No doubt in my mind <bt> all the way ...

Gosh ! I'm the only one voting for <t> right now ...
That was a pretty long reflection for me, and I am not pretty sure about witch the best. I've read many post about this subject and tested both commands ...
My conclusion were :
- If you're not a tank or a puller go with <bt> without hesitation.
- If you're a tank and occasionnaly a puller like me, <t> is better because :
--> it lets you choose the mob you're vocking, usefull when you have to handle links.
--> it train you being calm and accurate when targetting the mobs, witch is usefull too when things goes wrong and have to switch between mobs quickly.
--> it let you "voke pulling" (but never do that if you're not the tank ... pleaaase ;) )

I have never missed a voke since my very first parties ... but It's possible that the best option should be to have two macros ready.

<t> all the way, simply cause I'm always pulling.

I use <bt> for all my spells (Fire, Blizzard, etc) EXCEPT for Sleep or bind. Then I use <t>. Mainly it's because if something links, you need to be quick on it, so you target it and use your macro. You don't want to be sleeping the <bt> when it's a <t> attacking you.

Other than that, <bt> all the way.

I use <t> all the way. Never have had any problems at all.
All my spells, provoke, everything i use is targeted with <t>.
Maybe im not lazy.. i dunno.. I usually just cycle through the mobs with tab, or if its close enough a simple press of F8 will target the closest mob, then im free to provoke using my <t> macros. Works for me, always will.

<stnpc>

It allows me to switch around quickly in battle. Say we got an add, and the second mob is pounding a mage (very common on missions and such, when we're trying to get somewhere and not just pulling to a camp), I don't want to switch target, provoke, switch target again, and go back to what I was doing. With <stnpc> I just hit my macro, select the second mob, hit enter, and go back to what I was doing. So much faster.

I've yet to screw up with <t> or <st>, so I don't see any reason to limit myself to <bt>. If you fumble a lot, though, feel very free to not get the rest of us killed.

I use <t> and i will continue to use <t> im level 49 (grrrr... lemme start AF) and I've only screwed up twice, just twice, i accidently hit alt+G instead of alt+h. not yet has <t> failed me and in fact, its saved me about 18 NMs

<bt> if you are any other role than puller.

Even if you are not the puller you should not depend on <bt>.

From a black mage's point of view:

Learn to use <t> for almost all your macros. However have a macro that target's the puller's mob. Something like

/target <bt>

You can use the above macro on the pull to select the right target.

Then use <t> or <stnpc> for all your other spells/abilities. Why? Because if you get a link, how do you know which target <bt> will select? When it comes BC and other quest fights there is often multiple targets. Even if you did sleep the the link, what will <bt> target?

In short, <bt> is just for lazy people. Just be careful with your targeting.

good point.

I guess from a mages perspective it's a little diferent!

<t> is the target, it will do your commands on anything with your tab-arrow, if it can me (i.e. no casting blizzard on your tank, but you can cast it on that pugil watching the fight but not helping, soon, he will be helping :P)

<bt> is the battle target, i'm not exactly sure on its full works as im a devoted <t> player, but from what it does i think (feel free to correct me if im wrong) that it just automatically targets anything red above their names like this so you dont screw up and give the pugil who is cheering you on the birdie (i.e. blizzard) and something tells me.... it isnt gonna be cheering you on for long,

point of the story: dont give giant sharks that can move on land the birdie

a neat trick is to put /target <bt> on the first line of a dia or bio spell (or any other spell you always cast first). while you are sitting, you can hit the macro and it'll target the mob, then when you stand up, hit it again to cast the spell. then let all your other spells use <t>. <bt> will kill your party if you are fighting multiple mobs... never use it!!!

I am pretty iffy about my macro sets so i have multiple sets for different situtations and yes its chore to change them all when u switch jobs but as a war or any form of tank i always have my targeting macro like yanz said.

/target <bt>
/echo Current Target : <t>
/attack <t>

noob question what does /echo do?

/echo - If say for example set up a macro for boost and you want to do it every 15 seconds (I may be wrong on the time of that) And you want your macro to tell you to "Boost Again" after 15 seconds, you can set it as an echo. This way nobody but you will see the text "Boost Again." Your party won't see it, so it's better and doesn't clutter the screen with reminders that you need for your other members of your pt.

so a macro would look like this

/ja "Boost" <me>
/wait 15
/echo Boost Again

Great for reminders =)

hmmm sounds good for refresh thank you ^^

both r good

both of them r good <bt> is for battle target and <t> is just for the target u have, the only macro i have that uses <bt> is my lazy macro

/attack <bt>

well i would rather use that then haveing to hit F8 or hitting the "0" key over and over again then attacking the wrong enemy haveing that link and the pt lol

all my other macros use <t> cuz it attacks what i have targeted so i dont end up attacking the enemy someone else has targeted in pt which i dont see y that would be a problem but atm i am just useing "Ctrl + J" so i get a list of my job abalitys and there count downs hehehe

please forgive the misspelled words if there r any
