Starting to work out: Creatine?

Yo Carrot Top is buff dawg.

Confidence is more how you act rather than how you look. There is more to a person than how they look, so work on all aspects. You could simply be a person who build thin muscles. I have seen scrawny men able to lift heavy things. Rather than bulk up, your body may just strengthen what is there into strong iron. Just do things that make you happy. People like to be around other people who are happy. As you get older the thickening out thing will happen on it's own.

I have to fully agree here, work on your inside and the outside won't matter as much. A little confidence goes a long way.

Think about it, do you really want to look like this:

Posted in your Fitness forum thread. Too much noise here.
Cheers, Pomp!

You hush Sneaky.

And that last pic is PG 13... you can see too much hair...

I just speak the truth, and I think that needs to be heard. There's more reliable information for him in that sub forum, where it's free of being critiqued by those who have no business critiquing. XD

What pic are you talking about? All I see is Carrotdouche.

Yeah look closer >.>

Sorry I even posted the first, Mires post truly inspired that, things just pop into my head... like songs.

I agree this thread should be in the fitness sub HOWEVER, maybe he wanted the general public's opinions???

He did want opinions. And now he's getting more focused ones, thatare addressing his questions more appropriately. I'm not saying all information in here is worthless, but much of it is, and I don't want an old friend taking poor advice. The general public is never a real good source of accurate information anyway, which he knows. No offense to you, but I didn't post here to begin with just to avoid having to discuss this topic with most of the folks that chose to involve themselves. It's just a runaround. Hell, you brought up one of the best pieces of advice in here Cheebs. "Listen to your body." So there is some solid and good information, but I just wanted him to be able to understand the good from the bad, and in an environment where he can really feel comfortable talking about this stuff.

I have business replying :/ I don't have access to the other forum.

I looked into stuff myself when I started going to the gym. I found the best way to look your best is to just be healthy and not eat crap. Since going to the gym I have lost all cravings for any junk food. I used to love Salt and Vinegar chips, now I don't even look at them when I pass them at the store. Same with pop, I used to drink Coke all the time, now when Dave and I go get a 12 pack, I drink 1, maybe 1.5, but I drink a lot more water and natural juice (usually green tea based juice as well, it helps with energy naturally).

It is true though, if you want to meet women more, there is nothing more attractive than a confident man. Yea, having a nice body doesn't hurt but if a guy acts like it's not the end of the world if you don't want to talk to him (you know, in the "if you don't want to talk to me, I'll go find someone else to talk to" kinda way) it helps.

For working out and muscle mass though, I'd say stick to the natural enhancers that don't have freaky side effects.

Can always request access if it's something you're really interested in, or interested in discussing. ^^

I agree 100%.

I only offered what I felt was viable advise otherwise an extreme example of what Mire had posted. Ultimately I take the question seriously and I hope everyone does.

Yeah I hope so too, and I think people respond with best intentions. Though we know what good the best of intentions can be often times.
It's not the 2 of you that I'm concerned with. XD

I did butthead, it hasn't been approved yet >.<

Oh ok assface. I didn't know that. I think Arc approves/sees over that forum's applications. ;)

How about Beef Curtains?

Nvm...

I'm asking this question to QCDN rather than to professionals because I think some of you might be, or might have been in a similar boat. Here we go. I'm tired of being scrawny. I'm around 5'10 and only 125lbs. For several months now, I've been driven on self improvement - career, social life, etc. I don't want to be who I was. Joining a gym is a logical course of action. I don't want to be a body builder. To be honest, my goal is "normal". Granted, there's no exact definition of normal, except that I'll know it when I see it. I just don't aim to be a steroid popping wall of rock and sinew. Just want to get as attractive as my genes will allow, and hopefully maintain.

So, with the background out of the way, here's the question. Creatine. I hear so much good about the stuff, and on the flipside, so much bad. I did my homework before making my thread here, and am familiar with what the top pertinent google results have to say. It's the side effects that worry me. Has anyone used the stuff? I want to speed up the progress of my workout in every safe and legal way. Both of those qualifiers are important. I won't use steroids, even though I was offered. Companies like GNC offer a lot of supplements that seem to come close, and I don't know where to begin. Creatine seems like the strongest and most effective supplement short of steroids, but the side effects seem daunting. I've read everything from kidney stones to nonstop diahreah to cramps and tissue damage in the legs.

If anyone here has tried workout supplements, you have my complete attention. I'll trust real people here more than professionals on specialty fitness sites. Good results? Bad results?

The last time I took Creatine was back in my senior year of highschool for football. The results were impressive for the couple months that I was taking it, but I noticed that I couldn't maintain my muscle mass if I wasn't consistently taking it. From what I remember is that Creatine bloats your muscles with water to give off the look of increasing muscle mass. After I learned about that I stopped taking it since it wasn't giving me a long lasting effect.

I will be pretty honest that with your body type you can probably get more cut than bulk which is still great. My body type is more apt at acquiring muscle mass I guess because of genes or something or that islanders are, in general, stocky people. I tried using the protein supplements after I worked out but I found that Carb intakes after working out gave me better results. The book that I followed that was really informative was Men's Health Hard Body Workout. If you can find it, pick it up and read it a bit to see if it gives you what you want. Other than that, good luck in hitting that mark Pomp.

WHOOOOAAA!! 'bootylips' is an entirely different monster...

Mire, I love you, and I knows you're fit... we can dance if we want to =D

EDIT:

See I do agree creatine is not the way to go. It's not long lasting, and although I myself didn't take it, watching my buff ex slack off and appear to lose several pounds after he stopped his creatine regimine and hearing that effect confirmed here I'd definitely stay natural.

Beef... Curtains...

...

Omg Cheebs, now that song/video is in my head.

Thanks - these are all great suggestions. If it matters, my aim isn't self defense. My biggest muscle is my friendliness. I'm actually about as bad as a guy can get in terms of meeting women. Before I decided to work out, I decided I wanted to be more social. I can't do that if I'm a circus freak. I want to look good for confidence and for women. I'm 30 and not getting any younger. That's my motivation for all of this. I can't make women I like lower their standards. I'm gonna have to raise myself to theirs.

I'm not going to give you recommendations or tips about getting buff, but I will let you know that there are plenty of chicks who dig on scrawny/thin boys. My husband is 6'4" and was 140 - 150ish when we started dating.

I'm not going to lie, physical attraction is the initial hook a lot of times. But if you're confident about yourself, that is attractive as well. And don't discount a sense of humor, it can get you a lot of places. Intelligence and passion and unique hobbies and on and on and on... Any of the things I listed are more important in a serious relationship that looks, too.

If you wanna better yourself, I'm totally in support of that. But don't do it to impress other people - even girls. Fuck other people, girls most of all (pun intended). Do it because you enjoy it. When you change your appearance (from bulking up to a tattoo to a new wardrobe) for someone else - even a generalized someone else you've never met yet - it isn't a good thing. Be in it for you and you only.

There's a lot of truth in your reply, Lin. The core message is similar to advice I got from Strid, namely that confidence is the key. You say that what matters is that any changes I make, I do so for myself. I have to ask one thing, or maybe propose would be a better word.

I have a goal in mind. This goal is twofold: not being single, and being happy not being single. Now it's fair to say I've been trying things my way for a while, obviously. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing multiple times and expecting different results. Something has to change. I can't change others - only myself.

So, I need confidence. I agree with this. I won't be successful if I'm not. Now confidence is something everyone wants. I'm not unconfident by choice. If gaining confidence was just a mental light switch away, you can believe I would switch it. If I'm going to get confident, I need a trigger. Aside from looking better, I don't know what to do. Confidence won't spring forth from a void, as far as I know.

I admit I'm the kind of guy you meet who's looking down at his shoes and scratching the back of his head while talking to you. This won't do. If I make a conscious effort to look a person in the eyes while talking, they tend to look away. In other words, when I'm not being me (cowing my head), I feel like I'm freaking people out. So, I'll work on it.

EDIT: Thursday, I'll go to the bar and see if I can't just say hi to some stranger. If it happens, that'll be a first. Every friend, no exaggeration, that I have, either made the initiative and came to me, or was thrust upon me by fate, such as a coworker or classmate. Not once in my life, and it's weird even thinking about it now, have I ever initiated a friendship voluntarily. That I have a good handful of friends in life is a testament to people being good in general, and not to any good in me.
