Still playing FFXI?

FFXI is the only MMORPG I am willing too play just because its a Final Fantasy game. When I quit which I feel maybe soon then I am done with MMORPGs for good.

Well WoW is based on the backbone of Warcraft...so yeah PVP wars are obviously chaotic as hell... this vid really makes me wanna get back into the game...if only for the pvp raids... the rest was pretty dull.

LoL I was thinking the same thing, except I would just be starting out. The differences between the 2 games I could care less about, but WoW has PvP and if it half as fun as that looked, I would be all about that.

this video has horrible music ^_^

that aside this shows mostly Mid-level (40ish) characters on the Alliance side raiding mose of the Horde's hometowns, and one horde raiding alliance hometown.

PVP like this is not all THAT frequent, and is laggy, but very fun.

Other than the abomonations (big ugly giant things) there arent any mobs shown this is all pvp.

actually much of what was shown here is considered 'bad form' since it is a clearly uneven battle in favor of the alliance. 20 vs 10 is by no means an even contest people :P

WoW is very very fun and has few of FFXI's complaints. It has its own set of complaints of course but if you are sick to death of some things in FFXI (constant lfg, lack of ___ class, farming for hours, way too long to level) this may be the game for you.

You really should be picky when it comes to server however. Make sure its a good one, that doesnt crash often, and has a decent ratio. Some servers are split evenly (1:1) and some servers are as bad as 8:1 in favor of one faction. Playing a server where your team is outnumbered 8:1 might be a nightmare!

Current complaints about wow: BORED. have hit max cap, all i have left are things that require large groups of people... (oh great i'm looking for group...) Thats...all really. But the truth is i never looked for group once on my way to cap so it's really odd to be doing so now.

This is what I heard too... that the endgame content doesn't nearly match up to FFXI =\

PvP is very frequent, I can't believe you said that. After you get to level 30 you start sharing quests with the horde questing in the same areas, and it's usually kill on sight for both factions, and thats just doing your quests, not to mention group raids and large scale raids. There is no "bad form" in pvp either. Dunno where you have pvp'd before but thats hogwash. I've pvp'd in UO, DaoC, and Shadowbane and its kill or be killed, period.

I work from home and play a lot more then most people and I'm level 49, I have seen guys level 60 2 weeks after release (its been a month and a week now) anyone who was 60 back then or even 60 now deserves to be bored, power leveling skipping the majority of the quests defeats the purpose of playing this game or any game for that matter. If you have played other PvP games (like shadowbane) you'll know once you get one toon/class up to max level you work on the next, you get each job up and see which is the best for your style of play in pvp. It's far from the end of the game once you get one toon to 60.

The questing and PvE is just as fun as the PvP in WoW to.

The best thing about WoW is they made it so easy on you, they really did an amazing job on it. This game is going to be around for a very long time as UO was/is.

The game has only been out for how many months now, two? I'm sure when FFXI first got released they didn't have much end game content either. Blizzard will add some in due time.

I don't think FFXI had that many complaints after two months it came out too though. I mean, people were still exploring the world. I know I was. I didn't run into complaints about the game for a long time.

The game makes me want to play and not want to play ill start with the want to play list.

1. looks fun and chaotic.

2. Looks fun to explore.

3. looks like you can do some cool things.

Now the i dont want to play list.

1. I made a deal that i could only play one MMO that you have to pay for (cant wait for guild wars its free and looks cool).

2. Does it have the function of changing jobs like FF11 whenever you lik?

3. Will people come out of no where while your just doing stuff and kill you?

4. Does it have as much game time.

5. is the story well written or is there even a story...

Thats the end.... If anyone here has seen guild wars its a basic mmo without the payments and you do quests no one else can do except your group.

I've played ballista, and I still do once in a while. However, I would like if they added LIMITED PvP to FFXI. I'm thinking a flag like your lfg flag that you can put up; When it's up you can participate in PvP, when it's down, you can't. That would appease both sides of the PvP debate, as people who want to can, and those who don't will not have to worry about it.

Anyhow, that video was pretty cool in my opinion, and the game does seem fun. However, i'll always love FFXI (at least until i get so fed up with it i can't stand to look at my computer anymore) and WoW just looks like it would be too easy, especially if you can reach max level in only 2 weeks. That and...i don't like my characters all cartoony lookin >.>.

What I would like to know is when Ballista came out they said it was the FIRST in a SERIES of PvP events called Conflict. Where are the other events?

They probably wont add it unless another MMO comes out that threatens to take away FFXI players.

Like how when Blizzard released Lord of Destruction expansion for Diablo II and said there would be new runewords released every month... and by saying every month, they really meant every two years. :)

I meant PVP like in this video, excuse me. People randomly killing other people while questing is rampant, in fact certain zones are so bloody its almost guarenteed that there is some mild PVP going on 24 hours a day. What is shown in the video is a large scale raiding group which happens on my server about 2-3 times a week.

No I didnt grind or skip quests and I'm honored/revered in every city including the goblins. The only time i had to resort to grinding was at lvl 59 when i was frankly out of quests. (there arent any more to go get after EasternPlagulands area).

Still, unless theres other people to go do the big instances (Stratholme, Scholomance, Blackrock depths and Spire,) I don't really have much to do. I have my crafting maxed, so mostly go out farming for materials and sell my wares on the AH. I also have several alts so dont even go there, most of them are 20+ now too.

*cough*

1. monthly fee covers (iirc) 40 characters across 8 servers. Thats right you can have 40 on one account.
2. No jobchanging. If you want to play another job you have to make another character. One plus to this is each character has his own bank so you dont have to store your mage gear in your priest's bank.
3. On a pvp server, abslutely. In fact those people will likely be 2x your level so you have no chance. On a PVE server, no this cannot happen unless you set yourself to pvp.
4. Every minute you spend in game you are actually playing. You arent sittingin town waiting for someone to pick you. It takes roughly 12-20 days /played(as in hours online) to take your character to 60, read it how you will.
5. It's sorta cliche, but the story is there and every single quest puts things in a new light. I like it a lot compared to the dry ffxi mission storylines, (excluding promathia since i havent done past 2-5 i dont know how good it gets.) There are many times while questing someone will say something that makes you go "OH! _thats'_ why suchandsuch is..."

FFXI is a good game with (sorry to say this guy) serious community issues. With the JP/NA struggle on one side, the Casual/dedicated on the other, the PC/PS2, melle/mages.... Theres so much unhappieness :( Games should be fun!

I'm not bashing WoW...it's a very smooth and good looking game, but too easy for my tastes.
XD
agreed. Far too easy.

I'm going to say WoW is the worst game ever made... it's crap, it sucks, it will never find a place in my mind or heart, only in the hall of crap. Why? Why diss a game I only know little about and have not yet really experienced enough to give true judgment?

I'm on a blizzard boycott until they fucking make a sequel to starcraft. Probably the best game they ever made among their, arguably lesser, creations.

EDIT:
Going to add something. I like playing MMORPG's. I played a lot of them, several even at once at times. Most of you just seem to be playing fan boy,"My game is better and this is why", which I think is pretty annoying. In basics every MMORPG is the same thing, the only thing that changes is in the way it's presented to you. You have an array of make-believe worlds, pick the one you like and let the others do the same. I like FFXI mostly because it's in a Final Fantasy setting, after playing MMORPG's for a while you start caring less about small things like how they handle jobs/classes or quests, because in the end they are trite differences.

Story/gameplay/setting is what I look for. I enjoyed FFXI's storyline, thank you. WoW looks interesting to be serious, will I play it? I have this thing against blizzard so it's really effecting my opinion... I won't be playing WoW any time soon. However I am looking forward to Front Mission Online and Ambrosia Odessy, 2 other MMORPG's from S-E using POL, and I have my eyes on various other MMORPG's that I might want to start playing.

I understand a lot of people are upset that a lot of their friends are quiting FFXI for WoW, and some even think FFXI is doomed because of so many quiting. Ha. Actually I do hope a lot more quit for WoW, if any of the NA players remember how it was when the game was first released for NA.... Dunes wasn't the hell it is today, and so few people know what the hell kazham was that it was a paradise of hot sexy xp love... I thank the gods my first class was samurai so I HAD to go through kazham.

Anyways that is the name of the game, a large amount of players play for the moment, move on when something else comes out. Soon enough another MMORPG will come, and a large amount of players will quit WoW for it. Will it kill WoW? Well if EQ (ugh) is any indication, hell no. Weither that is good or bad... who knows.

I'm pretty amazed on how some people have the guts to even post something like this. I'm glad you're "having fun in WoW" but why the hell do you think I should care. Go play your EQ, RO, WoW or whatever. The title is even offensive.. "Still playing FFXI?" I don't believe in religion, but we don't need any christan priests here looking for converts. Please, take yourself to your god (be it FFXI, WoW, EQ2) and let things be. Even SWG players think their game is the best in the world. Just be glad most of them don't post that on other MMORPG boards like you are doing.

That was all one blob too you? You better not buy WoW then you couldn't handle a fast pace game.

WoW is ultra fun, FFXI is a job. You bash on it because you know it's better.

What a meaningless statement, because "I know it's better"? Trust me if I was unhappy I would've left long ago. You don't log in nearly 90 game days(maybe one day total of that being afk at the most) because you hate a game normally.

Screw the grouping system in FFXI.
Screw waiting hours for groups.
Screw the gil sellers.
Screw all the Japanese snobs that are in FFXI. "JP ONLY"
Did I mention screw the grouping system?

FFXI definitely has it's own flaws. But I can put up with a few unless it becomes huge. It shows some flaws at higher levels as far as xp goes, but I actually enjoy the grouping system. It gives every class a feel of individuality that you are never going to find in another game, single player or online.

Because of the job system it leads to tactical battles as well. What skillchain, when to do it, what to choose as a MB to not overkill, when to go all out for chain 5, etc.

And the story only starts getting interesting at 4-3 and 5-2 with shadowlord. I only gotten up to 6-2 and got rank 7 but the story so far is awsome. The little bit of promy I've explored has also been interesting. But i don't play a MMORPG for the story, a nice bonus though that keeps me motivated.

What bothered me about that movie of WoW wasn't the fact everything was fast which is a good thing for PvP, but everything looked the same except the giant mob guys. All the other character has such little individuality from the camera angle shown, and all merged together.

It looks to me you can't even be strategtic about PvP in this. For arguement's sake it's guys with red names over their heads vs guys with blue names over their heads. And you just pile on whatever bad guy is closest to you. Can you even easily tell the difference between the fragile mages and the well armored tanks and dangerous rogues when everyone is just clustered together?

Although to be honest, ideally I would like some NA only servers and JP only servers for FFXI. But I doubt I'd have fun in WoW so I'm staying put. WoW looks liked a watered down MMO which isn't exactly a bad thing, good for those with time issues.

I didn't think I would try this game since I thought the graphics were ugly but now that I actually played it, I love the graphics.:)

Though when I play WoW I get pretty lonely since I don't know anyone since grouping is not really needed, that's probably the only thing I miss about FFXI is the atmosphere. I really wish Final Fantasy had PvsP all the time.

a duel system would do wonders I notice.. for a lot of light pvp or non pvp based games. PvP can ruin or make a game, depending on the game. This is warcraft for crying outloud, the game's style is fitting and so is the pvp.

Open pvp in other games tho is not as fun, I mean in real life you don't just go shoot people without punishment. I think stat reductions, character deletion (death penalty), jail time for a month, would not work in a MMORPG setting because it woudl defeat the point. No one would PvP.

For FFXI, a duel system would be nice. I can see that actually happening, adventurers testing their strength against others. You send a duel challenge, they accept, and all of a sudden you can fight each other. Would probably be so you're hp doesn't drop below 1, during which when it hits 1 you lose the duel. Can go pt vs pt as well. Maybe even alliance vs alliance. Would be fun I think. Yes, we have ballista. But that is a game. Killing a PC is simply a small part of the game, instead of the whole point.

Maybe a type of tourney city/arena.
