The only benefit of the rating system to me is that if I think someone is an idiot, I can tell them personally, as opposed to letting everyone else know that I think they're an idiot, which I usually do anyway. I'm a walking contradiction.

It's a crazy concept, getting real world consequences for internet actions, but I think it's a good concept, if it were feasible. You are who you are, after all. If I were a manager of a company and a potential employee was prone to undesirable behavior any time s/he was anonymous, I'd hire someone else. The only reason, I imagine, that companies don't check up on people's internet behavior is because they can't. The manager of my current job once said that the real test of character is how you act when nobody is looking, and that pertains to the internet.
