Ok so I just got my hands on one, and am curious as to how long I can keep this weapon, and if the multi-hit effect procs on WS. I am new to the SAM job so I look forward to some good advice ^^

I used mine until lvl 59, and changed to Daihannya.

I've never done any testing so I don't know for sure if that was the right choice, but eventually I wanted a GK that had a bigger base damage and was pretty content.

You could use it to 72, but would get bored of it. It's much more fun seeing higher dmg with a bigger weapon.

If you want to do by far the most damage, stick with soboro to 72, then go with Hagun. If you want high WS numbers, but much lower overall damage, swap to something else at around 60. No, the multi-hit effect does not kick in on WS.

I don't see how anyone could possibly get bored of a soboro, I wish I could still use mine in exp parties.

How much effect does the base damage have on WS damage? I would think the Soboro is great for DoT (altho SAMs arent really DoTers) but it can also lead to some major WS spammage due to the constant amounts of TP gained no? Yes, Hagun = awesomesauce. BTW anyone know what the drop rate is on the Hagun ENM?

Well, i haven't been on since feb this year, and my sam only really got to mid 60's, but i'd like to say something about this weapon.

Many a months ago, i was lvling.... Some of my many jobs, i think it was 73'ish, and i had a rdm as a healer, and we were duo'ing Imps by the Khimaria zone, and a friend who was a 75 sam offered to come help if he could test out something.

So he shows up, Soboro in hand, and with a bow (can't remember which one). What he basically did, was rip those imps apart, amazingly fast. He'd get TP fast as hell, take a couple steps back and sidewinder. He was subbing rng, and i'm sure he macro'd in a bunch of ratt stuff, but it was quite impressive. He'd pull with a sidewinder that'd take half the imp's HP away, whack it for 1-2 rounds, and in a couple seconds sidewinder again and that'd be it. I basically just stood there in awe, and we got chain 10's, would probably have been higher if not for the flayers in that zone.

Just keep an eye out for unusual combo's that have specific, but jaw dropping uses. :)

Yeah, I remember reading about the Soboro being awesome for sam/rng Sidewinder spammage. I have rng lvled past 37 and my archery is capped so far on my SAM (and when I pull I tend to land those arrows pretty often). But yeah, thanks for reminding me of this Dejan =D Anyone have any other combos or ideas as to how useful it can be? I know GKs can be expensive (hellooooo Hagun -.-) but I wanna see how much I can get away with as far as not having to buy TOO many GKs from here till I get a Hagun.

My sam just hit 64 the other night. I've had soboro since I was like 30 something. Anyway, I think soboro really kind of sucks until 60 when you get yukikaze. Also, if I had to go through the 50's again, I would've leveld polearm beforehand. I was in a level sync party the other night and we were capped at 57. I just leveled polearm with my war for situations like that, and I must say that polearm owns gkatana in the 50's. Great katana might get lucky with 300-400 damage enpi or jinpu, which is really uncommon, and polearm will be pushing 400-1000 with war sub on colibri. There's really no comparison... but, yukikaze changes that all.

Just my two cents.

Or if you're fully merited with Polearm and know how to correctly gear yourself for Penta, you can have consistent 1k+ and 1.5k around level 60 with a double attack proc or two. D:

Soboro is basically just a toy...you will never use it in any real situation such as fighting gods or HNM because it just feeds tp. It is fun to play around with in parties especially as Euphacent says after you start getting the 3 good sam ws's. I have both Soboro and Hagun and seriously after seeing how sexy Hagun is it is hard to put it down for anything else.

Weapon skills are weaker, but the DoT and the spamming of them easily outdamages a normal GK. Hagun only catches up with the TP multiplier, they're pretty close, but soboro's just useless for endgame. Soboro is infinitely more fun, but just not as practical as Hagun.

Right, the main thing I was trying to find out was whether or not its worth keeping the Soboro till I can use a Hagun, and from the looks of it, the soboro is worth using till then

So Polearm is also good to use while exping on colibri till yukikaze? And how good of an acc build would I need to be effective since sam has a B rating on polearm.

As far as the drop rate, I've done the Hagun ENM, hm, 5 times? Got 1 Hagun and 2 Forger's Mantles so far.

Yeah fuck you =p I think I'm somewhere around 3/70something on haguns and 6/70something on mantles?

pted wtih palides using polearm and another sam(sephzero) using gk I parsed the results, going to see if i can find them.

palides from the results seemed like he was fully merited since he was subbing /dnc for healing and was nearly doing as much as the sam using the gk(maybe unmerited i don't know) using soboro.

However seph was barely leading the parse by what 3-4%? i think?

seph could have been more merited than pal I don't know but I'm inclined to believe that you can't go wrong either way.

...of course I didn't save the parse(since it was a damn good one)

level 60ish pt fyi

I only use soboro for a few things at 75 :

- SAM/RNG
- Dynamis somtimes
- Mobs T and lower

Was it on a mob that takes more dmg from piercing?

Great for /RNG.

Great for /DNC.

Great for solo.

Great for fun.

Great for EXP 'til 60 ish, then you'll generally be better off using a higher damage GK.

My Sams like 60 almost 61. Soboro is a pretty great GK, don't listen to people in parties who tell you otherwise who probably don't even have the job leveled. I suggest like everyone else to use it to 72 unless you're looking for high weaponskills i.e. using a higher Dmging weapon. The best part about it is when you weaponskill, you can practically get tp in another 2-3 swings of the 2-3 rounds your GK gives you.
The only downside I would see people discouraging you is the huge TP you're giving the mob and the amount of hate you're getting.
