Slapping is offensive to some people. Poking is not. Both are just emotes. Make a fist with your thumb, pointer finger and pinky finger extended, and it means love. Make a fist with your middle finger extended, and it means ****. But both are just hand gestures. It makes no sense, right? It's the meaning of the gesture that matters. Sure, you and your friend might have an understanding that an extended middle finger means hello, but that doesn't mean you can do so in class and not get in trouble.
