So, FFVIII?

ya.. Rinoa sucked :\ Rinoah is fine but Rinoa.. blah

Laguna, Kirros, and Ward are awesome. And out of the original characters, I'd say Squall and Irvine are two of my favourites.

I love FFVIII. First time through I didn't like the junctioning system, but I didn't use it correctly that time. I used the magic I junctioned a lot. I'm playing through it again now and am enjoying it. Just got to disc 2.

My problem with all the post-6 FF games is that they seem to be full of teenieboppers, and 8 is the worst offender. I think it has to do with all the 'mass-market' attention the series began to receive after 6, the last real FF game.

I'd say FF really picked up at FF7. Others might argue.. but I think it did. Not saying FF6 didn't have a key role in getting some people set in the FF world and so they told others and such...but I think FF7 was where it picked up in sales and story and characters and music (though.. FF6 had a LOT of good music and characters and story too XD). And since FF7 been up and down over the years.

Beating Diablos as Laguna, Kiros, and Ward was my favorite moment in the game. :P Certainly put an interesting twist on the fight, not having any of the main characters good limit breaks to use. I <3 Desperado though, had nothing on most of Squalls breaks, but just looked awesome.

I was like "Wah, Magic Lamp? I didn't realize it was a usable item, wonder what.... it... does...*techno battle music*"

I totally feel your pain, boss. FFVIII was all right, I beat it about 3 times.. like ffvii I have a copy for both my ps and my computer ~_~ FF dork right here! Although, I could of done without Rinoa.. she just kinda annoyed me :)

Definately my fave FF game. I've beat it about 3 times now and absolutely love the junction/guardian force/leveling system in that game. The bad guys leveled in proportion to how you leveled which made it awesome to walk into a dungeon and not have to run away with your tail tucked between your legs and level for another 4 hours.

I'm in love with squall's personality, the whole "I've been burnt too many times to even want to give a shit about people" I can really identify with. I feel it had some of the most fleshed out characters in the FF series and by far the best FMVs and ending. That ending left nothing to be desired.

The art neavou architechture was absolutely beautiful and it definately sports my fave soundtrack out of the seires. I mean come....you have a sword and a gun rolled into one, how can you go wrong?

Final Fantasy VIII nearly takes last place on my numbered-Final Fantasy (as in not stuff like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - which even MQ ranks higher) list. It really isn't that great.

The battle system is extremely flawed, and with a little bit of thinking on the player end, this game's Junction System is more broken than Final Fantasy VII's materia system multiplied by that of Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid. Leveling up in this game is basically stupid because the monsters level up with you - if you don't level up, but get your GFs to be really great, you'll be a god. You can get Squall's ultimate weapon from playing Triple Triad before you even get really far into the game. How fun is that?

The story in this game is absolutely horrible. It takes forever for it to get anywhere, and it is about a bunch of teenagers. No offense, but most games that revolve around characters that are ages 16-20 are usually almost as bad as watching MTV. Wow, what creative characters - we went from having the Chainsaw wielding Edgar from Final Fantasy VI to having an emo kid with a sword. I will admit that Irvine was pretty cool, though.

Unless you like playing a boring card game over and over again, drawing magic from enemies until you have 100 of whatever you want (trust me, this takes a while), or reading boring dialogue, I don't think you'll like this game very much. The only good things about this game is the soundtrack and Irvine.

Dear Antor:

Every Final Fantasy after 6 has used teens/young adults, with a grizzled mature character backup(Barret/Cid, Laguna, Steiner, etc.)

I'd still like a game about the exploits of Laguna. :(

It didn't work for Yazoo though. :?

I kinda agree with you. If the world was threatened, we all know damn well it's not gonna be a bunch of teens saving it.

The reason I see the recent Final Fantasy's being full of teen characters, is because of the demographic the Playstation was aiming for. Remember, they came up with the idea that it was hip and cool to play video games, and so targeted their sales towards the age bracket that believes life revolves entirely around popularity: The High School crowd.

And that might explain why I don't like them very much. Also, if you look at the age range I gave, that'd exclude all but two characters from FFVII (Aeris and Yuffie).

eh, imo, 20 isn't quite adult. :?

Is it really that hard to read? And by US law, adult is 18, so... yeah. Squall is what, 17?

EDIT: Just realised Aeris is a bit older than I thought she was, reducing my original list to one person.

Again. just because by law you're an adult, doesn't give you the decision making skills of one. And vice versa.

And Boy Band members are usually 24ish.

So would you rather have a character under "18"(again, this is fiction) with the brain power of Dougie Howser, or a band of characters with the personality of a cardboard cut out like the Backstreet Boys saving the world?

And they're marketed towards teenagers. Do you even read the crap you post? I didn't once say the game should feature adults, rather I posted an age range that I don't particularly like. Also, it doesn't matter if they're adult in your opinion because guess what - by definition, you're wrong. It's not debatable. There's some 12-year-olds who are more mature than 98-year-olds and vice versa; maturity != age.

Cloud is 21, Tifa is 20, Aeris is 22 (and by far much more mature than the cast of FFVIII), Barret is 35, Red XIII is 45, Cid is 32, Cait Sith is a ShinRa employee (making him probably above the age 25), Yuffie is 16, and Vincent is 27. This puts the age range at 16-45, with the average age being about 28, not including Cait Sith. Last I checked, 28 is bigger than 20.

so ya..FFVIII was bad.
