So... has OB made you change your mind on what you want to play?

<snip>
I'd say my biggest complaint is how there is zero storage space available. When multiple crafts, jobs, gear is encouraged, having only 80 inventory space doesn't quite cut it. I hope to see some kind of storage feature at release. I don't want to just have to sell stuff I'd want to keep.

Temp fix is to hire a bunch of retainers and dump unused tools and equipment onto them because they also have 80 slots. Hope SE implements something like the MH, cause having your own "home" to go to is something I miss in FFXIV.

It changed my mind about starting off RIGHT AWAY on FFXIV. I think I might give it a month or two before I actually start playing. I was so excited to get to play the OB, but that excitement quickly waned when I got lost in Limsa Lominsa......

Let me tell you, my favorite part of this game is not knowing and getting lost all the time. What a thrill! I don't know the game like the palm of my hand and loving every second of it.

So far. I REALLY like what I'm able to do. I've shifted gears from how I played FFXI into how I play FFXIV... I plan to play casually and hardcore when I have lots of free time to myself.

My biggest annoyances were the patch downloads and early OB server response times. I would get ALL this speed the it would just time out but tonight I downloaded the patch and it was done with in about 6 minutes.

Also for those that are accustomed to using a keyboard to target: Get a controller. It will only make playing the game and navigating so much easier. I only use the mouse ever so often to pick something.

The server lag has improved a lot in terms of response time. I'm sure that the connection status icon will be all greens once retail comes. One thing I know is that while we are playing they are already planning the retail patch that we'll all have to spend all night trying to download (I have collectors so...yeah...my computer will be busy :P).

As far as game play goes: I'm still going to play. I'll more than likely stay a Elezen with the same name. I'm torn between a lot of jobs but I haven't decided on a main. I wanted to break away from magic cause that was my entire career on FFXI. I really like the point allotment system that lets me modify my attributes like the FFXI merit system (FYI - Piety is Magic ACC). One thing that I found interesting is that Mind controls my Max MP. I also like the elemental resistance options and how your job level and physical level kinda have to coincide to get the most out of them.

I really Really REALLY like the fishing system. I plan to do that and maybe weaver as a craft. I like trying a little bit of everything so I might be spending my first month just trying to decide what I want to do before going hardcore into other things.

First of all, I must say I am a very jealous monkey for those of you playing Open Beta. Second of all, if you wouldn't mind I have a question to ask - who has tried Pug and liked it? Pugilist looks very fun to play on the videos I've seen on Youtube..does race matter in this game on what job you choose? (i.e. Taru's INT ideal for BLM on FFXI). I know it's still beta..was just wondering if you guys have noticed anything significant.

I wish they would do a PS3 beta soon..the countdown is on..6months left for PS3..if it doesn't get pushed back

You know, about the 8 hours exp a week only thing, the problem I see with that is that someone who starts later won't ever catch up with people :( they should either scrap it or maybe do something like a counter that keeps track of the weeks passed since release and multiply that by 8 hours and that's how long you get from when you join so basically you always have the total time allowed to level compared to others no matter when you joined. Though, I guess it won't matter in the end if they have an end game (from what I'm told FFXIV has none yet, but I don't really know of any MMO that was ever released with a full end game).

what I've heard people saying about PUG is like this... "omg pug is insane! Its like perma 100fists." ... just sayin

Its a common mistake that those lemental points are elemental resistance - its not. Its ellement affinity. If you increase your Fire Affinity, you not only get increased resistance to that element, you'll also do more damage from spells like Fire.

@Seteyu Thanks that torrenting guide was really handy. Was able to get the patch downloaded in 3 hours instead of like 16.

Also the directions for vista/7 were the same. The file paths, everything.

I mentioned the file paths may be different because I was creating a loophole and therefore covering my ass. :)

Cheers~

That makes more sense. I was wondering why my Water spell was killing mobs in one shot or depleting half their HP in one cast.

PUG is my main, and I have to say I absolutely love it. I'm able to tank / backup tank as needed, and I do decent damage. PUG is quite evasive, so it's more like the evasion tank where as GAL is the physical tank. We get an array of cool abilities, as well as our very own self-healing moves which heals a nice portion and you can use it rather frequently. I've tried most of the jobs, and this one really just sticks out as the most fun to me. And I'm combining PUG with some awesome skills from THM. Right now, I have Punishing Barbs, which I can use every 5minutes. Whatever damage I sustain gets shot right back at the enemy! I love the move :)

And race doesn't matter one bit. They're a slight variance in starting stats. But as you get xp, there are two types. Physical Level and Skill Level. Skill level is basically the same as your level in XI, as it goes up, you get stronger / get more abilities and points to equip various abilities. Your Physical level goes up seperatley. Usually every level, you get b/w 6-8 points to alot to STR,VIT,DEX,MND,INT,PTY (Piety). If you don't like the way you arrange them, or want to go more mage heavy vs melee heavy for the time being, you can switch a portion of those points to other stats by reassigning them.

Shame that torrent thing didn't work for me on Windows XP :( I should really upgrade to 7, but I've been so lazy about backing up my stuff and whatnot. I don't like "updating" my OSes. I like wiping the HD that holds the OS stuff and other stuff and reinstalling fresh :P

But ya, not sure why the torrent option didn't work :|

When you install Windows 7 over an XP installation, the entire contents of your old partition are stored in a file called Windows.old.

ya I don't like doing that. I never like updating an OS or installing an OS over a prior one :P I like to wipe the drive my OS and other programs are on and reinstall fresh.

Anyways, finally got it done XD

yeah, OB makes me want to play a different game.

Grudgingly agree. I was hoping that FFXIV would be a good stop-gap until The Old Republic comes out next year, but as of this weekend I uninstalled the OB after about 30 hours of gameply and re-installed my Warhammer Online client, which I haven't touched since August 2008. The things that put me over the top for not picking this game up were the excessive copied & pasted graphics and the all of the little "slow down" elements put into the game which, in my mind, are only there to artificially increase the amount of time it takes to do anything so that it takes you longer to progress in the game. It's like SE is stuck in 2002 and cannot accept the fact that the genre has evolved dramatically since their initial development of FFXI. The really disappointing part is that there are a lot of "hardcore" elements of FFXI/FFXIV that I wish other games would adopt, i.e. complex crafting, the possibility of failing when crafting, forced grouping, etc, but it doesn't seem like SE is willing to adopt some of the more "standardized" features of the MMO genre to compliment the things that they do extremely well. /sigh C'est la vie.

Aion had failable crafting (sort of...). It only made like 50% of the playerbase quit.

I was looking forward to the grouping aspect of the game coming back, but apparently now its just a (slower) solo grinder.
