Hello hello,

I was seeking for a few hours last night, then I got bored, and decided to pass the time killing Lesser Colibri for a little bit of exp and a few Beastman Seals.

There were too many other people soloing the Colibri much, much better than I was, so I decided to give up. I figured, since I had nothing better to do, I'd try my hand at the Maat fight, despite only being level 68.

I went in, buffed up, and charged into battle.

Two minutes later, I got stomped. I want to lie and say I put up a good fight, but I lost so embarrassingly quickly, that lying about it would only make me feel worse.

I found a SMN Maat guide on FFXIclopedia/whatever its called, but I still failed.

Can those of you who have been successful in thwarting Maat as a SMN give me some advice? Thanks.

I think I beat Maat at 68..not to brag. Do not fear though!!

Well you didn't explain really what you did..but this is what I did.

Items you want: Yag drinks, ether (2..or 3..if you fail or something lol)

I went in, buffed with Stoneskin and Blink, then I got close enough to see what avatar Maat was using. Whatever avatar he has out, summon the one that Maat's avatar is weak to. Go in then 2 hour.

The 2 hour SHOULD kill Maat's Avatar.

Run all the way back to the entrance, then resummon another avatar (it doesn't matter, mainly because you wont have time to find out the new summon Maat pulls up, I would summon Fenrir though) 2 hour again, that should kill Maat, or leave him almost dead. Have Fenrir keep attacking if he's alive..and you should win!

That sounds monumentally easier than what i tried to do. I'm gonna try and get another testimony and try again some time this week.

He didn't Astral Flow you to death? His Judgement Bolt Killed my ass.

I did the almost the same thing he did. But at lvl 66. 2 Ethers. And the 2nd avatar I summoned was the element of the day. (Titan - Earthday)

Watching other people is a good help too.

No..you have to be quick, let off your astral flow bloodpact and get the fuck out lol.

I didn't get Astral Flowed on..did you wait or something for him to 2 hour you? *shakes finger*

The only damage I took was Maat punching me.

I did it twice, the first time was a learning exercise just to see how Maat was, then I did it for real the second time. I did the buff yourself, summon avatar of the day's element and send it at him, astral flow, gtfo and resummon, AF again, win strategy.

The first time, when I lost, I learned a couple of things that helped me win second time. Firstly Maat runs VERY fast, you have to run a LONG way away to resummon or he'll kill you before youre done. Secondly, be careful when he comes at you after resummoning, you have to be fast doing your second astral flow, or he'll get one off. When I did it my first time, I took too long in getting my avatar onto Maat, and by the time I was going for my Astral Flow macro, I'd been Diamond Dusted to buggery.

Other than that, buff yourself well beforehand, if you have a light spirit, get high lvl protect and shell from it, and bring a suitably large ether to get the mp needed for your second AF back.

On thing I did on my Maat fight was, after you AF him, let your Avatar and Maat have it out, by the time your avatar dies, your AF timer should be just about ready.

Just make sure you rn back to the entrance of the BC. As soon as your avatar drops, resummon. Maat will either resummon otw to you, or summon when he gets to you. So when you see him, just AF him again. That should be the end of the fight. IF not just repeat.

SMN has the Maat fight way easier than alot of jobs. Just stick w/ it. It's not hard. Just try o get your meds in while maat is busy killing your avatar. Don't wanna try to do that w/ his avatar out and on you. That = Maat's AstralFlow, which usually = death to you.

let the av do all the work, stay as far away as you can at all times so u can resummon.. just remember GTFO. canni hit it on the nose though, he has learned well as an apprentice lol.

bitch...please..I was born with natural summoner skill..ok not really I looked it up on sites..but pff *snaps his fingers*

I did forget to mention though but everyone else said it, to keep your avatar out after you AF him. If you desummoned = BAD BAD BAD!

Fuck. Ass. Balls.

Neyla helped me get another test, and died helping me, and I failed again.

I had it in the bag, but apparently i wasn't standing far enough away when I was summoning for my second Astral Flow.

I hate you Maat. I seriously hope you get prostate cancer and die.

Hit me up when you want to get a new test. I could show you some soloing stuff too for Smn that might help a bit.

How far are you running away? You go all the way to the other wall at the entrance.

I was as far as I was the first time I tried the fight. It was far enough that time.

I was just running through Wajoam to pl my brother for a bit, when I got aggro and died for the third time today.

I'm so pissed off right now I could walk up to every kid in the neighborhood and tell them Santa isn't real.

LIKE MELEEING?

Not a whole ton of help but since perpetuation cost is free when Astral Flow is up, having Earth Staff on will help if Maat gets in a few swings on you. I'd recommend Garuda or Titan since their buffs allow them to take a few more hits before engaging, but since you're only 68 you may needto prioritize the enemy avatar's elemental weakness in order to 1-shot them.

Also, since you're just doing Astral Flow -> Ether -> Astral Flow, scrap any HP->MP gear you may have on. On the contrary, packing some +hp gear (i.e. BQ ring, if you have one) instead may help you survive a bit longer if it comes down to a close fight.

Rule #1 dont listen to Mystic

Rule #2 dont listen to lime ca.....i mean Myrrh

Rule #3 dont listen to mystic or myrrh.

follow those rules and you'll be just fine. :) (waits for ninja edit by the dynamic duo of gimp smn's :P )

but seriously all you need to do is work on your timing. you seem to have the stratigy down other then that. maat is a (bio)tch no matter what job you go as.

Or just get to 70 and predator claws x3 him while you browse internet porn in another window. Seriously, he's that easy.

But if you must go the pre-70 route:

Items: tav taco, reraise, yagudo x2,some hi either (enough to get your MP=Lv*2 two additional times, plus maybe an extra or two), blink band

Start: Enter the BC, get up your food, aerial armor and earthen ward, reraise. (additionally, you can have light elemental buff you with protect and shell 4 if you think you'll have extra time and know how to control their buffs, but not necessary)

2nd: Run up to ramp before the arena portion where Maat is. Summon your avatar (titan or garuda really do best if you prebuff them prior to heading in without releasing). Use astral flow. Inch your way up as close as you can to maat without aggroing him, send in avatar and let pet take hate. Run up next to maat and use 2hr spell making sure to keep pet and maat next to each other. Run back to the start. Rebuff with blink band if need be, use mp restoring items.

At this point maat should have roughly 40% HP.

3rd: Check your pact timers on next damage BP. When it's up, dismiss avatar and call another (anything should be fine, but go day of the week or fenrir). Use astral flow again using above method (make sure you aren't running maat away from your pet upon using pact).

4th: ???

5th: Profit.

Ya okay there gimpy Mcgimpinton. That's your new name now. Gimpy McGimpinton.

I honestly wouldn't recommend Hi-Ethers unless you know your avatar would remain alive for a long time, and this certainly isn't one of those cases. More times than not the 10-second delay of using just one Hi-Ether (not to mention the 5 [...10?]s of "unable to do anything, lol" afterwards) is well more than enough for your avatar to die, the mob to reach you and pretty much bend you over the railing.

You can just ask about any high-level Alchemist to help you make some Ethers, they're much cheaper to make than to buy and you can pop 2-3 much faster than you can pop one Hi-Ether.

*edit* Spaced it out, but there's an alternate (albeit semi-annoying to pull off) trick you can do - if you get to @500XP or less, you can pop an XP scroll which will make you level up and restore all your MP. This is also useful if you've happened to take a few hits and are unsure if your HP is at a safe amount to last the rest of the fight. Dragon Chronicles (500-1000xp) are quicker use but Miratete's Memoirs (500-1500? I've honestly never seen them give under 750...) are typically easier to obtain, but either works for this.
