Howdy.

I'm having a little trouble running this on Vista, and I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I originally had the game running fine on XP, but a couple of problems resulted in me ending up dual-booting Ubuntu + Vista. Everything installs fine, but it's a problem with the graphics that's currently urking me.. I've no idea.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for my card, as well as the game itself. I've had a look for a solution online, but I've came back empty. I've tried fiddling with all the settings in the config menu, as well as in my card's settings menu. All my drivers are up to date, and I have the latest version of DirectX, if that helps any.

My specs are:
Intel Pentium Dual CPU @ 1.60Ghz
2GB RAM
Intel GMA X3100 358MB

Here's some screenshots. Notice how the backgrounds are fine, but it's the character models that are messed up?

Anyone have any idea on what's wrong and how I could fix this? I'd happily downgrade back to XP, but given that I'm using my laptop a lot for studies, if I can avoid it for now it'd be great.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Did you run a check files? Your dats may be f'd up, and while that might not fix it, it's always a good first shot.

+6 cool points for Ubuntu though. GNOME/KDE/Xfce/Flux/E17/? :D

How do I check files? :/

And I'm using KDE. Prefer it over GNOME, which is the only other flavour I've tried.

It should be at the PlayOnline login screen, a button that says "check files".

I'm a GNOME/Xfce guy myself. Tried KDE, and I can only handle so much eye-candy with compiz-fusion as it is. To each his;/her own though :)

I know this wont help you, but it looks cool XD.

I am on Vista as well and I dont have any problems.

No idea about your problem, but Sirbiznatch? lol

Thats strange man lol. But is that a Core 2 duo? Because if it isnt, and with that video card (integrated w/e) , your requirements are seriously lacking to run Vista+ FFXI. Intel chips/integrated onboard graphics are usually terrible and have problems running even older games.

For instance, my girlfriends dad got a PC that has a Dual Core AMD 5000+ with 2 gb of ram. It came with an onboard Graphics. I tried to to install the first Halo on it, and all the characters looked like blocks and it ran at like 5 FPS with the lowest settings.

Yeah, it's not a Core 2 Duo. I bought my laptop mainly for studies. I've a desktop for PC gaming. It was just an added bonus when I found my older games like XI, Jedi Academy and Halo ran fine on it.

I guess it might be worth my while to downgrade back to XP. :/

so wow I was gonna say file check also.. but I guess that's not the problem XD I run XI on vista with minimal problems aside from a touch of lag here and there.

But wow at that last Screen Shot lol its like, Carbuncle had an atomic fart!

I run Vista on my laptop and don't have that problem at all. Then again I run a Geforce not an Intel brand. My processor isnt great, it's a 1.5 but a Core 2 Duo and it runs ok.

Try reinstalling/updating your video driver. If that doesn't work try reinstalling FFXI (yeah i know..). If that doesn't work well.. dang

Got it working. Rolled back my video card drivers. :D

Thanks for the help!
