How is me running windower so I can browse the internet and party seek at the same time any different than you running Fraps to record videos and take high quality screen shots?

Last time I checked we're BOTH running 3rd party software with PoL

If we're bringing FRAPS into this, FRAPS in no way alters or modifies how the game is run. It sits on top and waits for input to capture, much like a parser. But even if you want to consider that a 3rd party program, that's fine. I accept that if, at some point, Square wants to scan my HD for Fraps or Windower or whatever and punish me for it, I know I'm taking that risk and I won't be pissed if it happens. I don't consider myself innocent like most Windower users do.

I'm eagerly awaiting the day Square stealth-patches the software to detect the windower hooking POL/FFXI and gave everyone they detected, say... a 3 day suspension, the boards would be a gigantic riot. Not just here, but on Alla, KI, BG, all the major boards. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people whining and bitching about 'being banned for no reason.' Someone would say it was due to Windower and we all know the response to THAT:

It would be the greatest day in the history of FFXI.

That'll happen about the same time SE actually starts banning gil buyers/sellers. Why? Because there's more people doing it than there are bitching about it, meaning they stand to lose more real life money by taking action than by not taking action.

How many times have you been running through a dungeon and pulled up mystery tour or somepage to find the location of coffers? I think it's pretty interesting to see this and I might tell you what I think about it when I hook up my PC again.

The difference in windower is that it doesn't allow you to do anything you couldn't do without it (well some plugins do, aka TParty, etc)

Pulling up Mysterytour to find that coffer map could easily be done simply by logging out and printing, or printing before you get there, or having a laptop next to you. It helps you do something more easily, that you can already do.

Windower does not allow you to use widescan as a job that doesn't have it, or flee at any time as any job, or claim a mob before it pops by warping to it and using the game's code, etc.

Yes it is a cheat. The difference between windower/fraps and the "bad cheats" is much like the difference between not wearing your seatbelt and holding up a liquor store. People that run windower and people that don't wear their seatbelt feel like they are breaking a stupid law/rule that shouldn't exist in the first place. How many people that rob liquor stores or use MrArgus feel that there shouldn't be any law/rule against it?

Yes it's a rule, yes you are breaking the ToS using a windower or fraps. Yes you should be punished if caught using it.

Speaking of double standards... nobody is saying that Windower isn't against the ToS But in all reality how many times do PS2 users boot up Mysterytour on their computer while running around on their TV....or is it cheating to say boot up a seperate laptop and look up the required information while you run POL on your PC Tower? I'm well aware that using 3rd party apps is against the ToS, just like I'm well aware it's illeagal to not wear a seatbelt however, me being able to post here while lfg, or browse CNN does absolutely nothing to detract from YOUR game experience.

YES there are apps you can run with windower that do ruin other peoples game experience but nobody I've seen thus far on the board is defending those apps. Would I prefer just not to use windower and have SE fix the full screen mode? Yup. Do I find it annoying when I get pulled out of the game everytime Norton boots up or I accidently go Alt tab instead of alt 1....Yup. Does windower solve these problems? Yup.

I'm fully prepared to deal with the consequences of my actions if SE ever decidces to punish people using 3rd partty apps while running their game, but I'm quite happy using it in the meantime just like I'm sure a lot of you are quite happy using fraps before or if ever SE brings down the 3rd party hammer.

Me running windower and browsing the internet at the same time is the least of this games problems.

Quoted for truth. When I exclusively played on PS2, I used to just print out the coffer maps ahead of time to have with me. It's just easier. The difference between this and real "cheats" is that playing in the window, does not change/manipulate abilities in the game.
