I love Stossel ... he basically sums up how i feel about global warming in his first show on FBN since he no longer has his hands tied at ABC. The only problem i have is that he acknowledged a warming trend when there has really been no irrefutable evidence that we are beyond the limits of normal fluctuation.

The message I received: If you get wealthy (rich) things will be better, but if you're poor you're fucked.

That's pretty much common sense. So where's this magic money going to come from to make all the poor countries of the world wealthy and happy and ....somehow help the climate?

(watched vids 1-5, and then lost interest)

Yes and no.. the message is that if we were going to spend that kind of money shouldn't we do things that would guaranteed make a difference instead of spending an incredible amount of money on a chance. Giving everyone in the world clean water and food would save far more people.

He actually did a segment like this when he was on ABC. I used it in a presentation my freshman year of college.

From what I can gather from your post, your view is that Global Warming is a myth and it's just the media blowing everything out of proportion like they always do.

Global warming is very real, and is a very real problem. It may mildly affect us in our lifetime, but the future is rather important to a fair few people. You cannot deny that global warming is happening right now, and if you're saying "there's no irrefutable evidence" that we're wasting so much energy that we're risking killing off our own race, then you've been living in a cave for the past 20 years.

It's easy to play the sceptic, and say things like "that flood would have happened anyway", but the fact of the matter is, there's more proof to show that global warming is causing an increase in extreme weather and temperature rises than there is to prove that it's normal. You use the word fluctuation when it appears you don't know what it actually means. Our weather patterns aren't fluctuating, they're showing a very easy-to-follow trend. The planet is getting hotter year upon year, this is a fact. This plays havoc with our planet, also a fact. Carbon dioxide produced today will stay in our atmosphere for 100 years, and this is the cause.

Obviously we will have hot and cold years. This is weather variability, and is true for most statistics. However, when you take the overall weather patterns for our planet over a longer period of time, you can clearly see that our climate is changing at an unprecedented rate, and global warming is the reason why. We consume a horrendous amount of energy, and our CO2 emissions are at an all-time high, and climbing. Do you think this is having no effect on our planet at all?

I suggest you watch a few programs on global warming, take off your "I hate Al Gore and the media" hat and educate yourself on what is fact and what is fiction. The media over-emphasize and exaggerate everything, but the underlying problem still remains. The only thing really up for debate is the time periods we're working with, and how much we need to cut down by. That, and the fact that the media make it out like we're killing our planet. We're not - we're killing off the human race. When our world becomes inhabitable, the earth will remain, and after a long enough time, it will return to it's normal climate; without humans.

The anthro effect on the earth hasn't been happening long enough to make any sort of scientific statement as to its validity. The industrial Revolution has only happened in the last 300 years. Besides, the water vapor in the atmosphere traps far more heat than the carbon emissions.

There have been about a dozen ice ages after warmer periods. Global warming is a giant crock of shit that most people should be able to think critically and see why. Global Climate Change on the other hand is a much more real theory.

How can you say that Global warming is a crock, but Global climate change is more viable? One of the massive effects of global warming IS the climate change. It's not a crock of shit, it's a word used to describe the climate change our world has seen over the past few hundred years as a result of increasing carbon emissions. Let me ask you a question: what's the difference, in your opinion, between Global Warming and Global Climate change? Afterall, the main idea of Global Warming IS the climate change on our planet.

It's widely known that the increasing carbon emissions have caused the rise in temperature and change in climate on our planet. Please explain to me where Global Warming is "bullshit" and where global climate change (however it's supposed to be different) holds more validity.

Isn't there a volcano near Hawaii that emits more carbon whateveritwas in one day then all humans of the earth do in a year? Eco-guilt is the best way to make money these days people. Create your own website and sell people "carbon credits" so they can feel good about driving a huge SUV. That way...you can play on Al Gore's ridiculous claims and make a nice profit!

Seriously though, there's evidence for both sides. In the end, I don't think it's bad if we spend *some* money on researching ways to cut down on emissions and whatnot, but we shouldn't be doing it cause it's the in thing to do. It should just be done to better us anyways.

this post pretty much sums up my thoughts.

and we are working toward lowing emissions, theres new technology and new innovations happening everyday, they are building cars that run completely on electricity and do 0-60 in like 2 secs and 0-100 in like 7, and still go 300+ miles on 1 charge.

Granted, these are prototypes that are to expensive for anyone to own as a daily driver, but remember 10 years ago when the same could have been said for Hybrids?

The technology is moving fast and we don't need an entire new tax system to do it.

This PC craze for being green causes changes with no forethought in the outcome, which causes things like the leap to corn based biofuels, causing starvation in poor countries that rely on corn because corn prices quadruple. all so people can feel good about being "green"

Because one of the fatal flaws with global warming is that it only deals with one thing. The earth getting warmer. Yes, the earth gets warmer, but its not the only thing it gets. That whole thing i said about 12 ice ages the earth has gone through? If the earth never got warmer, where did the ice go? That said, why have there been so many ice ages if the only problem we have is the earth getting warmer? Global climate change deals with both ends of the spectrum and is a lot easier to believe. The main idea of global climate change is that the climate changes over time. The main idea behind global warming is the earth gets hotter over time. Just from that, which do you think sounds more reasonable?

It is widely known that. Its also known that water vapor traps multiple times the heat of carbon emissions. Water has been around a lot longer than carbon emissions and i bet there is more water vapor in the air than carbon dioxide. Global Warming is one of the biggest hoaxes people fall for.

Don't get me wrong. I believe in taking care of the environment for the future. I'm all for keeping around those rain forests and all the wonderful things they do, but don't try to guilt me with the planet because i don't believe in your crack pot theory.

I certainly understand and agree. I think we're doing some great things for the environment. However, at the same time I think we're doing a lot of ridiculous shit for the environment.

The difference between water vapour and carbon emissions is that one happens naturally, and one happens (and continues to increase) because of us. I bet you're right that there's more water vapour in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. I bet I'm right though that it would be there regardless of us, and the same can't be said for carbon dioxide.

I never said climate change was bad. Natural climate change is just that, natural. Our planet will heat up and cool down naturally, it has happened for millions of years and will continue to do so. However, we're doing our planet significant damage with the amount of greenhouse gases we're polluting our atmosphere with. This is a fact, whether or not your college lecturer woke up one day and decided he was going to be all controversial and teach the young 'uns that Al Gore and his merry band of media fuckheads are full of shit.

I couldn't agree more that the media "coverage" of global warming is annoying at best. Right now, being "green" is the in thing to do. Everyone's talking about their "carbon footprints", and it's fucking annoying. "Go green" this, "save the world" that, I could live without it all. Like everything, the media exaggerate it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though. While I agree that it's the new Tamagotchi and everyone can't help themselves but talk about it, it's still there.

At the end of the day, I agree with your last statement. I, too, am all for helping the environment, stopping deforestation and "making the air cleaner", but I'm also not getting sucked up in the media frenzy over it. When I get my new car next summer, the LAST thing that'll be on my mind will be it's carbon emissions. That being said, I'm still not having this "global warming is a myth and our planet heating up is nothing to do with us," because despite the fact it means very little to me, anyone who denies it's occurring is talking out of their ass. I understand your sentiments on it being global warming instead of global climate change, though.

Global warming nut jobs have turned scaring the shit out of people into a massive corporate enterprise that earns BILLIONS, with a "B", dollars every year. Think about that the next time you liberal sheep wonder what possible incentive Al Whore and his flunkies would have to lie to everyone about climate change.

Global Warming is real.

The cause, however, is currently open to debate.

Therein lies the problem with the radical "Green" movement. They're not debating. They've declared the gospel, and labeled anyone who casts doubt upon their scripture as a heretic, to be castigated and reviled.

Hence the comment that it's more like a religion than science.

The truth of the matter is that, scientifically speaking, there's not even that much evidence that C02 causes any significant greenhouse effect. It's at the hypothesis level.

The logic currently espoused by those who support the position of CO2 causing significant greenhouse effects is that, in perusing the atmospheric records taken from ice cores and whatnot, it shows that when the temperature is higher, there is more CO2 in the environment.

The fault in this logic is that it assumes causation where there may not be any. Does more CO2 mean warmer weather, or does warmer weather mean more CO2?

I think you misunderstood the time periods when i said fluctuating. I wasn't talking on a day to day or year to year basis I'm talking over the history of the earth. Ice ages and warming periods happen. What makes this beyond the scope of a normal warming period.

What amazes me is the people who are saying we need to curb our CO2 emissions now are the same people who in the 1970s were saying that we needed to curb our CO2 emissions to stop global cooling because CO2 was seen as the cause of the cooling trend from 1945 - 1970 hence the beginning of the end of the muscle car era due to emissions standards. Of course the global cooling problem of the 1970s had the global scientific community consensus much like it does now...

Thinking about it its amazing how things are repeating themselves like in the 1970s... global climate change, over hyped swine flu scare that fizzled the only thing we got left is heavy inflation... the fed is making sure that ones gonna happen with the printers running wide open.

In fact in the 1970s the scientists had this wonderful plan to say fuck the polar bears and melt the polar ice caps on purpose.

Here this pic is from an exhibit from the 1970s which was still in the Smithsonian in late 2009.

Yeah, Y2k real. Sarcasm? Nope, Y2k happened, obviously.

We are currently in a warming trend. It happens. That much is generally agreed upon.

Let's just hope we don't fuck up the atmosphere enough to end up like our sister planet Venus..

I love you for this post.

People are quick to jump to conclusions about blaming humans on all that is wrong in the world. All it is is a trend right now and a Billion dollar industry at this point.
