tree or anywhere else, look me up I'll be happy to help out.
