Hello,
I'm pretty new to this game, just hit L12 WAR, and I have chosen blacksmith as my sub-job. Can some of you help explain synthesis to me, as in what you need, what it will turn into, what level you need to be to do it, etc. 8)
 
I heard on the radio this morning that Bobnoxious ran his car into a tree. :shock:

Your "sub job" will come at level 18, as you turn in 3 items as part of that quest.

In general, you'll need a crystal to begin synthesis, and you'll need a minimum of one other item to combine with the crystal.

I prefer mystertour for recipe information, but that site's format can take some getting used to.

Nope, Bobnoxious has not done the faceplant into the tree, I am here alive and kicking. I suppose "sub-job" is the wrong term, "craft" is the proper name for it (see, told ya I'm new). I appreciate your input, and look forward to perhaps meeting you in Vana'Diel
 
If you want to start out with a craft, smithing is't the best choice. You need to have other crafts lvled to be able to lvl smithng.

your best bet is to gather some fire crystals, then go buy copper from the goldsmithing guild in Bastok mines. It cost 9-12 gil per peice.

Use the Crystal as an item, that brings up the Synth screen. When that screen comes up, put 4 peices of copper in the slots. If yopu are succesful, you will make a copper ingot.

Make 12 of these then sell em on the AH for around 7000 gil.

Buy a stack of fire crystals. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

This is an excellent source of money for new players.

on a side note, this will lvl your goldsmithing skill, but only to lvl 3 and which point in time you will need to find a different synth to lvl the skill more. But you can always make money like this.

Thanks Trippy! This is great info. I actually stopped in at the goldsmith guild and had the items on me to make 6 flint arrowheads. I have the stuff in my Mog Safe to make an ingot or two, so that will be next!
