FUCKING THANK YOU.
THANK YOU. SERIOUSLY.
I'm tired of all this shit that the "Uber Brawl Players" are doing.
"You suck if you use items".
Oh, you mean like how you're lame because you play on
FINAL DESTINATION ALL THE DAMN TIME?!
The only reason why I get my ass kicked by "Final Destination + No Items" people is because I get bored to death. Seriously. It's like going to a Basket Ball court at night for a little one-on-one game of hoops ... And then taking a hacksaw and chopping down the Baskets ... and then intentionally forgetting to bring a Basketball ... Then saying: "Here. Bitchslap each other to death."
I'm not trying to take a pot-shot at Tavjon or Vasage. Vasage and them are my friends.
But I'm saying... Fuck ... Items and Stage Dynamics are what separates the Smash Bros. franchise from other fighting games.
**Obscure Game Reference**
It's a system like this--Where the outcome of a match can be determined by not just the strength and skill of your opponent, but by random items and natural hazards on a stage--that made not only
Smash Bros. popular, but let Capcom's
Power Stone 1 & 2 enjoy a brief period of popularity (Because Capcom has a tendency to come up with a new fighting game, release 1 or 2 sequels, and--if it's not a cross-over franchise like Marvel Vs. Capcom--let it get eclipsed by the latest Street Fighter.
DarkStalkers, Rival Schools, Cyberbots, Plasma Sword/Star Gladiator, Power Stone, etc.).
I mean, shit. Even Ryu's JAPAN stage and Ken Masters & Guile's USA stages had pieces of background scenery you could interact with! Remember how you could break the sign on Ryu's stage? Or break the Steel Drum or Wooden Crate on Ken & Guile's stages? I mean, sure, they didn't hurt you. But comparing to at the time the game was at the height of it's popularity, in contrast to "Final Destination" ... I'll take the Street Fighter II stages. Even though they were flat, at least you could interact with the scenery in some way.
I like how the items and the Assist Trophies bring an element of uniqueness to the fight. Shit, I was happy that Li'l Mac from Mike Tyson's PUNCH-OUT!! (I refuse to call it "Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream".) was included in Brawl. I had a mental meltdown, followed by what I like to call a Nostalgia-gasm in my pants.
Stuff like this prevents matches from being too one-sided. An element of "Randomness" keeps people on their toes.
I like using items. And I'll only turn 'em off every now and again if a friend politely asks me to. It's common courtesy.
But I don't wanna have Items off 24/7 and play flat, dull, boring Final Destination all the time.
The game becomes another standard fighter then. And if that's the case, I might as well hop in my time machine and go back to a 7-11 Store back in 1987 to blow my quarters on "Street Fighter II" all night long.
