Square Enix's next gen MMO:

imho it looks like hume body shape with a taru nose.

no more MMOs after FFXI, unless they're with rl friends and when they quit I quit.

Might as well call it FFXI-2 due to the improved graphics and similar designs and force the 'lower-end users' to upgrade.

In my opinion, Its probably a graphical update compacted on a disk for 360, PC's and PS3. You buy the disk, upgrade and play while others who haven't upgraded can still play because I guarantee you that this is not another MMO. It's simply a graphical update because you see a lizard Jerkin, Hume male with same pose and hair. The Girl is wearing Aht urghan armor.

Or maybe its a sequel and it comes in two packages, one for regular normal looking FFXI and the other for the upgraded version... I don't know but it's probably far from a sequel.

The picture is from a concept video and does not represent the final product in any way.

I can see the immediate attention of this "hume" look-a-like and its automatic appeal to Final Fantasy. However, It feels more futuristic then what a FF normally is and SE had exploited those fans already... To me, the design and environment remind me of Star Ocean. More info, hopefully during E3, needs to be released.

And in the case of sequels... ever since X-2, SE has been more accepting of direct sequels. FFVII (Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core [prequel]) FFXII is just a small part of the Ivallice Alliance which includes (Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Stroy, Revnant Wings, FFTactics Advance 1 and 2) FFXIII (Versus and that cell phone one), FFIV (FFIV After).

SE put all of those things to rest in 2006. Not to mention the two years of slim, but present, news since then. If it has anything to do with FFXI then they've been telling a fib every time they mention the game.

ugh, if only though.

I really think that if they do plan on releasing a new MMO then they'll lose some players.

Sure, they'll probably loose some FFXI players but that's not bad at all for them unless they don't move to the next SE game. Players quit one SE billed gamed to go to another. Either way, they make their money. The only way they'd loose money is if people quit FFXI because they released another game and they don't subscribe to the new game. That just doesn't make since to me though. If anything I see the Everquest factor coming. Which isn't bad, it's simply: new players feel confident to enter a new game, old players do both or convert, or old people try EQ2 and prefer EQ and stick with EQ. It seems to be workin' out quite well.

I don't see this game killin' off FFXI though. FFXI still has a lot of life left and if the devs say this new game will not effect it's forward progress. I think if anything FFXI players will have a hard time choosin' given the amount of time it takes to make somethin' of your characters. If FFXI does drop in considerable numbers, they could simply just merge some worlds and shut down some servers to compensate. There are a lot of things they could do really to cut down cost to keep it still worthwhile to produce on.

I dunno about this game. I would fear playing it because I'd doubt it'd be very popular.

It's a Japanese MMO that's exclusive to Vista and the 360? On top of that, my PC that was far more powerful than a PS2 ended up running FFXI worse than my PS2 did. Square are not that great at optimizing for the PC. If the PC has to be significantly more powerful than a 360 just to run at half decent quality,... I think we can really kiss any user base goodbye. This game would need a PS3 build to succeed in Japan, and without any Japanese players you won't get all the American players who joined so they can tell all their friends they play with Japanese people and do gay little "w" and "^_^" faces...

Well FFXI was released in 2002. I'm sure SE has learned some things, probably will be optimized better.

The Engine is being made to support the 360 and PS3. My bet is, they'll release a PS3 version. Im guessing it'll be farely popular too, just nowhere near WoW. If an MMO can get 500k subscribers, then its doing good.

We'll see what SE actually does, they didn't accept or deny that it was not going to ps3. They stated it's major focus is pc and 360. I understand that sony is huge in japan, but it isn't in the united states or anywhere else as of right now. SE is trying to focus on a worldwide view of gaming, they'll make a game where the demand is and right now it's not sony.

I still think by the time it hits, the PS3 will have become way more popular because the format was is over and Blu ray one, and bigger titles like FFXIII and Versus. I'm sure they'll have a PS3 version coming not long after.

format war may be over, but that has nothing to do with whats being and has been in development now. SE will guage with what happens now with every other 3rd party company and see where successes are made. Sony has alot of kissing ass to do especially with the stunts they pulled when PS3 was first released.

Except for that whole deal that the US is the only country that the PS3 is being outsold by 360 (that may have changed since i last looked, but probably not). So if they are going for a world wide view for gaming, they really dropped the ball.

SE's mistake is putting it on a console.

Most of our complaints now about FFXI is it's limited to what the PS2 can handle... the same will happen for the 360 in five or so years, when we've all gotten new computers with 8-core processors and solid-state hard drives running Windows 7. =/

My only problem is, unless they do something severely different with the economy, the gameplay is going to remain FFXIesque imo. I'd rather focus more on the game than surviving in the game.

ill play tihs when it comes out :) i liked FFXI just wow took over lol :(
